Dueling Analogs Presents: Mega Man 10 – Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy
A few days ago, in the post “IGN Goes Hands-On with Mega Man 10, and Capcom Finally Addresses Multiplayer,” I said:
I think it’s safe to assume there are people who do indeed love the spirit of Mega Man, but have been put off by some of its more precise demands; hopefully Easy Mode will make everyone happy.
Then again, there are those who were offended by the mere existence of the Super Guide in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, so the same existence of this will likely get some in a tizzy.
And, as if on cue, Steve Napierski of the webcomic Dueling Analogs put together the following video in lieu of today’s comic strip to express his feelings on the inclusion:
To the notion of using this optional mode to attract more people to the brand, he says “So what!? Look, the people that would have wanted to play this twenty-three year old franchise would have played it by now and those who you might attract play this installment will probably be turned away from the lack of dumbed down levels and mentally challenges enemies in the previous incarnations. Also, the inclusion of an Easy Mode might also tempt those who would be willing to overcome the challenge of the game to be swayed to a much more wussified experience.”
In all, he feels that any of the other various Mega Man incarnations (except X) should be where such comforts reside– and in the case of some, such as Zero and ZX, they already do.

hahaha… that was really funny…wow that was really easy…
…so he wants the Classic series to remain true to the purists yet doesn’t want 8-bit graphics? Make up your **** mind, kiddo. That NES-style look represents the franchise when it actually commanded some respect outside of those of us that stuck with the series when the quality began to nosedive.
Ahahaha, that was awesome XD
Why would people complain about it having an Easy mode anyway? Look here: Press START on the Normal mode. There you go, problem fixed.
@Playwithsquirrels: I think you missed the boat on the sarcasm in that statement.
I approve of difficulty levels, you can often hone your play without as much frustration…then step up.
I’m talking MM2 styled easy mode…everything’s the same, just lower damage and hit points. You still get challenges from everything else, like spikes and bottomless pits.
Heck, sometimes I play the easy modes on Anniversary Collection because it’s faster and less monotonous to kill bosses that way. It’s the same levels, so it’s fun… but quicker to kill bosses.
I’m not sure on this easy mode.
“I’m talking MM2 styled easy mode…everything’s the same, just lower damage and hit points. You still get challenges from everything else, like spikes and bottomless pits.”
Still, this is probably one of the most daunting aspects for people who WOULD play on an easy mode. You live when you get hit by an enemy, but I’ve seen a lot of none-MegaMan players get too nervous to continue when a jump and some spikes are up ahead.
I honestly don’t mind easy mode, cuz as has been pointed out for this game and NSMBWii, you don’t have to take the easy route. Normal mode is always there.
God this guy’s an idiot. He’s biased towards the X Series, but the rest of the others aren’t hard enough? I remember in the Zero series that you have to earn Easy mode after beating Normal (And Hard in Zero 1)… Legends Series also has the same difficulty and requirements to earn Easy. He’s just a butthurt sad excuse of a video gamer because Capcom’s trying to show the new age of gamers how Rockman was and how hard it can be with a new twist in story, appearance, and style while still retaining its 8-bit glory for the old folks who kept playing Airman’s Stage over9000 times just to get to the freaking halfway point!
tl;dr: Dueling Analog is a crappy web comic artist and an even crappier judge of how the classic series in Rockman works.
To say that an easy mode would “tempt” normally challenge-ready people to wuss out is a pretty silly argument.
Since when is it anybody’s business to maintain the honor and dignity of anonymous video game nerds? What in the world does it matter if a capable gamer doesn’t rise to his full potential?
It’s a game. At face value, a glorified interactive toy.
Christ. I mean, sure, I love the challenge, because like most MM fans I picked up the game when I was like 7 and was thus raised not to be afraid of failing some nine thousand times because I knew each time I got a little better, but that’s not normal. We love MM, because, let’s face it, we’re freaks.
Meanwhile, each time I pass the controller to a friend, they put up a hard, honest fight, but after the tenth cheap death they, like any normal person, give up. They don’t get better, because they don’t try again. Who could ask them to? My girlfriend in particular has a habit of turning off the system (*twitch*), storming off, and being mad at me for the rest of the day, because, God bless her, she tries her hardest but just can’t stand to lose so many times in rapid succession.
Easy mode isn’t some insult to our honor as gamers- it’s a gift to all of our girlfriends, siblings, friends, etc. that allow them to partake in the same game we so enjoy without having to fall to the same level of obsession.
Why should anyone complain about that?

That video was hilarious. Best way I’ve spent 42 seconds in a while.
@FetusZero If I recall, the ZX series had the whole ” play normal to unlock hard” sequence, which is kind of an insult to some who play any Megaman game for a challenge.
And it’s not just for the Megaman series. In the new generation of gaming, a roughly estimated 60% of games also use this same function. Why can’t we just play our hard mode off the bat, instead of doing something slightly easier, just to memorize the whole entire game by the time the mode you actually want to play rolls around. It’s kind of a buzzkill for me, but then again, it’s different for everyone else.
@ Playswithsquirrels
That bit about the graphics was a (obvious) joke.
