Nintendo Channel’s Operate Shooting Star trailer
Posted on November 11th, 2009 by Heat Man
Here’s the trailer for Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star that’s appeared on Japan’s Minna no Nintendo Channel. It’s some new footage mixed with old. Furthermore, if the trailer is to be viewed as the final product, this close to the game’s release (it practically is out now), it seems they kept the majority of the game’s music sounding similar to the GBA version of the game. Rather unfortunate.

Only the shooting star rockman part seems interesting to me. And the Forte part, ever so slightly. (I actually spent some annoying time trying to get all those 174 battle chips, to get to Forte)
I played the original quite a lot, and I don’t intend to play it again if nothing of great importance has changed. I hope CoA will not localize this as badly as EXE5DS, since the annoying voices ruined it for me.
So basically, my Japanese isn’t good enough to import, and the English voices will ruin the game for me.
Nice going there Capcom.
I’m alittle dissapointed but megaman 9 didn’t have remix music the game was ment for classic megaman fans and the majority of original megaman games were 8 bit and most BN games are 16 bit I think OSS will be like a megaman 9 for use EXE fans
Not buying this worthless excuse for a game. I probably would’ve been fine with it if it at least remixed the music, but just simply porting the music as well is inexcusable. This is probably one of Capcom’s laziest games since Battle Chip Challenge.
*adding on to what I posted before*
The only thing that I might look forward to somewhat is the Clock Man thing and maybe playing as the obviously broken SF Mega Man.
If you hear carefully, you can hear the game’s music is not a port of the original game. It is almost the same, but it is NOT the BN1 GBA music!
I know it’s a jerk thing to say, but I wonder how much time it took them to make these trailers, as opposed to making the game…
I’d hate to be the person to say this, but you guys aren’t exactly tolerant of such small little gimmicks?
I see it like this.

There’s pretty much no pleasing you people- just sit down and enjoy the dang game for what it is. If you’re all going to be nitpicky tword every last dang detail, go work for Capcom and make your own dream game.
Go ahead, flame me, bash me, do whatever you want, but I believe I’ve made a valid point.
Oh, and my final note.
Way to start complaining about it one day before the release.
I’ll laugh histericly if they did all that to throw us off of the real deal. (this is so not likely)
So Sammy, if I understand you correctly, customers of games shouldn’t be discerning and gleefully eat up whatever a developer comes out with. I’ll certainly admit that a lot of developers would love an arrangement like that. Though I think you may be overreacting. A person can enjoy a game and still criticize it, and vice versa. There’s nothing wrong with that.
Well, I was looking at NovaMan and Lumis comments, in particular. However, because I like to roam the net, I’ve seen this case plenty of times. “Not buying because it looks like it sucks/Capcom screws up again” to be the short version.
I’m not saying they don’t have the right to critisize, but I believe a lot of people take it over the top this way. They haven’t even given it a chance, yet.
I know the kind of phenomenon you speak of, but OSS is kind of a different case. In fact you could perhaps say people did give this game a chance, when it was called MegaMan Battle Network. From what I understand about the game so far, it has almost no new content, and new content is the primary reason people want games. I plan to write on this issue once I can play OSS and see if for certain it’s a content rehash.
I think it is wrong to criticize a game completely even before its release. Although Heat Man’s point is very on target on how people should be able to have opinions about a game, I think it’s completely wrong for gamers to hate the game and STILL play it. If you hate it, and complain more as you play it, it basically ends that you are just spamming on how you’re hating the game.
And why are people hating on EXE1? I’ve never played it, but I’m loving the continuing on the EXE series <3!
But doesn’t this have a different plot? I’m pretty sure that ClockMan and the addition of Shooting Star MegaMan make it different from the original Battle Network. Plus, it’s called Operate Shooting Star; I’d call that some fairly new content, what with the additions they added.
At least you’re going to try it hands on.
They also kept all the enemy HP values shifted over to the left! I want to know why!
I agree on the fact that the game should have had more. Remixed music and maybe having the main storyline a little different and not 100% equal like BN5: DTDS.
I’ll probably end up getting the game when it releases in the states, too bad it’ll probably release around summertime 2010.
@Sammy:
I think you have it all wrong. Fans are suckers for nostalgia, but they’re not idiots. If Capcom released this as it is now, but for a substantially discounted price then I’m sure plenty of people would at least give it a try. Especially hardcore fans. (Could DSiWare support a game this size?)
