Fan Game Gives Mega Man 2 Robot Masters Their Day
Should be no surprise that Mega Man fan games continue to garner a lot of admiration and awe. Here is one such fan game. Mega Man: Day in the Limelight 2, brought to you by the same people behind Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, is essentially a rearranged version of the game Mega Man 3. The big twist, however, is that instead of playing as Mega Man, you play as Mega Man 2‘s cast of Robot Masters who have been reprogrammed for good. Considering that both Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 3 are pillars of the series, combining them is a no-brainer.
As you might expect, each Robot Master has his own unique weapon and abilities, and the stages have been arranged to take advantage of those skill sets. At the outset, you must play each stage with a certain Robot Master. When it’s cleared, however, that Robot Master becomes unlocked and free to use any time; you can even switch Robot Masters in mid stage.
I only sampled it a small bit so far, but I was really taken by the new elements. Stages definitely get longer and more challenging, but are never crushingly unfair (maybe a couple cheap enemy placements, though). Truth be told, though, I’m awful at playing platformers with a keyboard.
While the above trailer cites the game as 0.6 beta, the completed version 1.0 was just recently released, and you can grab it here. If you like trying out Mega Man fan games, I definitely recommend it! After all, you can play as Heat Man!
Thanks for passing this along, Rynen10K!

amazing!
Looks like they’re up to version 1.1 already, which has a separate download link: http://fusionfangaming.spriters-resource.com/index.php?topic=36.0
Also a more up-to-date trailer.
Bubble Man was clearly not built to walk around on land.
Time to make a joke of this game with Metal Man.
This looks pretty amazing.
Games like this and the also recently released Rockman 4 MI just prove to me that there are so many things that can still be done in things like these. I love the creativity. Picked DitL2 up a couple of days ago, but I haven’t had the time to play it yet. Looks real fun from what I’ve seen of it.
Bubble Man looks… constipated :/
“Oh God, WHYYY! This is agony! DX”
Yea I already commented them about Bubble Man’s constipated walking on their feedback forum. Or as he puts it, the “crab walk”. Here’s what he says:
“I kept the Bubbleman crab-walking sprites because I thought it added a unique twist on the character’s appearance. He has flippers for feet and according to Megaman Wiki Bubbleman is actually unable to walk at all. It seemed appropriate to have his walking look awkward.”
So I don’t know. Even as crab-walking, it sill looks like he crapped himself.
Ah, the good ole crab-walk. That makes sense then… but now I have to imagine him with a Zoidberg-voice, going “Whooopwhoopwhoop!” while walking.
Did you see when Needle Man grabbed that freakin spike and tossed it?!? Haha this is SICK! I have been dying to play as Air Man!! ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe some people can’t beat Air Man, but now they can play as him.
@Tayo
You called?
Anyway, I can’t wait to start blowing away the third numbers!
also in the forums that WilyNumber13 provided link for, you can see there’s a first game, where you play MM2 levels with the first 6 Robot Masters
awesome games!
This really is amazing! The 2nd Numbers are really fun to control and the creator(s) do an excellent job of integrate their powers into the level design.
Dumb question here, but is this something that can be played with an NES emulator, or is this a browser-only game? I play so few browser games that I know very little about this kind of thing.
@ Thormeister:
It’s a game made in Game Maker. So it’s a downloadable game. NOT a rom for an emulator.
I’m surprised this isn’t getting more attention here. This is a great game and very faithful to the source. The changes made of boss behaviors and level design are excellent.
This game is amazing. Faithful, yet creative. I like how they made each RM distinct, and I love what they did with the Doc robots.
I can’t find the blue thingy in Magnet Man’s revisit stage, though, and it’s driving me nuts.
