Gotta say Bass EXE. Just loved his design and personality, really. The cloak gave him an atmosphere of mystery and malice, and even if you weren’t familiar with the character Bass from the Classic series, you knew when you encountered him that he was going to be an extremely powerful opponent.
My favorite Net Navi has to be Mega Man. He’s cute, he’s blue and it’s my favorite color. But I also like Bass, it’s an awesome redesign.
I’m gonna have to go with PharoahMan.exe. No explanation for his existence, for his motivation, or why he’s hostile. He’s just there, like a force of nature.
I really like BurnerMan exe.’s design. Jet burners out the head and arms, allowing for awesome mobility and devastating dash attacks/tackles.
And of course the blue flames, making his flames much hotter and damaging than other fire based exe.
Also liked his episode in the anime. Used a Burnerman exe. image for a display pic on forums for a long while back in the day.
I liked the generic green navis, they are the sniper joes of Battle Network. Really though with so many interesting designs and fights, it’s hard to choose. When I was younger, the navis found in the undernet and secret areas (Shadow, Pharaoh, Planet, Serenade, etc) came off as very menacing. I was really into it then so it felt really heroic to stand up to them
Definitely Elec Man. He’s normally my favorite Robot Master anyways, but here he just looks awesome!
My favourite netnavi is definitely SearchMan. 50 damage charge machine gun shot, wooooo! I love vulcan cannon attacks so much. He’s so efficient and powerful. Not somewhat useless like most of the other netnavi that don’t belong to Lan.
I gotta give it to Bass.exe. Making him a secret boss in the first one only worked to hype him up for the next one, where he was insanely powerful. It’s really a big leap in epicness after his personality in the classic series. He went from being obsessed with killing Mega Man, to just a brooding power-hungry wanderer.
For overall NetNavi characters, my favorite has got to be… Colonel EXE. I’ve been a fan of him ever since “Mega Man Battle Network 5: Team Colone”l on Game Boy Advance, I mean of the two team leaders/game versions, he controls the BEST. He has everything, tall size, great design, he’s got the attitude, the seriousness, and most of all, his Cyber Sword Arm, WAY BETTER than Proto Man EXE.’s, it was so fun to play as Colonel, that’s why I mostly play that version of Battle Network 5. Plus, his Giga Chip is USEFUL in TIGHT Battle scenes.
He was so cool that he was playable and all of that in MMBN 5: Team Colonel/Double Team DS, while in 6 serves as a villian… so freakin’ cool that he can be in a CopyBot body and be in the real world… that is pretty cool. At the end, he turns good again and the shocker out of that is that he and his sister Iris both sacrificed their own lives to stop the CyBeasts. Dr. Wily then made a new Colonel and Iris, but we NEVER got to see their re-creations.
Also, at the time and way before the release of Battle Network 5, I never played Mega Man X4, but knew of Colonel there, then one time did a comparison between the two Colonels, Capcom did a pretty good job of adapting the image of Colonel from Reploid original image to NetNavi new version.
All these reasons are why Colonel EXE. is my favorite out of all NetNavi. I’m surprised that I didn’t even choose Mega Man EXE. since he is the star of the Battle Network series.
I’d have to say my favorite net Navi would be GateMan. Although he didn’t contribute a great role in the game or in the anime, I first saw him in game and thought he was kick ass. His simple design looked appealing and I also like his “gate” concept, I thought it was pretty creative.
Another Navi that I wanted to put mention is the Gregar form of Rockman. No real reason that I can say except he looks freakin awesome XD
I liked Shadowman.EXE. The original Shadowman had a pretty cool design, but this version was a lot sleeker and more deadly looking. Plus, with the various polygons incorperated, he had a really nice blend of ninja and electronic in his appearance. I liked his personality as well. He was a ninja who did ninja things for ninja reasons… or, well, for money. I happen to like mercenary characters since they’re not really good or evil, they’re just doing it for a paycheck. They’re a lot less straightforward that way, since they lack an unwavering sense of justice, dictating that they’ll always do what’s right, or some crazy agenda, doing whatever it takes to accomplish their goals. When it came to Shadowman, he could work behind the scenes and almost no one would know he was there, or he could do something big and crazy, like lead a terrorist attack. And as for his fighting style, his was pretty great. As a normal navi, he had no weakness, but with a Heat attack, he could still exploit one. If the opponent were on Grass paneling, he could even double the attacks power. He could also create illusions of himself, forcing his enemy to halt their assault until they could figure out which one was real. And perhaps my favorite was his charge attack from BN5, where he would jump into the air and, autotargetting an enemy, whip a suriken their way. I always loved getting one of those ready, waiting for an attack to come my way, and then leaping up, out of the way where I couldn’t get hit, rather than just sidestepping the strike.
I like Judgeman.EXE, mainly because it’s an original design–both in terms of not being based on another series’ character and the aesthetic design itself. Whether we’re thinking of robots or cyberspace, you wouldn’t expect a Megaman character to be based on something as comparatively archaic as the printed page. Maybe I’m READING too much into it, but I like the suggestion that the book still serves as a symbol of knowledge/intelligence in this far-flung future.
