Capcom Unity MM10 Art Contest: The Secret Meaning of Duo
March 16, 2010 by LBD "Nytetrayn"
Filed under Community Developments, Mega Man News

Last week, we posted this little blurb about the judging of Capcom’s Solar Man fan art competition, the results of which can be found here. And at the time, this week’s contest had but a single hint: a picture of Duo, which led to some fun speculation.
But as it turns out, I was wrong. You were wrong. Everybody was wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.
Over Capcom Unity way, JGonzo has revealed that this week’s contest does indeed focus on duos, perhaps even duos who are dynamic, but not duos who are Mega Man and Proto Man– that is, unless you wish for them to be. Rather, the duos in question are comprised of you, the artist, alongside another artist with whom you will randomly be paired.
And the subject? Anything you want it to be– provided it relates to Mega Man 10, of course.
With the nature of this particular contest, pairs of artists will find themselves with not one, but two weeks to get things done. As if that weren’t fitting enough, the winners will be decided by members from perhaps not one, but two Capcoms (USA and Japan), and they will receive a pair of Mega Man and Proto Man Kubrick/Be@rbrick packages. Mind, it isn’t specified whether that means each participant on the winning team receives one of each, or if they’ll have to fight over who takes home Proto Man.
You’ll have until 12pm PDT on Tuesday, March 16th to declare your interest by sending JGonzo a personal message on the Unity boards. You can find further clarification of the rules and procedures regarding partnerships here.
Finally, this contest is considered “just for fun,” and isn’t a part of the regularly ongoing series of contests we’ve been witness to thus far; the final round of those will begin next week as scheduled.
To those who participate, good luck!
Solar Man’s Art Contest Judging Yields a Most Curious Clue
March 12, 2010 by LBD "Nytetrayn"
If you’ve been following the Mega Man 10 art contests at the Capcom Unity, then you know that they have nearly reached the end of the road with the judging for Solar Man, which runs through the weekend, if I’m not mistaken.
But just because they’ve run out of Robot Masters for fans to render doesn’t mean the fun and games are over yet; next week is their mysterious “??? Event,” for which JGonzo says there is “no clue for you” before relenting and offering “a tiny hint.”
Prior to the announcement of Bass as the “downloadable” (yeah, yeah, I know) third character, fans had considered this heroic hulk as another possible contender for playability, particularly in light of the game’s Japanese subtitle, “Threat from Outer Space!!” That just leaves us with the question of whether this is simply a fun opportunity for fans to cut loose, or if perhaps there is more to come in Mega Man 10 than we were led to believe.
At Long Last: The Conclusion of the “What am I Fighting For?!” Contest

It has been a long, bumpy road since first announcing The Mega Man Network’s “What am I Fighting For?!” Contest, but finally, all the pieces are in place and we can bring this thing to an end.
When Jaxel first told me about the acquisition he had made for us to use as a prize in a contest of some sort, a picture of Zero autographed by Lucas Gilbertson (who portrayed the Wily’s crimson creation in Mega Man X8, Command Mission, and Maverick Hunter X), I knew I wanted to do something special, something different. We had done trivia contests before, and I thought perhaps fanart, which had also been done before, would be too limiting.
So in the spirit of Mr. Gilbertson’s remake of Zero’s most (in)famous scene (and arguably the franchise), we decided to take advantage of this new “YouTube” thing, which all sorts of people have made really fantastic creations with. Alternatively, we were also willing to accept non-YouTube videos or even simple sound recordings.
And in the end, when the submissions were counted, there were seven, and they are as follows (note to the entrants: contact me if you want your name changed):
JuVeNiLeJRoCKeR:
br>
The Link:
br>
Rockman 2900:
br>
lucariotrainer16:
br>
RockEsper:
br>
CLShadow5114:
br>
And finally, the winner, as chosen by a panel of judges from The Mega Man Network’s staff, SuperWittyName’s “Astronomic Gentlemen X Four Cinematic:”
br>
I should add that these are not the seven finalists, but that there were seven submissions, total. Admittedly, it was a little disheartening. Nonetheless, lesson learned (hence the more traditional contest for Mega Man 10).
With that being the case, I’m sure there are any number of you wondering what the hell took so long. Besides dealing with numerous… personal circumstances, let’s say, I made it my mission to procure a small prize for each contestant who did not win the big prize– runners-up, shall we say.
So while SuperWittyName will get to take home the grand prize Zero/Gilbertson autograph, each of the other entrants will receive one Mega Man E-Tank Energy Drink as a way of saying “thanks for taking the time to enter; we really appreciate it.” Thanks go out to our staff member MainFinger for obtaining some of the cans, while JGonzo from the Capcom Unity generously donated the remainder. We will have those prizes sent out shortly.
Thanks once again to everyone who participated, and congratulations to SuperWittyName. This was a fun little experiment, and perhaps we’ll try something new again sometime. And once more, I apologize for the lengthy delay in announcing the winners, and hope you understand.
Mob Robos Revealed: Get Your Magnifying Glasses Ready

