Capcom’s Christian Svensson Assures that Xover “Isn’t All”

It’s a fact a lot of people have been disappointed in Rockman Xover – I can’t even say I’m excited about it myself, though I’m waiting to see its details. Still, some of you nutty nuts immediately assumed that this would be the only thing commemorating Mega Man‘s 25th, and that Mega Man is dead, and that Capcom stole all of your candy bars in the dark of night. When the question of “is anything else planned?” was brought to Capcom’s Christian Svensson, this is what he had to say:

Yes… but we don’t start until the 25th birthday actually happens (which is in December). Japan has its schedule of things its doing and we’re working on our own things. However beyond that, unfortunately I won’t be able to shed any light at this time. You will just have to wait and see.

Others at Capcom, such have Brelston, have also been saying there’s a lot of planning in the works for Mega Man‘s 25th, and we just need to be patient and stay tuned. I will also personally say this: Don’t worry about it. It doesn’t need to be explained how bad times are for Mega Man lately. But constantly thinking and speculating and hoping about it will probably lead you building up expectations that are too high. Don’t force yourself into a position to be underwhelmed and miserable.

  1. Bob says:

Svensson says many things that end up being exaggerations. I wouldn’t expect much more than some more licensed merchandise.

  2. rockman says:

I don’t have any doubt that Capcom, America and Japan have their fair share of events prepared for the anniversary, in fact Japan is already announcing some stuff (the soundtracks and Xover) but what people want to know is about a new game, no parties, books or music. People has the right to be mad, in a civil way of course.

  3. RaviorStygian says:

I’m pretty sure it’s either going to be a glorified collection or a new game. I don’t think it could be anything else.

  4. Advent Axl says:

He REALLY needs to just cut the bull and tell us something. I hope this is going to be nearly as awesome as LOZ’s 25th.

  5. Mugen Wing says:

“Don’t force yourself into a position to be underwhelmed and miserable.”

You kidding? At this point I have no expectations.

  6. pbe_x says:

capcom for me since died and more with this new game, but on the other hand, megaphilX YouTube user uploaded a new gameplay trailer for their megaman unlimited game, will be a very good game and I was impressed, epic music and all !

  7. MegaManSonicDude says:

    please… Please…. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE…..!!!!

  8. Will says:

Maybe they’ll reveal that Mega Man 9 secret…

  9. Jose says:

Sven you idiot. Quit the excuses and get on with it. No one wants to hear this. Just say it out and that’s it.

  10. Aaron says:

They are planning to unveil Mega Man 11 and Mega Man X9..then cancel them.

  11. Wesker says:

Part of the reason they cannot reveal anything is well…

When they announced megaman legends 3 and then got a whole cast of fans and reached out to them about the game then turned around for no reason and cancelled it,they became the most hated game company ever for killing not 1 but 2 megaman games

They now have to have something solid, capcom is stupid don’t get me wrong but they know if they announced a 3rd megaman game and then it cancelled abruptly again…there would be no salvation people would trash them till they looked blue themselves

    So heres the deal:
Behind the scenes theres no way of knowing how many megaman games behind the scenes were planned and how many of them are cancelled because capcom needs to keep silent until an actual game is done

The problem is since they cant get fan feedback on an upcoming megaman game, its going to suck…this is the new age capcom where they screw up quite often, now that inafune is gone they dont know how to properly make a megaman game or handle the franchise

What should we expect to come?
Probobly some old megaman games already done, maybe a soundtrack,if we were really lucky something like a megaman battle network collection but even then thats putting a lot of faith in them considering they cant do one thing right with the franchise

For the bigger question in general many people want to ask,”Is capcom going to make a new decent megaman game for a console or handheld?”

    The answer is no
I’ll state capcom does not know how to make a good megaman game since the people who made the best megaman games are gone from the company, they will not make megaman legends 3 when inafune offered to do it for free or when cyberconnect 2 offered to make the game, they want to keep making low budget cost megaman games, minimal effort for some quick cash often using recycled bits from older games

This includes things like an Ios port or megaman collections

They also wanna cash out on dlc and digital sales,if they cant put dlc and the game digital they wont wanna spend much a budget on the game,im sorry but the fact is capcom dont make full games anymore and charge the rest as dlc

So with due respect,in truth capcom will not make a new decent megaman game until their sales of other franchises have died down such as streetfighter,Dragons dogma, resident evil, and even monster hunter

With inafunes departure with him no longer making sure his beleoved franshise will hit stores, capcom considers megaman expendable, the only reason some of him still exists is because of a huge fan outcry and because other companies for example archie comics still sees potential for megaman

So yeah i dont expect capcom to make amends in a way that will satisfy us,if anything their pattern only shows they will make things worst

  12. Adaaification says:

    Like i said.