But when Capcom thinks it’s fit to repackage an old GBA game with dated graphics, sound, and mechanics and then release it with next to nothing at all changed, AND charge $50 for the thing? Seriously? I could go buy Battle Network 1 used at EB for under $10, stick it in my DS and have pretty much the same experience without feeling like I was cheated. I can read-up on the minor story changes online and I’m set.
Is it wrong to expect quality for my money?
-Age
I am a semi-hardcore mega man collector, so of course I will be buying this game.
Besides, the save on my GBA MMBN Cart won’t work anymore. :/
you know… I’m getting to the point where I’m starting to doubt they’ll even bother releasing this in other regions besides japan =P
@ EVERYBODY
ENOUGH!!! Everybody just calm down for a minute………
First of all, Sammy, generally I agree with what you are saying. You people here are being very difficult. I can understand having certain expectations from a game and curiosity and anxiety can get the better of you easily. But you are being very nitpicky and condescending towards this game when it hasn’t even been released here yet and you haven’t even tried it yet! If you are iffy on how the game looks and don’t want to spend the steep price tag, then simply RENT the game first to try it out or borrow a friend’s copy!
Second….what do you guys mean no new content, the first half of that video looked like a re-hash but the second half looked completely new, and very fun and compelling looking (no re-mixed music, yeah that sucks but that alone does NOT make or break a game). That mini-game at the end looks WAY too fun for words and that Program Advance that looks like Double Hero only with both Rockmans with Omega-Xis flitting about slashing looks REALLY COOL!!! Plus there are many updates to this game that I really wanna try out. Such as a detailed map! Remember how frustrated we all got when we got lost so easily in BN1? Well I always wanted to try the game with a detailed map and now we have one….very sweet. The new enemy characters like Clockman also look very awesome and I’m itching at the chance to play against them. Plus it could have many other new features that we haven’t been shown yet.
In the end what I’m trying to say is that while I can understand people wanting a little “bang for their buck” or “quality for their money?” (As Ageman has told us), we should be cautious not to trample all over what could be a perfectly good game before we even get it! I’m sorry but it just comes off as being snobbish and rude. In the old days we never analyzed a game head to toe picking at every tiny little thing we didn’t like about it…we knew it was a Mega Man game so we played it. If we didn’t like it then we cast it aside…but I have yet to find a Mega Man game to date that I didn’t like to a certain degree.
I apologize if I sound a little angry or harsh in this statement. But I am a very big Mega Man fan (as are you all here), so it pains me to see a Mega Man game get spat on by the fans that are supposed to love them before they’ve even played it!
Everyone complaining about the price: you do know it’s retailing for about 1000 yen (~10 dollars) less than normal, right?
Though I have to admit the game isn’t really impressing me. Suppose we’ll see soon enough.
I’d have to agree with Chris here. I mean the games not even out yet. Yeah, it may very well be just a re-hash. But, then again it may not. I won’t deny that I’d like a new storyline and some new stuff, instead of a re-make of something long ago, but really, let the game come out first. THEN you can bash it. It usually these things that set us up to be dissappointed when a new game comes out. Then you miss the fact that they may have done a really good job of porting it to the DS and keeping something that everyone loved in the beginning, still with us to still enjoy. (Instead of searching around for a half-broken GBA cartrige…where is that anyways…)
All in all, I’m getting it. If only just for some nice time to jump back to EXE and have some fun. And who knows? They may have really changed the story-line and stuff and have been hiding it..? Just guessing. ^_^
Amonge all this, I just can’t wait until the rom gets onto my favorite rom-site.
Doesn’t really matter to me now anyway. I’d rather end it here. When it comes to the fanbase, they’re all one homogenus being- composed of many people with many different opinions. By arguing, we’re both agreeing to that same statement.
So, enjoy what you want, hate what you want. Don’t like it? Don’t buy it.
Yes, I know I’m clearly contradicting my past statements, but my only goal was to bring across a point. Mission neither accomplished, nor failed.
No, no Sammy you’re absolutely right, trying to drill it into these people any more is a moot and futile point and I’ve said what I wanted to say. I AM buying this game when it comes out, re-hash or not. End of story.