You may remember, some months ago, Hitoshi Ariga held a “Mob Robo” contest for his upcoming comic Rockman Gigamix Vol. 2. Basically, Ariga accepted entries for throwaway characters created by fans, who would appear briefly in the comic and then get destroyed. Truth be told I kind of forgot about the contest, even after Gigamix 2 released in Japan a couple weeks ago. I was only reminded when my close friend AWD! giddily harassed me with the knowledge that one of his characters, Volt Man, got featured in the comic (pictured above).
Seeing the pages for myself, it appears Ariga did what he could to cram as many entries as possible into the pages. There are quite a few, and I’ve already found characters created by a couple other friends of mine. So if you entered a design, there may be good odds yours made it too. And that’s what I’m here to let you check. Below are the pages that contain all the Mob Robo ideas Ariga accepted. Be warned that they open up to HUGE images. Then you just need to get to browsing, and hopefully you’ll see your character!
Additionally, some original entries were also printed inside the book’s back cover, so I’ll share that as well.
Now the next thing you need to do is beg Capcom and UDON to get Rockman Gigamix published here in North America!
Many thanks to AWD!
Capcom of Japan Begins Rockman 10 Package Design Contest
March 4, 2010 by Heat Man
Mega Man 10 may very well be the most “contested” Mega Man game ever. Capcom of Japan has just announced their own Rockman 10 contest: create a package design for Rockman 10, provided it actually came in a box. I’d always wondered why Capcom of Japan wasn’t revealing their own package art for the game (as they did with Rockman 9), and it seems this is the reason.
Designs can be made in either in landscape “Rockman” format, or portrait “Mega Man” format. Images must be 300dpi, stay within 2MB and be saved in JPG, GIF or PNG format. The contest page gives specific layout details for the required image dimensions, including the border area. Submissions will be sent to Capcom via e-mail with the title ロックマン10のパッケージイラストを描いてみた コンテスト (Rockman 10 package illustration contest).
What will become of the design chosen as the winner? Well, it will be used to make an actual package, albeit for what purpose I’m not entirely sure.
There are some additional things to note. All entries will be uploaded to Niconico Seiga, and become materials on Niconi Commons. Furthermore, entries will become property of Capcom of Japan. Because of this, you may not submit an illustration that has already been submitted to another contest. Only the creator of the illustration may enter on his or her own behalf. Do not enter multiple works at the same time. Finally, if you are younger than 16 you need your parents’ permission to enter.
While this may seem like a Japan only thing, a blog post on the Rockman 10 homepage by assistant producer Akiko Ito states she wants to see many entries from not just Japan, but from abroad as well, making it both a Rockman and Mega Man contest. I’d presume then that official guidelines will be presented on our side soon.
Well, better get drawing!
Edit: Actually, the English instructions appear to be right here!
Edit 2: Capcom Unity is pitching in to help out as well. Find out how by clicking here.

If you happen to live in New York City, you’ll want to head to Nintendo World this Sunday, the 7th. According to Capcom*Unity, starting at 11 AM they will be giving away Mega Man 10 shirts and posters, while supplies last, with the purchase of a 2,000 point Wii Point card. Capcom*Unity also invites you to take pictures there and then submit them via private message on the Unity boards. A selected image will nab the sender a mysterious Mega Man gift. Sounds intriguing! Be sure to check out the link above for all the details.
Cut to the Chase with your Blade Man Fan Art Votes

Looks like we forgot about poor li’l Nitro Man last week. But time passes on and wounds heal. Then again, this next guy looks like he wants to cause a lot of wounds. This week’s Mega Man 10 fan art subject over at Capcom*Unity is Blade Man. Seems Mega Man fans must really be into knives or something, because Blade Man has the most entries submitted yet! So many that the submission gallery had to be split into two, which you can see here and here. After you’ve perused all the lovely artwork, you can go vote with your dollars votes.
There is also a hint for next week’s Robot Master. But hopefully, with Mega Man 10 coming out tomorrow, you won’t be too full!
Mega Man 10 Contest Results Are In

