GameTrailers Takes on the Mystery of Mega Man 9

For nearly four years now, a single mystery has eluded Mega Man fans the world over in the ninth mainline adventure. But this week on GameTrailers’ “Pop Fiction” series, they’ve gone after the White Whale of Blue Bomber fans.

Do they succeed? Well, to just state it here outright would make the whole thing just a little bit anticlimactic, so check out the episode and discuss their findings below.

Maybe you gotta do 1987 screens?!? or 2008 screens?!?

  2. DVS says:

I can’t watch the video. What do they think it was?

  3. Phaelin says:

@DVS Now that would be cheating! (Spoilers: Killian will be taking the secret to his grave.)

  4. Vanya says:

At this point, I think either he’s full of crap or it’s something really stupid.

  5. DanteZX says:

Yeah this isn’t even worth the communities time anymore. I mean who on earth even has the time to sit down and even get to 10,000 screens in a day? People do have lives. >.>

  6. some dude says:

I don’t think it’s worth finding if you have to go through all that.

  7. pstart says:

They actually went pretty in-depth with this, more than I was expecting! It’s too bad that despite their earnest dedication, they still found nothing. At the very least, it’s helped me understand better the current situation of the “mystery”; I didn’t even know it was closely tied to the Endless Mode.

If they had access to such cheats though, it would have been worth it to try altering the screen count value to the max/near max and tried clearing a few more screens after that, and then submitting the score to see if that changed anything. Seeing that montage of gameplay footage, and hearing that they went through a whole session without realizing they needed to die makes my stomach turn.

  8. Glitcher says:

I can’t watch the whole video. I only managed to get up to three minutes before Firefox crashed. :(

  9. Bob says:

Really I think there was some massive secret people like the guys at The Cutting Room Floor would have found it just from tearing the game files apart.

If any secret exists it’s probably something so small it’s probably not worth talking about.

    …bleh…
Personally I think Seth is just trolling everyone.

  11. reifuTD says:

Okay isn’t there someone who trained an advanced computer AI to play Mega man and beat all the screens?

  12. Someone says:

    wow, it’s **** nothing.

  13. McWhalen says:

Guys just forget about it. It was just a stupid gimmick to promote the game among fans.

  14. erikthered says:

well, maybe it involves using no powers, killing every enemy, killing no enemies, killing only mets, or maybe it has something to do with the order of the levels?

maybe a certain screen has a certain hidden something?

  15. Einherjar says:

Maybe its just a secret room, that shows up randomly after a certain number of rooms have been cleared. Maybe thats why they thought it has been found by the guy who cleared 99999 rooms. It remembers me of the “Goo King Sword” myth of breath of fire 3 ;) An item drop so rare, that some people dont beleave that it actually exists.

  16. Heat Man says:

I’ve suspected it might be something occurring once you get to 69,000 screens, since that number is the sort of play on words for “Rockman.” But to realistically expect anyone would be able to make it that far legitimately…

  17. aquila0109 says:

    @Heat Man
    That would be 60.000.

  18. Seraph Man says:

I bet if you reach 15000 in endless mode it heals you or something that wouldn’t be noticed if you’re using a cheat code that doesn’t allow you to get hurt.

  19. VileMKII says:

Personally I think after so many screens one stage is programmed to automatically appear and has one tile altered in the game.

  20. Matt says:

I wonder if I could like, keep my PS3 on until I got far enough, and never turn it off. It would break, and like, I could sue Capcom or something.

    Sigh… that’s a stupid idea.
