After a long wait that stretches back 14 years, several fans have made breakthroughs in four different Mega Man games. Protodude of Protodude's Rockman Corner, along with a few other dedicated fans have made available prototype and beta versions of Rockman X5, Mega Man Legends 2, and The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, along with a hacked debug mode in Mega Man 8.Read More
Heat Man may have temporarily left us to go adventuring in Japan, but that won't stop the MegaCast! We still have what's left of our rag tag crew including myself (Jesse "Main Finger" Gregory), resident conspiracy theorist Andrew "AWD !" Dickman, and Tabby "I don't like music" Ramsey. We also talk to Brian Austrin of Protodude's Rockman Corner about all manner of strange Rockman memorabilia. After the interview portion, we talk about the greatest Mega Man game ever (don't question it!) the original Mega Man X. We then ponder over the many masterfully crafted intricacies of the Ruby-Spears Mega Man cartoon. To top it all off, we have a discussion on how Mega Man could get more attention from the mainstream again partially inspired by Heat's recent editorial of paradigms and how they might need some shifting.
All this and more on the latest Megatacular Podcastisode!
Here's a Sunday riddle for you all. How do you make one of the most poorly made and most weird Mega Man games even worse? By playing the unfinished version of it! Protodude's Rockman Corner has some details on a recently leaked beta copy of the game which, among other differences, contains many sketched placeholders instead of the finished graphics and menus. There's also a download for the prototype, so if you feel like hunting for more differences, or just want to torture yourself, have at it! And if you want to yell at me about not recognizing what a fun game Mega Man X6 actually is, I'll pretend to believe you!
Dramatic death scenes aren't limited to just Zero and Iris in X4. Check out this Rockman 9 parody of the scene, with Blues mourning the loss of Splash Woman. I have to say, I'm impressed by the quality of the art here. The video maker got the classic Rockman style down perfectly.

Protodude has gotten hold of a scan from the latest Coro-Coro, which seems to give some more info about the new Rockman contest in Japan. Heat Man, the site's translator, is in the middle of personal business right now and can't be reached for translation, but Protodude claims that she can make out details about a possible revival of an inactive Mega Man series.
http://www.dotup.org/uploda/www.dotup.org2461.jpg
Again, Heat isn't around to translate this for us, but if Protodude is right... We could possible have a X9, Command Mission 2, or another Battle Network installment based on the characters in the picture (Legends doesn't look like it's getting any love, though the word "DASH" is in the text.) We'll keep you posted.
EDIT: [4:35 EST] As shown in the comments, the quote ran through Babelfish implied what Protodude originally said, but here's a more clear translation (Also passed along from Protodude)
“Here’s a preliminary translation of the Coro Coro character design contest courtesy of multiple people.
First and foremost the article does not outright say a series will be revived, however there is a possibility the contests pertains to a new installment in an older series. That said, Coro Coro will unveil the contest details February 13th. The judges for the contest will be Keiji Inafune, Capcom staff and editor of Coro Coro Comics.
First prize winners will have their character appear in a “new Rockman story” and receive oodles of Rockman goods. Second place winners will receive Rockman goods and a special Coro Coro item.”