    Megaman 25th Anniversary Collection (Megaman 1 – 10; Megaman & Bass) [WII; PS3; XBOX360].

    Megaman 25th Anniversary Mobile Collection (Megaman World 1 – 5; Megaman & Bass 2) [PS VITA; 3DS].

    Megaman X 25th Anniversary Collection (Megaman X 1 – 8) [WII; PS3; XBOX360].

Then for the IOs, a port of Megaman X2, Xover and maybe 2 new games for the IOs. A port of Megaman 2 and a new game seems possible. These games are quickly made and they don’t cost much.

Then we have Projext X Zone for the 3DS. Maybe a ZX Collection with ZX and ZX Advent for the 3DS. That should it be.

Never thinked about Megaman X9 or Megaman 11 or even Megaman & Bass 3. I see the Megaman & Bass Games as a new series, i think both games of the series played after the classic series.

  13. Megafan says:

Capcom will just announce that theyre starting on Legends 3 again as the 25th. Which we already had going but taken away and now giving it back as the 25th.

  14. McWhalen says:

Who the hell believes Sven? He is just a corporate pawn, nothing more.

  15. I pray that a new Mega Man game that’s not a iOS game. Capcom needs to step it up or else they’ll be “Capgone” in 2013.

  16. RADIX says:

Hey, guys? Is my memory playing tricks on me, or did Capcom, in past years (except the last, of course), properly build up hype for Megaman’s anniversaries BEFORE the actual date?

“After the anniversary” is a bit too late, Sven. I know that two cancelled games in a row can be difficult to recover from, but come on.

  17. Rocky says:

I think they will announce Megaman Online for Europe and US. Since this Xover thing is announced for iPhone iOS with about the same concept.

Or…maybe not and a bunch of soundtracks and collection stuff.

I hope for Megaman Online or even a new Megaman game starring, classic, X or Volnut.

  18. ZeroX_Syaoran says:

I just want a few things:

ONE: A proper and straight answer on the anniversary plans, because really, even Super Sentai did better with their 35th anniversary hype and promotions. Proof: Gokaiger.

TWO: Games. Not stupid iOS games that have the option to skip and stuff. A full fledged game. My suggestions are:

Legends 3, X9, the last Mega Man Classic game, a compilation of every MM game ever, an HD remake of Legends 1 and 2. At the very least, Legends 3.

THREE: This last one will probably never happen. An anime based on ANY saga, or comic. ANY would do.

But yeah, quit stalling Sven and hype it up now! The hype usually comes BEFORE the anniversary comes. Jeez.

  19. Duckaiser says:

It’s for an anniversary, so…Mega Man Anniversary Collection re-release?

  20. erikthered says:

maybe we’ll finally get mega man mania?

  21. Erico says:

Considering it’s been a year since they stomped on our hopes and dreams, another six months is just salt in the wound.

If anyone needs me, I’ll be writing STARFOX Fanfiction.

    -Erico

  22. Phaelin says:

@Erico: Oh God, no, please no, anything but THAT.

I’m going to pick back up my fanfiction writing I think. Churn out something for the 25th.

  23. Model M says:

I really hope its not some kind of collection of old games, I want something new, preferably on a home console.

  24. Can you blame us? With how crappy Capcom has been treating us Mega Man fans, we’d better get the Mona Lisa of video games from them.

  25. Airman says:

Again, until I get the product in my hand, I refuse to show any sign of excitement. This is just the way to deal with Crapcom’s “rumours” lately.

  26. forpeace says:

This will probably never happen but…. maybe they finally have a new console game in the works? I’m just dreaming at this point.

  27. Byte Man says:

    Chris, you lying chucklebutt.

  28. Roll Light says:

    inb4 “I hope it’s legends 3″

  29. Hypershell says:

    I hope it’s legends 3
    (you did it, Roll!)

I think we all knew that XOver wasn’t their entire celebration. What remains to be seen, and what is a great source of tension to most of the fanbase, is if it will be the only *video game* that we will see during that celebration. There will be events, there will be merchandise, there will be a lot of talking. But Mega Man isn’t suffering a shortage of merchandise and kind words; Mega Man is suffering a shortage of whole-assed video games.

Ever since Legends 3 was cancelled, Sven was (rightfully so) beating us over the head with the turnaround time of a decent video game as the reason why he cannot point to any real proof of Mega Man’s continued longevity. And it was only a few months ago that Capcom told us that they were still trying to figure out what exactly they were doing for Mega Man’s 25th. I’d love to be wrong, but I highly doubt Capcom left themselves enough time to meet such expectations by December.

That is, of course, assuming they didn’t decide to release some already finished prologue game from last year that they canned immediately prior to release for absolutely no reason.

