Ever Know About This Trick in Mega Man X2?
Posted on August 7th, 2012 by Heat Man
Because Redmage1987 thinks maybe you haven’t. A lot of people know about the old style Batton M-501 in the original Mega Man X that drops loads of 1-Ups. But did you know the Rideroid G in Wheel Gator’s stage does too? You just have to be able to catch it outside of its ride armor.
In the 17 years X2 has been out, I’ll admit I never knew this one. Riding in the armor was too much fun, so I never got a chance!

That’s very interesting, never knew about that
I definitely did not know that one.
Makes me wonder if there is such an enemy in X3 too.
now this is a nice data. I didn’t know this
Never knew about this either, but I knew about the X1 one of course, hm both involve abandoning something that would normally make the stage easier, the mine cart thing and the ride armor respectively.
I’m learning about this only NOW?
If I ever play X2 again, I’ll be sure to keep this in mind.
@Ekkusu:
Wait until X3.
Interesting indeed… if one wanted unlimited lives.
If you’re good at the games, you don’t need more. If you’re terrible, you probably want to collect upgrades and leave the stage by dying…
I guess if you’re just mediocre at the game, then this trick is for you? Personally, I’ve never found it to be to my advantage to have max lives in a mega man game. I really wouldn’t want to farm 1 ups.
Another trick is in Overdrive Ostrich’s stage where if you go up to the part where you would have been after you beat the X-Hunter, go left into a small room. Charge up Morph Moth’s weapon and I believe a bunch of health items appear.
Watch out, gang, erikthered is hot stuff.
I always liked the X1 bat; I liked to imagine it was a former denizen of Woodman’s forest that somehow managed to survive 100+ years.
but…. what’s the point? You shouldn’t need any in the first place.
What a waste of time
Huh, X2 was my first Mega Man game and I played it to death but never noticed this.
Could’ve used it as a kid I’m sure, but nowadays the game isn’t to difficult to blast through.
@matt: Actually, I think you’re referring to an area which requires the hover bike and wheel gator weapon to reach a dead end room. I know because my friend from college showed this trick to me about a year ago when replaying X2, but even he was surprised when a fellow classmate of ours showed us the life energy items appear repeatedly with Morph Moth’s weapon charged again and again. He always thought it happened only once and would have to exit and re-enter the level to fill up the sub tanks. Its amazing to still learn something from old games, although I was not really fond of X2 when I first played it.
@MarthKoopa: Not everyone is good at a game the first time they play it. Hell, I’ll readily admit I died a couple of times trying to beat Storm Eagle first (yes, as in no foot armor).
@Matt
There’s a hidden section in Bubble Crab’s section where you can do the same thing. Hold left on the wall after you get to the grate that the sub opens to go down and you’ll find it.
There’s one in Crystal Snail’s stage for Weapon Energy but who cares about that?
And here I thought I was having a stroke of luck with those 1-Ups U__U
Interesting, but i really dont think you need it. If im not mistaken you get a ton of 1ups in that game anyways. I think bubble crab stag you can extract a bunch charging a bosses weapon i cant remember at this time. It’s been a while.
The Silk Shot Infinite Energy trick is much more useful, but good to know.
@Rock-X
I have the X Collection so I can play them anytime. I learned this stuff pretty recently on my own just from messing around.
@Bob Cool, I didn’t know about those two. I wonder if there are more…
