Preview Pages for Mega Man #23 Now Available on Destructoid

Issue23Cover_zps388cd47aWell, this is admittedly a little awkwardly-timed, given that Erico just reviewed this very issue in the latest edition of “The Blue Ink” just last week. But then, you probably avoided that if you didn’t want spoilers (unless you had to edit it, anyway), so this works out well for those who want but a simple peek.

And peek you shall, over on Destructoid! Given the cover seen at right, it is probably not revealing too much to say that this is where the Blue Bomber and the Red Rocker collide in a bout of violet violence.

Plus, this is the final issue before the beginning of the “Worlds Collide” story arc which brings the worlds of Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog together for the first time ever.

So give it a go, and leave your thoughts below!

I’m confused about where Worlds Collide fits into the comics’ continuity now. Originally I thought it was going to be flung off into the distant future, since it will feature Proto Man, Bass, and other characters who haven’t had their proper introduction yet, but Wily mentions Robotnik by name here. Proto Man and Bass especially seem like they ought to cause a continuity snarl. The forther is going to be fighting alongside Mega Man, Sonic and Tails, but how can Proto Man do that and pretend he’s still on Wily’s side to make sure Mega Man 3 plays out properly? Does it make sense to bring Bass out for this epic but then shove him back into the closet when it’s over, even though he’d definitely try to escape from it because he lives to fight Mega Man, regardless of there being at least five more stories before the Mega Man 7 plot can begin, no less? How will he pretend to be an ally if he’s tried to shoot up Mega Man several times before that game begins?

I hope I’m not disappointed. The comic has been wonderfully intelligent so far.

Maybe the evil doctors play around with time and space in that arc, otherwise it wouldn’t make to much sense for Protoman and Bass being good guys… or Duo to appear in it having one of the covers with PF/PB like style in mind where he’s visible.

For Sonic’s side it’s quite easy as Archie has done all of the game canon’s stories already, on MegaMan’s side however it’s quite confusing ’til now.

Still this seems to be a great issue, seeing the Robot Masters to battle for a simple birthday gift is just awesome :D

    Dear Archie Comics,

After “Worlds Collide”, F-in’ PLEASE hire the Mother of Manga, Rumiko Takahashi, to work on future issues. Just give her a CHANCE! If she could do “Urusei Yatsura”, “Ranma 1/2″, and “InuYasha”, it’s very possible she could contribute to “Mega Man”!

  4. Phaelin says:

@Jean-Luc: Let her keep doing her thing. The Archie folks are doing just fine. It’s the best comic I’ve read. Ever.

  5. Erico says:

Maybe Destructoid should hire me, just in case I ever get the jump on them again… :)

  6. Aaron says:

    @Jean-Luc,

Why bring up Rumiko Takahashi? That just seem… random. If you’re going to bring up manga artists/writers, why not Hitoshi Ariga, or Shin Ogino? At least then, you’ll be talking about people that have worked on Mega Man (not to mention an known interest in it…)

  7. Breadroll says:

If we’re going to randomly name manga artist that we’d want to work on Mega Man, I say Eiichiro Oda hands down. He is the most successful manga artist of all time. He is also widely considered a true god of manga, by breaking and re-breaking records, redefining the popularity in shonen genres and manga in general. He also has a known interest in working on a robot story after he ends One Piece.

If Eiichiro Oda worked on Mega Man, not only would he create a story huge in scale, he’d be able to balance each and every one of the large cast of characters in the series, their powers, personalities everything. All this is just wishful thinking though.