  30. Vanya says:

“Isn’t all”? That piece of crap, better not even be counted as part of the 25th anni. That sorry-ass, amateurish excuse for a game should go back from whence it came and bother the spirit of Megaman no more.

  31. Davis says:

they can Tune into Ds nuts for all i care no new Video game no birthday = death sorry thats just how im going to roll out my welcome but all you goody goods can be all you would like and go on to butt hug capcom

  32. Adaaification says:

Just a storyline idea for 2 more Mega Man games that would fit perfectly in capcoms timeline:

    Game 1:
A virus from outer space makes robots on earth violent and extremly aggressiv. Dr. Light sends in Megaman to save people and reduce the damage. At this time Dr. Wily flews from his own tower that is destroyed by his new robot creations, he sends Bass out to conquer his tower back. Protoman decided to help where he can to save as much people as he can. While Megaman destroys one infected robot after the other, Protoman gets infected and turns violent. He attacks the Central Tower, where Mega Man finaly battles him. Mega Man destroys Proto Man in a epic battle. Meanwhile has Bass conquered back Wily’s Tower, but he founds a secret lab where he mets Zero. Zero has became infected to and his battle against Bass destroys the complete Wily Tower. Bass gets hard damaged and teleports to Dr. Light in hope of help. Dr. Light sends Mega Man the Data about Wilys secret robot and gives him the order to take out this robot quickly. Mega Man follows the path of destruction left behind by Zero until he reaches a city who is under attack by Zero. Mega Man’s battle against Zero tears the city apart, but in the end Zero infects Mega Man with the Virus. Mega Man teleports back to Dr. Light, but it’s to late. Mega Man turns violent and the damaged Bass went into battle. Bass overloads his reactor and takes Megaman with him into afterlife.

In the afterschock of the events Dr. Cossack finds a 80% cure program for the virus. Dr. Light finished the prototyp of a robot he simply calls X. He equiped X with a prototype of the Cure Ship, so that X is safe from the virus and can put an end to the war that brings mankind to his annhilation. Dr. Wily tries to get Zero back under control, buts fails.

    Game 2:
Zero has found a way to control other infected robots. His army grows and he lead them against mankind. X is send into war by Dr. Light. X takes out the army of Zero with new Armors Dr. Light creates for him, while the war continues X became a perfect war machine. He eradicates every enemy in his path. After he terminated nearly Zero’s complete army, Zero apperas himself to take down X. The epic battle comes to an end after Zero damaged X badly. But then Wily appears in his flying saucer und rams it directly in Zero how was damaged trough his battle with X. He damaged Zero badly so that he can seal him away, but then Wily dies at his injuries he got from his suicidal attack against Zero.

In the afterschock X was found by Dr. Light and repaired . Dr. Light equips X with a emotion chip that allows X to have feelings and make his own decisions. X decided to bring an end to the virus tread and he swears to take down all infected robots.

  33. megajacobf says:

i hope they release a battle network collection for 3ds which includes all 6(bothversions fo 3-6) and battlechip challenge and the 4.5′s andoperation shooting star…..is that too much?

  34. Samurai Snake says:

    @Adaaification That’s a terrible idea.

    I don’t want a collection of Megaman games. I want a re-release of Legends 1 and 2, Legends 3, Universe. SOMETHING NEW!

Give us a huge Megaman game that bridges the Classic and X series.

Knowing Capcom, they’ll add to their list of disappointments.

  35. Adaaification says:

@Samurai Snake. Why is it a bad idea? It connects the classic with the x series. And in fact, the classic heros are dying somewhere in the timeline in the virus war. Why not make it dramatic? And that a prototyp of x continues the war that Mega Man began seems logical, and wily seals Zero away before he dies. Makes sense.

  36. .:FzX:. says:

And then… Oh boy! Capcom’s grand announcement for the 25th anniversary, Megaman Powered Up! for the iOS keeping the PSP graphics intact with crappy touch controls!

  37. QuartrGuy says:

At this rate, my upcoming Top 50 Robot Masters list will do Mega Man more justice than anything Capcom does.

  38. Axl-fox says:

At this rate Sven is becoming the “Boy who cried Wolf” of the megaman fanbase.

  39. Alex Erdellan says:

IF this is a proper, high production value next gen Megaman, ill cry. I really, really hope they dont disappoint. I’ve been waiting for a new Megaman since I was 15, Im almost 19 now. I wanna be able to play X9 , or Legends 3. Even Command Mission 2

  40. tokyobassist says:

I just want to see a Mega Man game this generation. I really do. A proper one at that. 9 & 10 were awesome but with all the new technology available, I really think that Cyberpunk-ish look of the X series would just mind my mind.
