Destructoid’s Preview of Mega Man #17 – The Red Raider Arrives
It’s time to get into a new story arch of Archie’s Mega Man series, and if you just can’t stand to be patient, Destructoid has a tasty preview for you. Can’t blame you for wanting to peek either because the comic is finally ready to formally introduce the story of Proto Man.
In this issue we will get to see Proto Man’s creation, and the events leading up to his mysterious disappearance. Furthermore, the issue also covers a side story of a rivalry between Guts Man and Concrete Man, arranging the set pieces for events to occur much further down the line (*cough*Mega Man 9*cough).
However, I think the biggest revelation, this biggest shock of all in this month’s issue, is …
Dr. Wily’s fantastic ponytail.

Looooool xD
Hehehe awesome, looks far better then a skull-et
Skull-et: “bald on top long, hair in the back”
Looks like Chad’s art has improved a bit.
I imagine there will still be people unhappy with it though.
That IS a fantastic ponytail! That is a ponytail that could cut through walls. I’d bet that if Wily did a jumping summersault he’s turn into a sawblade.
@Bob
Yeah on another web site somepointed out Rush’s head looked small, What made me realise Rush was really tiny in that scene given that in the last arc he was the size of Rock give or take or half of Light’s size.
@Bob: You’re not one of them? ;P
Yeah…I think I still like Ariga’s more suave young Wily ten times better…but gotta admit that ponytail is amusing.
Got my copy in today, so here I thought maybe your big revelation was going to be Tabby’s submission being printed in the fanart section this month. ;p (Congrats, Tabs!)
Even though the Concrete tale is too short and really just filler, gotta love Jamal Peppers’ art for it.
@Heat Man
My issues with the Archie comic have more to do with the story telling, not the art work.
I think that the young version of dr light look better than his actual look, LOL xD. But in case of Wily I think that they could use the same style that Ariga use
in any case… his ponytail is so funny xD
Well, let’s not forget–this isn’t as far back as Doc Light and Wily were as seen in Gigamix; they aren’t just starting out. Rather, this is more a short while before Mega Man’s creation, I imagine a decade at the most, and they are already fairly elderly men. So I rather like this actually.
And Wily…who are you to say “looks human besides the hair”? XD You have a freaking ponytail that ends in what appears to be an exaggerated saw blade!
I am loving the writing so far, if nothing else. “I’d say you were taking your love of robotics too far…but then I’d be a hypocrite”. Spectacular.
HOLY CRAP.
Sorry for the double post, but I just realized: The ponytail is a shoutout to ZERO!
Brilliant! He got the ponytail from Wily!
Ah, that issue was AMAZING! Everything was so, so perfect!
Still not how I’d hoped Blues would come by the shades and scarf, but it worked well with the story. Cannot wait for the rest of this arc.
Blues is doing well in hiding his eyes, even without glasses.
Dr. Wily rocks that ponytail. *sagenod*
I see how Zero takes after his creator now.
I spotted a cameo in this issue. In the short chapter where Gutsman and Concreteman were fixing the damn, the little girl wears a similar outfit that another person wears in Megaman ZX.
ZX Advent I meant.
