Mega Man Gigamix Vol. 1 Hits Stores Tomorrow

Rejoice Ariga fans, your first big helping of Mega Man Gigamix comes tomorrow! Via a notice from UDON's Matt Moylan, that's when you can expect the manga to hit stores. Online orders ought to be forthcoming soon after. We've gotten numerous tips over the past couple months concerning how much Gigamix vol. 1's release date has been bouncing around on Amazon. It's currently listed for July, but I imagine it should be much sooner. This time UDON followed through on the release promise! For now, though, you can enjoy these preview shots of Mega Man Gigamix vol. 1. Thanks Matt!

Hitoshi Ariga Interview, Gigamix Preview

Comic Book Resources has a pretty lengthy interview with mangaka Hitoshi Ariga right now, talking all about Mega Man Megamix and Gigamix. Ariga goes into detail about how he gives each character their unique personality based on their behavior in the games, and other aspects about the comic series. For example:

Fire Man and Heat Man are great examples of how I go about this. In the game, Heat Man's attacks are pretty scary, but he spends a surprising amount of time standing still. He doesn't jump at all, but will produce fire at Mega Man's position with deadly accuracy. So while he is an intimidating enemy, he has a very cool and calculating side to him. That's why the Fire Man in my manga turned out to be a pretty calm individual, despite being a fire-type character.

The interview also contains the first look at lettered pages from Gigamix vol. 1, as well as the first sample page from Gigiamix vol. 2. Ariga also spends a bit of time talking about the stories and other elements of the new Gigamix series.

Fans of Hitoshi Ariga and his upcoming Mega Man works should definitely check this one out! Thanks to Matt Moylan for the tip!

UDON Officially Announces Mega Man Gigamix

And here it is! The official announcement of the Mega Man Gigamix trilogy, coming in May!

UDON to release Mega Man™ Gigamix manga series

Toronto, ON – January 27, 2011 –  This past year, Hitoshi Ariga’s classic Mega Man™ Megamix manga series was finally brought to English readers, much to the delight of Mega-fans who had been waiting to read the manga since its Japanese release over a ten years ago. Now, with another decade of experience under his belt, Ariga is back with the all-new Mega Man Gigamix, an epic 3-volume manga series set to become known as the greatest Mega Man story ever!

Cover and interior art previews:

$12.95, 224pp, B&W

ISBN: 978-1926778235

UDON's post also has some great page samples. Nothing filled in with dialog yet, but the artwork is definitely the best the series has seen!

Thanks, Matt!

The Megamix & Gigamix Box Set

In early January, Tanomi will be offering an exclusive box set comprised of the two volumes of Rockman Megamix and three volumes of Rockman Gigamix.* The set comes in a box with a design by Hitoshi Ariga, as well as an original post card. The whole set will sell for ¥6,861 (about $82.78 US). Chances are you've either imported these by now or are waiting for UDON to get the license to localize Gigamix. But if you're a hardcore Ariga fan, good luck! *The site actually lists three volumes of Megamix and two volumes of Gigamix, but this must be a mistake. There are three volumes of Gigamix in the complete set, and the original Rockman Megamix was condensed into two volumes under Wedge Holdings, who is the current Megamix/Gigamix publisher. The correct listing of volumes is apparent on the box image.

Rockman Gigamix Vol. 2 Cover, Release Detals

While we're about to get the original Rockman Megamix here in North America (known as Mega Man Megamix of course), you have to remember that Japan is already up to Rockman Gigamix. And in fact, the second volume is coming out in Japan this month on the 27th for ¥1,200 (roughly $13.40 US). If you'll remember, this is the volume set to contain the fan-submitted throwaway characters that Ariga held a contest for last year. Check out the covers and inserts below, via Tanomikomu Shop.

Judging by these images, Gigamix Vol. 2 will continue the space theme that was focused on in Vol. 1, with the story of Rockman 3 and the mining colony planets.  This time, however, the comic will feature the debut of the Space Rulers (the Stardroids to us), as well as the introduction of Duo. Where you say? Well that strange looking white and blue robot over to the right is actually Duo's original form! Incidentally, the lazy looking robot to the left comes from this artwork, but probably won't be too significant.

With Rockman Gigamix Vol. 3 set to release in June, I have to wonder if the space theme will continue. And if that's the case... maybe we can look forward to a story about Rockman 10? It would fit, given the subtitle of "The Menace from Outer Space!!"  Even more, however, I hope that UDON will start bringing us Gigamix before long!
