25th Anniversary E Can Loaded with Music

If there’s one thing Mega Man fans can’t get enough of, it’s music. Lucky for the fans, a can of music is coming to sate your thirsts!

The “Rockcan” comes in a steel E-Tank tin, and includes a full color booklet. There will be 10 discs and they cover music from the Mega Man games 1 through 10. Rockman 1-6 has both the Famicom and Playstation tracks. Furthermore, according to Ucchy-san, the music is being remastered using the original sound sources. Curiously, Rockman 9 and 10 cite the Xbox Live Arcade versions as their sound source. And also a bummer, but to be expected, Rockman 8‘s source is the PS edition, so don’t look forward to Cut and Wood’s bonus themes.

This collection is going to cost ¥14700 and set to release on September 19th. However, it’s going to be an E-Capcom exclusive. So, fire up those eBay accounts, friends.

I gonna be honest, they put zero effort into it and is too expensive.

  2. MarthKoopa says:

Why are the best things so expensive? It seriously shouldn’t cost much to print a dozen CDs and put them in a painted can….

  3. PlaguedOne says:

As much as I love Megaman music, I already have all of that. Try a game, Capcom.

  4. Lumine1412 says:

Well, judging from everyone’s reaction, it’s safe to say that I am going to bag this item easily
Considering I have spent almost 2K on Touhou CD stuffs just this year, this is just gonna be another weeks of instant noodle to my wallet

  5. Cherryko says:

Over priced re-release? That’s pretty weak. If this were something like 10 discs of remxies and arrangements I’d consider the steep price as plausible. I already own the physical OST discs so I can just take a coffee can and paint it myself. =P This would be such a let down if this turns out to be the big 25th anniversary project… but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt here. This IS the company that made Megaman X afterall so I’ll remain hopeful. =D

  6. j04353 says:

I’d buy it. I just want to see what we’ll get over here in the west.

  7. I CAN”T BUY IT!!!
    too expensive

  8. Bandit says:

I didnt know cds were still popular :/

  9. Striderreimu says:

I have all these tracks already
    Give us a game instead!

  10. DurffPhones says:

Now that you’ve seen this, go check out Street Fighter’s 25th anniversary set… =__= This is ridiculous… I’m a huge fan of owning soundtracks but this really disappoints me. :/

  11. TheMaverickk says:

Yeah sorry…. this is clearly kind of a rip off product.

I love Mega Man music, but seriously. I know how much it costs to produce the discs for this collection.

Also the music is already been paid for essentially with the money that’s been made over the last 25 years being in the games that have been sold.

So I mean to pay $200 for a collector can with fancy printed discs is sort of yeah….. not interested. I’ll take the D-Arts Mega Man X figures for $50 thank you.

  12. Skybane_Zero says:

So it looks like that -is- the real 25 Anniversary logo, then. Hmm…

  13. Megaman Lance says:

    Wooow!!!! *.*

  14. KGN-004 says:

If they are going to go through the trouble of remastering, why remaster for dumb old Redbook CD audio? It’s time to retire this old crappy format already, damn it. Though it really wouldn’t matter for the NES/SNES stuff. It wouldn’t hurt, though.

Hopefully we’ll get a good sounding release for 1~7 now. As we know, the past official CD releases for those games were terrible atrocities.

Also, the past CD releases of 9 and 10 had lossy compressed audio, like in the game itself. And since they are using those game streams as their source, and since the past CD releases had those same lossy tracks, I guess III made the original masters like that to begin with? Why? Yeah it probably wouldn’t have made much difference, considering it sounds like chiptunes, but still. Makes me mad. Having uncompressed originals would have come in handy for projects like this.

  15. Roll Light says:

    >Music that can easily be packaged
    >Sold in a plastic E-tank to try and make it sell.

How’s about a game Capcom. Seriously is this how you treat your flagship mascot.

  16. KGN-004 says:

    @Light

    It’s a steel can.

    l2read

Also, “remastered” audio. Not just the exact same stuff again. Though this could actually be a bad thing, depending.

