Marvel vs. Capcom Origins Coming to XBLA and PSN in September

While rumors of a new Marvel vs. Capcom game began to circulate last night (only to be denied by Ryota Niitsuma on Twitter), a new truth has come to light today as Capcom has announced the Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network release of Marvel vs. Capcom Origins, a $14.99/1,200 MS Point two-game release containing the original Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes and Marvel Super Heroes.

Capcom Unity notes that “As with last year’s Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition, MvCO comes complete with all manner of graphics filters, dynamic challenges (aka those cool in-game achievements), online play with spectator modes and replay saving.” Plus, the press release notes “GGPO-enhanced online play with 8-player lobbies” as well.

And if you’re attending either EVO or the San Diego Comic Con, you’ll have the first chance to try out the game on the show floor. Until then, you can check out the screens on Capcom Unity.

  1. On a personal level, I’m looking forward to this far, far more than I was MVC2, as I more often tend to play solo, and these games actually have endings for each character.

  2. harpuiazxad says:

    cool!

  3. Bot Marley says:

    Yes!!!! This:

“these games actually have endings for each character.” – LBD “Nytetrayn”

    My sentiment as well. :)

  4. Jose says:

This I agree with. I can’t wait to play with the Blue Bomber all over again. Good times. ^_^

  5. Striderreimu says:

    :D

  6. R.Case says:

    Why?

The two superior Marvel VS games are already out, so why would any one want to buy these?

Capcom blamed SFxT poor sales on over saturation of fighting games, so why are they saturating it more with two more fighting games?

Im not trying to bag on these games I enjoyed them, I still own them, but I just don’t see the point of them at this time.

  7. Jose says:

@R.Case: I think CAPCOM has learned nothing.

  8. Samurai Snake says:

I’m more excited for this than MVC2 and MVC3.

  9. Chris Jericho says:

MVC1 was always better than MVC2 and MVC3. Period.

  10. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

It was an improvement because of two things Gambit and Megaman with endings enough said. Might consider it might not

  11. RedrazerZero says:

I’m just gonna jump on the boat that’s going with MvC is the best out of the three games… Don’t really care about getting this though.

  12. Glitcher says:

But MVC3 had personalised endings as well. What’s wrong with that?

Anyway, I still play MVC1 quite often as I don’t have the hardware for anything else. I defy anyone to take on my Hulk/Wolverine duo.

  13. TheDoctor says:

Woohoo. Another re-release. -_- Wake me up when RE6 comes out.

  14. DaSanSei says:

if mvc is the dreamcast port thatll be great. i love the four way battle

  15. Thormeister says:

    Come on, PSP version!

  16. Glitcher: But it didn’t have Mega Man. ;P

I mean, look at where you are, now…

  17. While I’m glad to have a chance of getting MvC1 now, what I’d like to see is a remake of MvC2 with actual endings and I can see I’m not alone on that.

Wasn’t there another MvC game that came before these two? I think it was just X-Men and Street Fighter though. If that’s the case, why is that not a part of this package? It’s still part of the series.

  18. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

    @KK the Prophet

    The Sarcastic Answer:

    Capcom and brains thats why…

    My true Answer:

I remember X-Men and Streetfighter being one of the few crossover fighting games just don’t remember its been a very long time since anyone mentioned that game.

  19. Heat Man says:

I actually don’t think I’ve played the original MvC… Well, not outside of getting sprites from it. I might have to grab this.

  20. pstart says:

MvC 1 is amazing. Can’t believe all the hate this is getting!

The game gave Mega Man his own personalized victory jingle how cool is THAT.

  21. RedrazerZero says:

    @KK the Prophet
There’s… X-Men Children of Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter, MvC, MvC 2, MvC 3, UMvC 3 and some special editions of some of those games in some regions… For the question of why they are not released with this… ?..

  22. A-Guest says:

As I huge fan of the first MvC, I’m thinking about to buy the PS3 port now.

Then again, you can easily get it for PSX and personally, I actually didn’t wanted to buy anything from ****com again, as long as those fools get their butts up and change their company policy just as the way they treat the Rockman/MegaMan brand.

On the other hand, MvC1 has MegaMan and it was fun to play.
    Damn, that’s a hard one.

  23. @R.Case: Superior? MvC2 isn’t superior to anything. It was a shoddy copy and paste job with no soul. Ya, it had a crapton of characters, but the game itself is just slapped together and completely lacks polish and presentation.

For me, MvC1 will ALWAYS be better than MvC2. ALWAYS.

Anywho, I’m really looking forward to this release! The only thing that disappoints me is that they didn’t include X-Men: Children of the Atom, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, and Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter. Otherwise, I’m pretty hyped.

And is that a remix of Captain America’s theme I hear at the start? Could it be, then… that this release will also feature AN ARRANGED SOUNDTRACK?!! :D

  24. Ghalheart says:

    @ Clown Prince

An arranged soundtrack to this game would completely rock my world. I LOVE the soundtrack to Marvel vs Capcom.

  25. Wave says:

it’d be so nice if they release this for VITA too :( sigh.

  26. INSERT COIN says:

    LET’S GO PAYDAY!!!

  27. Maetch says:

    @A-Guest

The PSX version of MvC1 is crap. You can’t even switch characters at will in it.
