Kotaku Interviews Flynn on Mega Man/Sonic Crossover

Over at Kotaku, they seem to be well ahead of everyone else when it comes to the upcoming Mega Man/Sonic the Hedgehog crossover by Archie Comics, as they have already conducted an interview with writer Ian Flynn about the True Blue Two.

Among the items addressed are representing two characters shaped by the gameplay and having them work together, SEGA and Capcom’s approval, how this whole shindig gets started, what Flynn hopes to get away with that the game developers never could, and of course, the most important item of all:

Kotaku: Will there be any animal/human kissing in the crossover?
Flynn:
Yes. Hot Amy-on-Wily action. Haha – no, no, none of that.

Check out this link for the interview, plus some cool images of Mega Man with Sonic, Proto Man with Knuckles, and– wait, who’s that with Shadow?!

    I don’t get it. Is it supposed to be a movie, a comic book series, or an actual game? WHAT IS GOING ON?

  2. Vorika says:

    @Rocketscience

    It’s a crossover that’s going to be spread between each comic from both series – Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Universe, and Mega Man.

    And that Bass/Shadow image intriuges me. Is it hinting at an early introduction for Bass, or is it hinting at an out of canon story? Curious!

  3. Archie Comics doesn’t produce movies or games, so…

  4. Hmmm… so could it be that they’ll be introducing Bass early? The plot thickens.

  5. pstart says:

    While it’s a special event, and could take place anywhere in both series’ timelines, it would be a good opportunity to introduce Bass as a new threat created by Dr. Wily (especially since it’s 12 parts!).

    Also, there’s the possibility of the X series getting into the mix here.

  6. I wouldn’t bank on X, if only because matters would be complicated enough as it is, and he may not have had a proper introduction by then.

    If it wasn’t taking four issues of each series that Archie produces, the “anywhere in both series’ timelines” part would make more sense. As it is, though, it would feel a bit abrupt to pull away from whatever is going on that way, in my opinion…

    …it could be done, don’t get me wrong, but might seem a little weird that way.

  7. Mugen Wing says:

    lol, who the hell was asking these kind of questions? Bass is here, comic just got 20% cooler!

  8. Rock-X says:

    @LBD Nyte: Speaking for myself, the “anywhere in both series’ timeline” was what made me NOT seek out the games they were adapting, but that was a different time with a different writer and editor. If done now, I can’t say it would be any different, but I’m sure it would be a lot better than the “Pull away from whatever is going on” approach with BOTH Sonic Adventure adaptations. The first time was the worst (again, speaking for myself) because I let my subscription expire and didn’t touch an issue for half a year, second time I let slide because it was just one issue (but still one issue was too many).

    Regarding the Big budget movie thing (As I’ve said before), I believe that’s supposed to be a metaphor, one that could be set as high as “Superman: The Movie”.

  9. Bob says:

    Well there goes any chance of the Mega Man 7 story being decent.

  10. Rock-X says:

    @Bob: wow, this hasn’t even come out yet, and already you’re going to pass judgement? That is the action of an ignorant fool.

  11. @Bob: Who’s to say that the entire Bass element of Mega Man 7 won’t be pulled off with his introduction, anyway? Just because Bass appears early doesn’t mean that he can’t bring at least his aspect of the story for Mega Man 7 with him.

    Just my thoughts.

  12. Axl-fox says:

    I lost it at “Hot Amy-on-Wily action”

  13. DurffPhones says:

    I’m personally excited about this. I’m finally back into Sonic again since they started making good games again. So I completely welcome this. All the more especially if Spaz is doing the art the whole time. His art for Sonic and especially Mega Man are amazing. Can’t wait to see where this goes. I really don’t understand why people are being butt hurt and freaking out. It’s a comic.

  14. Glitcher says:

    “Flynn: Yes. Hot Amy-on-Wily action. Haha – no, no, none of that.”

    I think Tom Servo slammed something like this on Rifftrax recently. God help us if it ever happens again. Anyway, Sonic is no stranger to crossovers. Remember that special issue where he met up with Spawn? SPAWN! Ho boy, that was trippy. >_<

  15. Rock-X says:

    @Glitcher: That wasn’t a crossover: That was a writer’s attempt at pitching his homemade comic pilot by hijacking a 48 page Sonic Special Issue. The crossover with Image Comics was a cover-up.

  16. Byte Man says:

    Mega Man of Earth…

    …You have the ability to inspire great Hope…

    …Welcome to the Blue Lantern Corp!

    …I’d pay good money to see THAT!

  17. A-Guest says:

    “Flynn: Kudos to Capcom for getting the ball rolling and Sega for being so quick to join in.”

    Wait a minute!

    ****com came up with stuff to that before SEGA did?

    Am I drunk or something?
    That makes no sense.

  18. How does it not make sense for Capcom to be the first to jump into a crossover? They’re kinda known for them, at this point.

  19. MegaSeveN says:

    @Clown Prince of Crime:

    I think because Mega Man’s fanbase is still stuck in the mindset that Capcom doesn’t care about Mega Man so them taking an interest and suggesting something for the comic seems counter-intuitive.

    But I’m kind of hopeful that this year we’ll see mention of some new game. There’s still hope!

  20. Munchy says:

    Why have Amy on Wily when you can have Robotnik on Wily?

  21. Duckaiser says:

    How about Amy and Roll? Sorry…

    Gosh, this seems so cool! I’m really looking forward to this!

    So it starts with Dr. Robotnik and Dr. Wily doing something? Or what? That would make sense, I guess, them messing with stuff.

    I wonder, will the two make a robot together? They could call it…wait for it…Egg Man.

  22. HeatPhoenix says:

    Robotnik and Wily OTP.
    I’m calling it so the fangirls don’t have to.

  23. HeatPhoenix says:

    @LBD_Nytetrayn

    I guess if they’re introducing Bass before Mega Man 7 they can probably introduce X before any kind of X comic, I honestly have no idea. I’m just hoping Super Mega Man appears.

  24. A-Guest says:

    @Clown Prince of Crime

    In fact, MegaSeveN mentioned why it makes no sense to me, why ****com was the first on this one.
    So yeah… I personally excepted SEGA to be the first and kinda force double C.

    @HeatPhoenix

    As Archie Comics is obviously taking every released game in their comics that got released so far, you except X and ZERO to appear during the story arc of MM7 and Power Battle/Fighters.
    They did the same with Protoman in the first comics.

    Seriously, just think about it.
    It would make sense, wouldn’t it? ;)

  25. HeatPhoenix: Let’s just say I have reason to be skeptical, and leave it at that.