  17. rockman says:

This new bit of info about the remastered music sound better now. But how this will make a difference in the 8-bit music?.

  18. KGN-004 says:

    @rockman

Well, for one, they could do it proper this time, and not make it sound like they recorded it by holding a cheap tape recorder up to a TV speaker. Have you head the official CD release of the 1~6 NES music? That’s what it sounds like. It’s awful.

A lot of the time they release old chiptunes on CD they’ll add a bunch of filters and effects that just end up making it sound like ****.

Hopefully the do a better job this time around.

  19. KGN-004 says:

Hopefully they do a better job this time around.

  20. Roll Light says:

    @KGN-004
Oh no god forbid I make a mistake
remastered music is still **** though

  21. RADIX says:

Nothing we haven’t heard before AND it’s overpriced?

If this were a compilation of every song ever attached to Classic MM and its alternate continuities, then I could understand them charging ~$185 for it; as it is, this stinks of “cash grab”. And I really don’t want to say that about our first (second, if you count MegaRan’s 5th anniversary album) real 25th anniversary-related item…

  22. KGN-004 says:

    @Light

Yes, those remasters you haven’t even heard yet sure are ****.

    Idiot.

  23. Schnoy says:

Dang, why has it to be so expensive. I would buy it if either it wasn’t so damn expensive OR if it would contain EVERY OST from EVERY MegaMan series for the exact same price as it is now.

  24. A-Guest says:

That must be the most life spending E-Can we will ever see.

Then again, no money to buy it :<

  25. NONAME says:

Judging by the comments here, there aren’t too many people who care if they ever make any more Megaman games or not.

I hope everyone realizes that if you don’t buy this, it will give Capcom yet another reason to believe that Megaman doesn’t sell and isn’t worth making.

Who cares if it is a bit more expensive than what you usually purchase, it is for a good cause.

And anyone who wants to argue with these facts very likely has no interest in ever seeing a new Meaman game.

  26. RADIX says:

@NONAME: Actually, most of the people miffed over this DO want a new MM game, myself included.

The thing is, there’s nothing in this E-Can that we haven’t heard before. Even if there was more to this, most of us simply can’t afford it (and given Capcom’s recent actions, it’s unlikely that buying this would save the series). And it feels suspiciously like a mere cash grab.

Put some thought into the issue before you shame those you don’t agree with.

  27. aquila0109 says:

What’s this? Capcom releasing an over-priced, half-assed product? Who would have guessed?

  28. Daniel Lind says:

    I guess they decided
    (•_•)
    ( •_•)>⌐■-■
    (⌐■_■)
    to can the franchise.

  29. Phaelin says:

@NONAME: Capcom is not a fundraiser. Each non-game product they sell is certainly meant to make them money, but there is no other end-game beyond that. They are not making the money to see if fans would buy another game, they are not making the money to put towards another game.

They are making the money to make the money.

There is nothing wrong with that, of course. If the product is good, I’d buy it. However, I have no interest in pithy collections of music I already own. If you would like to buy this music collection, be my guest.

Do not make the mistake of thinking it is somehow a pledge.

  30. stealth woman says:

Wow, thanks capcom! ok, where’s our real 25th anniversary item? you know? that thing they said they’d talk about in december? :\

  31. Rock-X says:

@KGN-004: “recorded it by holding a cheap tape recorder up to a TV speaker” Hmm, are you by any chance referring to the Rockman bootleg collection that’s been around since the early days of Napster (1999) ? If so, I understand what you mean but the one done by Capcom in 2002 beats that by miles. For those not in the know, the bootleg version of Dark Man’s & Proto Man’s whistles are ear-splitting terrible compared to the official release. That’s all you need to know.
@Danial Lind: I don’t care if its okay by the mods, I don’t get the reference and would label it as spam in an instant (especially since they’ve been posted on every youtube video weeks before the “Arrow to the Knee” spamming began). Just a bit of fair warning from me.