Just for the record, the music, while not necessarily remixed, is most certainly remastered. It sounds cleaner and not as chiptuned.
Geez, Just try the game out first, then make complaints after you find out whether it’s a complete rehash or not.
I dont care what anyone sez!! Iam a proud Megaman fan and i will support capcom in their crusade for the ultimate game!!
These arguments sound really bizarre to me. I assume those who complain about this game are people who have already played BN1? That’s because I havent played the first 2 so this is literally a new game to me and I am looking forward to it. If u hate this game so much because most of the content “appears” to be the same including the music, well maybe its for gamers like me who missed out the classic BN1 on the GBA. Nobody says that u must get the game even if U have already known the BN1 storyline or that the music sounds the same.
Oh btw, I think that even if one has already played the original BN1 on the GBA, theres nothing wrong with getting OSS for the SF addition and that minigame.
Overall, this game is a real treat for me because I have not played BN1 and Im also an SF fan.
@AdventZ:
Yes, I agree that if I were in your shoes, I’d be happy too. I never owned the original Yoshi’s Island on SNES, so when it got ported to GBA, I was more than happy to buy it. In that sense, the game as a re-release is fine.
What’s so aggravating to those who HAVE already played MMBN1 though is that this game is not EXACTLY the same ported over. It has has bonus features which entice any MegaMan fan, like the Starforce crossover and the minigame, and yet the rest of the game is largely the same. Thus, there’s plenty of us WANTING to buy it, but it feels like such a rip off rebuying something so unchanged. If there were one or two more things, like WIFI online battling or a remixed soundtrack, features any modern DS game can support, it would be a lot easier to swallow. At the moment, it just seems like good potential gone down the drain.
As for not playing it yet, I am definitely hoping in anticipation the game has some trick up its sleeve that will floor me. I would be so happy to be proven wrong. Here’s hoping we found out soon sometime in this week.
I agree with not judging a game before it’s out, but this one seems like a real disappointment. We’ll just have to wait on that.
Yha, the music’s not changed. Its not like they wouldn’t hide that fact from us so that when we do play it, we get a feast and a surprise for the ears and all.
@Pieman.EXE: Gee, you’re talking as though there’s a DS emulator that works. We all know that’s not the case.
As for this game, I’ll end up buying it eventually, if for nothing else, then for the sake of collection. But I will give it a play-through. No sense in buying a game and not playing it.
@Seraph Man: Gee, you’re talking as though that’s the only way to play a DS rom
@Blue Bombers cousin
YOU GO MAN…I’m right behind ya. Definetley getting this game and I can’t wait to play it!
I haven’t paid very much attention to this game, but all of this dicussion is making me curious. Now I can’t wait for it to come out. I really want to find out if there are any major story changes. Even if it’s just Geo and Lan teaming up to take down world 3, I’d still be interested.
What sets this game apart from the other games in this series to justify this release? Does capcom want to make a quick buck? Or do they want us to indulge in an engaging expeience? How can you accomplish the latter if the only thing you’ve done to the game was reiterate its core mechanics which are almost a decade old? Should I hold megaman to a higher standard for each successive game, or accept the fact that the series has gone nowhere and won’t progress anytime soon.
The funny thing is, any “upgrades” to the battle system in this are nothing at affects gameplay much other than * codes and the lack of the 2nd ADD.
Been playing through this, been trying to like it, but it’s the same game I played 8 years ago, except the music sounds duller. Apparently the SF Crossover part isn’t for a while into the game, so basically this is just BN1 DS with a SF extra scenario.
To be honest, even though I like BN1 more than BN5, BN5 DS did a much better job than this. :[
It’s unfortunate, I expected a lot of great things from this when this was first announced, pretty disappointed.
I guess… if you never played BN1 and can’t find the original GBA version, you could get this. Otherwise just stick with your GBA BN1.
@Everybody
Try not to pay too much attention to what Stev3child and NovaManXP are saying. Granted I will give NovaManXP a hand in that he actually TRIED the game so now if he doesn’t like it at least he is justified in not liking it. But guys if you don’t like the game, then fine, but don’t be bringing everyone else down who are looking forward to it. You may think you’re doing us all a favour by trying to save us money or something, but you’re not. You’re just stomping all over a game before its even been released here yet, and as a hard core Mega Man fan, I really can’t stand to see it happen. You’ve already made it clear that you don’t like the game, so that’s enough. Let the rest of us just try it and see for ourselves.
