Koch Media Announces Capcom Home Arcade Plug ‘n Play

Yesterday, Capcom UK teased on Twitter that an announcement was forthcoming today, the 16th of April, 20XX — er, 2019. And, as promised, here it is — and much of the speculation was correct:

The Capcom Home Arcade from Koch Media is a high-end entry into the plug ‘n play console market that’s recently been dominated by the likes of Nintendo and So — er, by Nintendo (fingers crossed that the SEGA Genesis Mini will give us the SEGA Channel version of Mega Man: The Wily Wars later this year, though).

Housed in a giant base shaped like the Capcom logo — because it sports the Capcom logo, most likely — the Capcom Home Arcade lives up to its name with a pair of full-size arcade “Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT” joysticks (with with 8-way GT-Y directional gates) and eight OBSF buttons per player. In addition, it sports HDMI output with an included cable, is powered through a micro USB port (which uses an included cable, but it sounds like a plug for a power outlet is up to you), and even features onboard Wi-Fi for worldwide leaderboard access.

Sixteen games are included. Naturally, the reason I’m even talking about this here is the inclusion of Mega Man: The Power Battle, while its sequel is sadly not featured. The rest of the lineup is nothing to sneeze at, though: 1944: The Loop Master, Armored Warriors, Capcom Sports Club, Captain Commando, Cyberbots: Full Metal Madness, Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors, Eco Fighters, Final Fight, Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, Giga Wing, Pro Gear, Street Fighter II’: Hyper Fighting, Strider, and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo are also joined by the first ever official re-release of the legendary Alien vs. Predator arcade game.

The Capcom Home Arcade is slated for a European launch this October 25th for the hefty price of 229.99€. While Capcom UK’s tweet notes “NA details soon,” that price translates to roughly $259.53 USD/$346.58 CAD (yeowch) as of this writing.

At present, the only place to get this is the official Capcom Europe store, but “more retailers” are to be announced soon.
