A Fantastic Mega Man 3 Arrangement for Chiptune Lovers

Now here’s an arrangement I can really get behind! Chiptune artist RushJet1 (whose work has been featured on the album Chiptuned Rockman), brings us a chiptune arrangement of Mega Man 3‘s superb soundtrack nine months in the making. But wait, doesn’t MM3 already have chip programmed music? That’s the thing, this arrangement uses Konamis VRC6 chip, which added three additional sound channels to the typical NES’s four. What you get is a soundtrack that has much more depth, but still wreaks of old school awesomeness.

The above video is a complete gameplay of Mega Man 3 using the new soundtrack, but you can listen to or purchase it from Bandcamp as well, and I’d say it’s well worth it. Besides just overall great sound, the album has some nice surprises as well, including special arrangements for… well, I’ll just let you see for yourself. If you love Mega Man or chiptune music, this album will have you grinning and rocking out!

  1. This has to be one of the most fantastic things I have EVER seen/heard ever… o_o

Sweet Jesus, this is beautiful stuff. I can’t go back to the original soundtrack now that I’ve heard this…X_X

  3. Omar says:

Yeah I can definitely hear that Metal Gear sound in it… the only songs I have distaste for would be Gemini Man’s and Magnet Man’s stages. Gemini’s is supposed to be a salsa song… though it definitely did turn out better than Magnet Man’s.

Overall, it’s a great piece of work. I loved most of it. 7/5 bananas.

While an enjoyable cover and something I will consider purchasing, I think this also goes to demonstrate just how awesome Capcom was for pulling off incredible music with just four channels, without the need for additional chips. These are enjoyable covers in their own right, but in many cases I prefer the original compositions–but that’s mostly stylistic choices rather than technical.

…of all time. It reminds me of an album for the old Ninja Gaiden I. The album collects the tracks for Ninja Gaiden For the NES & Arcade: For the NES part, certain tracks have an added channel to the original that gives it a new interpretation of the music. Look it up and give it a listen.

Woooo doggay. I’m looking forward to this. I’m hoping from the title that it’s a “modern chiptune” take on the original tunes, but, even if it’s just an expansion and rearrangement of the original tunes in a more faithful form, I’ll be happy either way. Chiptune + Chiptune = win.

  7. Omar: Salsa? The only time Gemini Man sounded like salsa to me is with the Power Battles (or was it Power Fighters? I can’t remember which of those games it was) rendition of it. The original, chiptune version doesn’t sound like salsa to me at all, though. To me, the original version sounds dark, foreboding, and eerie. If it were supposed to be a salsa, then I guess it’s a ghostly, ghastly salsa.

This was very awesome!! I don’t know if it was just me though, but some of the songs seemed to be sped up a bit which slightly bothered me, like the Stage Select,Snake Man, Spark Man, and You got Weapon, they sounded great, but sped up. I dunno if anyone else noticed, maybe it’s just me.

Love this to death. RushJet1 is my hero. The special boss themes for the Doc Robot stages and fights are just toooo good.

Reminds me of Chiptuned Rockman. And it sounds incredible.

Yeah man. For those of us who have a Mexican background, it’s easier to hear. Look, here’s some examples for comparison:

The “Get Weapon” theme is derived from Parranda, but only those of Afro-Venezuelan background are able to really hear it. I’m Afro-Venezuelan btw
