Alright, Alright, You Guys Win…
Okay, so when we brought you word last week of what Mega Man goodness was in the newest issue of Nintendo Power, we did leave a part out– mostly because it didn’t really say anything we haven’t been hearing from Capcom, and figured it would only lead to more cynicism (and at the places that did cover it, it has), which we already see plenty of around here.
But since it seems that not only is every website grabbing it, but you guys keep sending in tips, too, you must really want it here for all to see, so here it is: The last part of the interview (which we did allude to before, incidentally). answered by Capcom Vice President Christian Svensson:
Nintendo Power: What does the future hold for Mega Man?
Christian Svensson: I can say with certainty that you’ve not seen the last of the Blue Bomber on consoles and handhelds, and, with luck, we’ll be celebrating his 50th anniversary, including all of the games you’re going to enjoy over the next 25 years. That said, an issue we’ve had in the past has been talking about games and announcing them before we’re certain they’re going to come out, which unfortunately has led to profound disappointment for many fans. So for now, I’m going to have to stay mum about any details.
And there you have it.
Thanks to all of you who sent us a tip about this! Now we’d better see joy and smiles and rainbows in the comments about the news!
And thanks to Nadia Oxford for the use of her pic!

@ForcedUser: Megaman’s survival hinges on CoJ climbing out of the nigh-bottomless well of stupidity they currently reside in, which is also doubtful.
But yes, I’m gonna miss Nintendo Power.
Wonder what they’ll do for their final issue…
@Redrazerzero
I believe I was focused on overall contol mechanics and some systems in comparison to the X series. Yeah I knew I forgot something. Oh well I just let it go anyways.
@Radix
Exactly no one is really an idiot here they are simply stating how they feel even if yes its not the best thing to say at the moment ,but people are in some form venting granted okay a news forum/ comments place is not the best place to do it ,but realistically can anyone blame indiviiduals for expressing themselves? We are all human and we have the right to feel this way on free will plus the nature of the net its like a huge school yard if you will. Just without any teacher to say hey stop what you are doing.
This is like a school yard with no real rules other than hey if this gets worse we pull the plug and so far these comments are not bad. Someone could have by now come up with the most hated comment and ruin it ,but so far I see real thought process and I see real expression of self here all over these comments when expressing something. In this case the hatred for how things are these days with Capcom Japan Idealogy on practice VS fans of series we like.
You know I do not hate PR’s because this is their job and since this PR is from Capcom of America a branch of Capcom Japan really with what Sven says has no real meaning realistically. So why is Capcom of Japan not using their PR Guy because well one we can’t understand what he or she is saying unless you are some sort of translator. (or is the PR a guy?) I don’t remember ,but the point is this is what SVen has to do is to give the fans some reinsurance even if it has no meaning and this is common that yes a lot of us are gonna not wanna listen because we want Capcom of Japan to say or do something directly and obviously that’s not gonna happen maybe not now or later or never at all.
Eh, I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again.
I’ll believe a new game is coming out when a new game actually comes out.
There was reason to have hope when MML3 was a possibility. Nowadays? Capcom’s going to keep releasing fighting games and Resident Evil sequels.
If Megaman has a future, then it’s with the fans and the fans alone. Capcom can no longer be trusted with its own IP.
So how ’bout that 25th anniversary celebration?
Five (?) music soundtracks (Japan exclusive?, no USA release plans?), a comics crossover with Sonic, and ?????
(Deliberately leaving XOver out of that list, because as proven by CAPCOM’s recent (RECENT) track record, if it’s a Rockman/Megaman GAME, cancellation is never off the table)
@Captain: Don’t forget the re-released art book whose new content may amount to just a couple of pages.
Rockman XOver has less gameplay than the old “punch the monkey” ads that once populated the ‘net. Pardon the language, but Capcom will do whatever it can to half-ass things unless it’s on of their AAA titles.
The best we can hope for from Capcom these days is a throwaway cameo or two. I’d be extremely surprised if they somehow pulled a Sega and started making good Megaman games again.
Wow huge comment. I think I’m throwing out a years worth of stuff here.
@ RADIX
The problem is that Capcom’s Mega Man development IMPLODED. Everything they had that left the drawing board is gone.
You can respond to that in two ways. You can assume the franchise is dead, with good reason absolutely. But do you WANT the franchise to be dead? No? Then what other explaination is there? That Capcom has nothing to show and that something worth showing needs to be rebuilt from the ground up- which takes at least a year.
XOver is no one’s fault, no one wanted it, and no, it certainly did not take a year to make. It’s just that if a game is the only thing that will convince you that Capcom’s still interested in the franchise, quick-and-cheap iOS games or “We’re working on it.” are the only responses Capcom can give. The way most people here are responding, neither of those responses are sufficient. Thus Capcom cannot do ANYTHING. When you get to the point where you say “Even a decent Mega Man game won’t make up for what was lost”, as if every Mega Man game was a gold star, you’re setting a bar that Capcom cannot reach.