I was merely challenging people to describe what’s new about the game. I dont have access to the game or its contents. Im not trying to be rude or bash the game. As a hardcore megaman fan, I feel that it is my prerogative to voice my concern for the vitality of the series. Since I believe to a certain degree, that the fanbase has influence over the developement of this series, it would only be helpful to pose valid critisisms on each game in the hopes that problms aren’t repeated and awareness of the problems can spread, giving more incentive for Capcom to do a better job and expand on the ideas for the series which will ultimately prevent deterioration of the series. And if there’s anything you disagree with, feel free to adress specific points in my post so further discussion can take place. =)
@Stev3child
Like I said before, I have no problem with you or anyone else feeling a certain way about a game. That’s your right to voice your opinion and I have all the respect for that. However this game has so far earned a lot of flack and until a person has actually sat down and tried it for themselves then they can’t really say much beyond “I think it looks good for ____ reasons” or “I think it looks bad for ____ reason”. But this poor game has been torn to pieces already and most of those doing it haven’t even played it yet! If you have problems or concerns with the game then that’s cool and I think you should bring them up. But bring them up with Capcom instead of repeating the same hate for it that others have already done here. I seriously doubt that the game developers regularly check these sites to hear opinions on the games they make. This is a site for Mega Man fans and again while I think its cool for everyone to have their own say in something, it gets a tad disheartening when all anyone has to say is “Boo, this game is a wast of time…yadda yadda”. I have nothing against you or anyone else here personally (on the contrary in fact, I’m always eager to meet and share information with other Mega Man fans…..make friends not enemies I always say), but your concerns or problems with this game should definetley be brought before Capcom rather than ranting on a forum or website.
I agree that dismissal with prejudice of the game is pointless especially if you dont have the game to actually make a fair assessment. But dont confuse me wiht those people. I just wanted some answers as to the contents of the game, and then went on to ask questions regarding the progress of the series depending on those answers. And I feel the best place to discuss those things are in fact, in an enviornment that centers around the game and its fandom. I feel I have done nothing to discourage people from getting this game. In the very essence, I only ask for honest feedback about the game and its specifics. That’s really all there is =).
@Stev3child
It’s all cool, all cool, I just get a little hotheaded over things like this. I’m a very big Mega Man fan (have been my whole life) and it really bugs me to see people dumping on a Mega Man game (as you have said, not that you nessecarily are) for no reason as some people have been recently. I also agree that these forums are the ideal place for discussion but only as long as that discussion/criticism is constructive in nature. If that is how you feel about it as well, then I really have no beef or problem with you and would like to apologize if I came off as a bit harsh.
No problem. And if I come off as bashful towards the game, I really dont mean for my words to be interpreted in that way XD. Anyhoot I hope this game comes out in America preferably at the tip of spring as the battle netowrk games did.(would be fitting too, this being a bn game of course)
Yeah me too, getting very anxious for it.
So I finally finished this game.
Does anyone need to know what’s new?
A new boring fetch quest (the SF crossover part) that lasts 30 minutes, with a new boss who’s not even that hard.
The ability to play as Geo Stelar, who has superior to Mega Man.EXE in terms of abilities, which just makes the game even easier IF you decide to use him (I didn’t until after I beat the game).
4 new Battle Chips (according to the Library at least)
* Coded chips.
And some other minor tweaks here and there not worth mentioning such as Elec Man’s stage, and an addition of a sound effect for turning the valves in Ice Man’s stage…
Now about the music… Capcom obviously went lazy on us here. If they were aiming for the nostalgic effect, you think they would’ve done the same for the SF music and made it GBA sounding, right? They didn’t, they just ported music over in this game lazily, and the only new theme is the remixed title theme, which is an awesome remix, so it’s pretty disappointing Capcom didn’t take advantage of the DS’ sound chip.
Now I know I probably pissed off some of you, and I’m sorry for bashing this horribly, it’s not a bad game, but it’s just I’ve played this 8 years ago, and it’s hardly any different now than it was 8 years ago.
TL;DR version: I’m disappointed, the game isn’t necessarily bad by any means, but it’s essentially the same game again.
Unless they actually plan on remixing the music in the next one and actually adding a lot of more content, I don’t want to see them make an OSS2. >_>
