Fight for Everlasting Friendship in Megapony Fan Game

These days, it seems that you can’t throw a shoe without hitting a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fan. Whether that’s a good thing or not is left up to one’s individual taste.

Interestingly enough, it almost seems as though the timeline of Pony-mania’s rise mirrors the recent decline of the Mega Man video games. With that in mind, we suppose it almost makes sense that the two would cross at some point, and the seeming result is the fan game Megapony: Episode 1.

As you can see above, the game is based on Mega Man 2 still in progress and is available as an open beta. You don’t play as any of the “Mane Six,” who have been corrupted by Discord, but rather as the eponymous Megapony, who fires shots from his (her?) horn.

It’s an amusing little piece of work, with some decent references to the show, such as Pinkie Pie, aka “Laugh Mare” (wait, then shouldn’t the hero be “Mega Mare?”) waiting deep inside a level made of cake and guarded by robot versions of her toothless alligator. The battle with the fourth-wall-breaking filly also seems true to the character, as she wheels around a “Party Cannon” (which sounds like something from the old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toyline, but we digress) and attacks with balloons in what seems to be a unique pattern, rather than just a Robot Master with new graphics.

Megapony: Episode I may not set the world on fire, but should be an interesting enough side-trip for those who are fans of both Mega Man and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Or, if you would rather see an official 8-bit MLP:FiM game, then check this out.

Oh, and one last thing: Try to keep the comments civil. You don’t have to like My Little Pony or pretend you do, but try to keep a sense of respect about you or else we reserve the right to delete your comments (this goes in all situations, but we felt it bears repeating here especially).

Thanks for the tip, MechaHorseX!