Our amazing Mega Man 10 contest has come to a close. I was very astounded by the results – we got roughly 280 entries for this contest! That’s over three times greater than the response to our Mega Man 9 contest. That also means your odds of being selected were about one in twenty-eight. Hey, that’s a lot better than the state lottery!
At any rate, the ten winning entrants were randomly selected and graded early Thursday morning. Having gotten in touch with them all, I am now happy to congratulate our Mega Man 10 Contest winners!
Matt Zacharias
Pierre Redmon
Adam Reid
Ryan Rousseau
Daniel Wilson
David Singleton
The Macks
Ivan Esteban
Elec Man EXE
Adam Bell
To everyone else, I thank you deeply for participating. The results were certainly overwhelming, and after the judging I couldn’t help but feel a little sad that we couldn’t give away more. However, I’m certain we will have more contests in the future, and I hope you participate in those as well!
To our ten winners, we’ve still yet to judge the results to award the bonus prize. This should happen soon, and we’ll keep you posted. I’ve already got the Mega Man 10 poster in, and man is it ridiculously awesome! Be sure to have some good wall space for this one!
Finally, we have posted the quiz answers on the contest details page. You can now check how many of your answers were correct.
Many thanks again to every one who entered!

This is your last reminder, folks. The Mega Man 10 Contest ends tonight at midnight, PST! If you’ve been dawdling on the quiz, hurry up and get your entry in! Tomorrow we will accept no more!
Furthermore, I am also revealing the bonus prize. This will be awarded to one of the ten winners whose response to the final question we like best. And the prize is…
A sick 24 x 30 Mega Man 10 poster, and a copy of Mega Man Megamix Vol. 1 from UDON! After the judging, these will likely be sent out next week to the winner.
Good luck to you all!
Mega Man 10 Contest Reminder and Notes

The opportunity to win Mega Man 10 in our contest is coming to an end this Wednesday at midnight. That means you only have three days left to enter! The response so far has been amazing: in the first two days of the contest we’d already received more entries than our Mega Man 9 contest got in its entire run. You guys must really want Mega Man 10!
I’ve been hearing some questions about how the contest will be judged, and when the winners will be announced. Also, some people have sent in entries without including their system info. I’m here to cover these concerns and more.
Judging and announcement: The contest ends Wednesday at midnight, PST. Quiz grading will then take place the following Thursday morning or early afternoon. The winners will be notified via e-mail that they’ve won that day. Then, the winners will be announced on the site with the final results and quiz answers probably by Sunday.
Forgotten system info: If you forgot to include what system you want Mega Man 10 for with your entry, have no concern. If you win and didn’t include your system info, we will of course ask for said information when we notify you that you’ve won. Besides that, if you’re a Wii owner you’ll have to get our system info (and determine whether you live in the US or Canada). Please be attentive to the outcome if you want Mega Man 10 on the Wii, because it’s coming very soon!
Release dates: Remember that Mega Man 10 is hitting the respective consoles at different dates: March 1st for the Wii, March 11th for the PS3 and March 31st for the 360. If you requested Mega Man 10 for the 360, we cannot get it to you any sooner than March 31st. Rest assured, though, that we will do everything in our power to get you the game on the day it’s released. And of course, if for any unforeseen complication prohibits us from delivering the game, we will deliver you the funds to cover it (but we’d much prefer to deliver the game).
Mystery bonus prize: As we’ve said, of the ten winners, one will be selected to receive a mystery bonus prize depending on the answer to question 25 we like the most. This judging will not take place at the same time as the quiz grading, and I do not know the specific day the prize will be sent, but it will probably be within the week of March 1st. The bonus prize will need to be sent via mail, so if selected you will need to provide a receiving address.
As for what the mystery prize is, I don’t know when we’ll announce that, but probably soon. However, if you head over to WingDamage.com and get their Barrel Roll #54 podcast (should come up on Tuesday), I may have participated in said podcast and dropped some kind of information pertaining to a bonus prize. Just saying!
Anyway, the deadline is fast approaching, but you still have plenty of time to get your entries in! It’s not a terribly hard quiz, honest!
