From Pixels to Plastic: Kotobukiya Mega Man Zero
Posted on October 8th, 2012 by LBD "Nytetrayn"
Well, this is sort of embarrassing. A while back, we told you about several episodes of Retroware TV’s “From Pixels to Plastic” episodes which covered a variety of different Mega Man and Rockman figures, but in the process, one was overlooked.
The following comes from November 2011, but nonetheless provides an excellent look at Kotobukiya’s Mega Man Zero model kit, a curious addition to their lineup following the release of Mega Man, Roll, and Proto Man from the Classic series:
Have you grabbed one of these yet? If so, what are your thoughts? Tell us in the comments below!

My friend bought me one of these last year for Christmas. I spent a good two hours building him and I was so excited to have him completed. Every so often, I would put him in a different pose. Third time was the charm, however, and I’m sad to say that his right arm broke off and it’s nigh impossible to repair him. It really sucks, but I can’t say I’d buy another one.
…I think I just had a nerdgasm.
But seriously though, where can you get them? Or at least order them?
@GeminiSparkSP Amazon is a good place.
I don’t get why the thumb isn’t attached to the hand at first… cut it out of the frame wrong by accident, now I can’t pose him with the Z knuckle.
be careful when taking out his thumb from the frame.
This again? This was already covered? I remember commenting on a article of this figure.
But anyways, my thoughts on the figure, it sucks! Big head, pops out, and also the inner shoulder on the left side broke off from just trying to pose him! Junk! This is what happens to hollow parts. Well it’s aleast WAY BETTER than the stupid Jazwares one. Way better! But I hate how it comes with the Z-Knuckle painted, but not the other hands? What the?! And even the chest and neck could of came painted too or been made into smaller parts, but nope we have to paint it?! While Kotobukiya does smaller pieces for Zoids kits to come already painted! What the?! And what I hate the MOST is that it lags weapons!!!!! Kotobukiya, a big brand name, big company, has a lot of resources, and team, and they can’t produce a very good Zero?! Yet the resin kits, made by a single sculptor, one person or two, can make a Zero that comes with most or all his weapons?! Both have similar articulation and features. But the fans ones are way better in my opinion. I know, I know, they are only in Japan, very limited, rare, hard to find and get, but they are way better!!!!!
Oh my God………. Zero has eyebrows…..
Spin-off series…
Spin-off…
WAT!?
@Megafan: I thought we might have as well, but it never came up in any of my searches. If you know where it is, please link me to it.
I mean, I know we’ve covered the figure, but I don’t think we’ve ever posted this review…
Zero’s COSTUME? BLASTER gun? Has this guy even played the game?
Oh Sweet Baby Jesus, this reviewer has no idea how to cut and clean a kit…
Despite some mild posability issues, this kit is proportioned exactly like the original designs. The Kotobukiya plastics are total crap, but they hold together in total contrast to the company’s SRW and Frame Arms lines. Bandai would’ve been the better go-to for this line, since they previously handled Rockman model kits at the turn of the century and have advanced their engineering considerably since then (most of their non-Gundam lines don’t suck any more), but Koto does like to tackle all of the ‘miscellaneous’ licenses in the Japanese media spectrum. Better to have the kit than never get an official MMZ Zero figure and pine for the Harvet-Wks resin kit while praying for Bandai to give the design a D-Arts makeover. :/
I love the koto kits, I just finished building my Roll figure this week, and I’m getting Zero at the weekend. It’s a good review, I just wish it didn’t have pixel dan in it.
His voice is irritating. He has a very patronizing tone that sounds like he should be a presenter for a kids news show. He claims he’s a huge fan of megaman stuff but he frequently gets names of things wrong in these reviews.
Not to mention that his modelling skills really are quite bad. The nubs he leaves behind are quite bad. If I were him I would be ashamed to show what a messy job I’d done with the kits.
@JRC Don’t despair. you can fairly easily repair most breakages on plastic kits with a little polyvinyl modelling cement, you can get from most hobby stores.
@LBD “Nytetrayn
Actually you did cover it, because I remeber commenting saying that pixel dan should get his facts right before saying anything, because he called the Zero series a spin off???! While if he actually played the games or did his research he should know its part of the story as it takes place 100 years later after the X series. But you did cover it, i just can’t seem to find the article of it here?
@Megafan totally agree, had the same issue with the shoulder, contacted the store, and they gave me another one for free due the inconveniences. I haven’t opened the new one, since I don’t want to broke it again….. and seriously without paint the figure looks bad…at least they should have painted the yellow parts of the chest and white fingers