I’m not defending Capcom’s astonishing shortsightedness this console generation (The REAL reasoning for the cancellation of Legends 3 is almost juvenile, it’s so bad). I’m not in denial that the series might very well be dead- if we’re in this situation a year from now I will join that bandwagon. I’m certainly not saying there is no reason not to be mad at Capcom.
I’m just saying that at this point, optimism is better than rage, because at the end of the day, Capcom is still the developer/publishers, and when you say “Go to Hell Capcom”, you give them ZERO chance to redeem themselves. If you give them no chance to redeem themselves, to even TRY, you’re killing the series by extension.
hmmmmm maybe after the archie comics is done……SONIC AND MEGAMAN COLLAB GAME WOOHOO!!!!
@Soaring Buster: Problem is, there’s currently nothing to be optimistic about, games-wise (except maybe Xover, but I’m not counting on it being good), and I don’t think many people can maintain their optimism in a vacuum for very long, myself included. It’s just really emotionally-exhausting.
I also don’t think anyone was trying to set the bar THAT high. Just “please give us something you spent more than five minutes on”. MM11 was an example I kept hearing and using–the engine for it already exists, and I sincerely doubt it would take that long to make. Of course it couldn’t completely make up for 2011 on its own, but it would be a START.
Even given the circumstances, Xover looks so half-assed it’s insulting. There’s putting something out to fill the void, and then there’s apathy in game form.
And finally–”you’re killing the series by extension”? No, I’m pretty sure that Capcom doesn’t bother with any site(s) but their own. And if they do, then I’d think most of us would stop with/lessen the “Capcom must burn” if CoJ showed us that they do care about the series and are trying to get it back in shape. (Also, victim-blaming)
Megaman, as an IP, is dead. The most we can expect from Capcom is the occasional throwaway cameo — if they had any sort of faith in the brand, they wouldn’t have teased us with the conga-line of cancellations.
Unless Capcom learns from Sega — that if you put effort into reviving a dead series people will give you money — we may as well resign ourselves to fangames and comics for our Blue Bomber fix.
“…I don’t think many people can maintain their optimism in a vacuum for very long, myself included. It’s just really emotionally-exhausting.”
Then don’t make it emotionally exhausting. If anything, approaching it from the perspective of “Mega Man is dead until proven otherwise” puts some closure on it for the time being. That’s how I’ve seen it, and it’s probably why I’ve been taking it from the perspective I have.
“I’d think most of us would stop with/lessen the “Capcom must burn” if CoJ showed us that they do care about the series and are trying to get it back in shape. (Also, victim-blaming)”
Not victim blaming at all, just a warning not to get bent out of shape with Capcom to the degree where REAL effort, if it does come, isn’t appreciated. I don’t think a lot of folks who talk as if they’re at that point really are, so its more hypothetical than anything.
“Even given the circumstances, Xover looks so half-assed it’s insulting. There’s putting something out to fill the void, and then there’s apathy in game form. ”
Absolutely.
If only the world ran on cynicism…
The comments from 2012 alone could solve the energy crisis.
@Beaten Deadhorse
That is the smartest thing I’ve heard all day.
“with luck, we’ll be celebrating his 50th anniversary”
Indeed. Megaman will need TONS of luck to stay alive for another 25 years (or less).
Judging from all of these comments, I can safely say that the editors of this site’s news were COMPLETELY justified in withholding this interview snippet.
@Phaelin idk what you want, sonic is getting games and we arn’t. They’re actually allowed to look at that iOS game as an added bonus because they have other things to look forward to and we don’t.
“Megaman is dead until proven otherwise”…interesting perspective, Soaring Buster. And I would think the same for Monster Hunter in America until proven otherwise, too.

@Soaring Buster: “Make”, nothing. It JUST IS (at least for me).
I, for one, am hopeful that Capcom will get a fire under their butt soon, what with the WiiU n’ all.
THINGS THAT BOTHER YOU NEVER BOTHER ME I’M AS HAPPY AS PIIIIIIIIEEEEE
Getting tired of the whole “Mega Man is dead” line. Even before Sven said he had no doubt, it’s obvious Capcom wouldn’t let such a lucrative and loved franchise die.
Yeah, they’ve irritated us with cancellations. Be patient. It’ll happen.
Hmm. Hopefully a new 8 bit mega man 11 or an HD collection of legends.
@Jooba
If it means anything, I’m tired of it as well. But I’m even more tired of Capcom delaying and cancelling good games, and rushing out digital feces like Xover and the iOSport MMX.
I love the Megaman games. For years I was obsessed with them, but if Capcom isn’t going to care then, frankly, why should I?
I’ll never give up hope. This is Megaman we’re talking about. I see no reason to abandon something I love so dearly just because of some disheartening and stupid circumstances, even if we as fans have suffered some major blows. MML is my favorite game of all time, and so many more MM games are very special and important to me. We must show Capcom that we want this and will support them when they eventually to attempt to release a new Megaman game. When that day comes, I will be there. As Jooba says, patience is required.