  32. stealth woman says:

This is totally an insult to megaman fans. It’s like they’re trying to get us to hate their products so they can disown the franchise! Capcom, what are you doing?

Street fighter’s getting a WAY bigger piece of the pie! their anniversary is godly and they decide to throw an overpriced e tank at us with 10 cds… outrageous…

  33. KGN-004 says:

    @Rock-X

No, I’m talking about the official one from 2002. My saying “official CD release” should have told you that.

Listening to the nsf rips through most competent emulators beats the 2002 Capcom release by light years.

You know what other awesome game with awesome chiptunes had a super terrible official CD release? Pokemon Red/Blue. Super saturated with reverb. Sounded like someone playing it in a vast cave.

  34. Cutmang says:

I bet Kenzo Tsujimoto is laughing at us from Tokyo in his swimming pool of yen right now.

  35. stealth woman says:

All things considered, it’s not totally bad. I mean, look at that e tank. It’s a good cosplay item. Also, since this is a japan only e-capcom exclusive, you know it’s not the only thing they’re going to offer. This year. I know we’re definitely not getting a game or the uncancellation of legends 3 but we’re definitely going to get more than this.

  36. Dr. Jerk says:

We may have gotten plenty of OST releases by now, but I have to admit, this is still definitely one of the better RM merchandise I’ve seen in awhile.

  37. SketchMan3 says:

Okay, soo… the average reasonable CD release, let’s say it’s $13. Just add up how many CD’s are in the can, multiply it by 13 and see if it’s actually overpriced or we’re just acting like entitled brats.

I’m too lazy to do it.

  38. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

Is it safe to say that I should just walkaway… Is this really the 25th anniversary item we’ve been hearing about? I think for the most part its for those who don’t have the tracks ,but for those who already have the music via whatever means I don’t say this is worth the money if you already have it. Other than that I think the can looks cool. If they sold just the can I’d buy it for the satifaction to store my wine or beer cans in if anything.

  39. Gamma says:

    No worries!

It’ll be canceled before the release!

  40. harpuiazxad says:

@Gamma Haha good one! xD… but I don´t think it be so bad :D

  41. NONAME says:

In a matter of speaking, purchasing every product with the name on it is something good to do at this point. A dying series can only be revived if there is a enough evidence to support that the namebrand will sell.

When PSP Legends 1 and 2 were released they were testing to see if that series could sell. Whether or not it can as a series, the two PSP ports did not sell because many fans thought ports are lazy and there is no need to purchase them. Despite that, Inafune eventually got his way into getting Legends 3 into production, which was eventually cancelled because Capcom has no reasonable evidence that the series would sell.

Pretty much impossible, especially with this crowd, but if those music CDs sold a million copies, Capcom would realize that the namebrand sells, which would give them a reason to make at least something new Megaman.

Series often go for two games without hard evidence of sales, after that they need solid sales to stay alive.
Since we have no new Megaman games to purchase, we can only rely on a bunch of CDs, Dot Straps and X-series figures and perhaps some comic books to show Capcom that the series will still sell.

Put simply, you can tell someone to try harder next time, but often that just makes someone not want to try anymore.

  42. Bassnium says:

C’mon guys, lighten up. Not everyone knows this site exists and others still will buy it as proof of being the loyalest of fans.

The release of the Complete Works set is a welcome sight, and if nothing else an official Capcom release of 7 & 8 should justify this purchase. Just let the new fan with nothing to lose handle this; this is what the package caters to, after all.

Personally, though, I just hope the booklet tells us who composed what for CW and 7.

PS. TEAM Entertainment is also making 25th Anniversary Edition Rock [KDSD-00580] and Techno [KDSD-00581] albums, so look forward to that if nothing else :)

  43. Daniel Lind says:

    @Rock-X
    Dude, it’s a pun, relax.
Better take this situation humorously than cry doom and gloom.

  44. RADIX says:

@NONAME: And just how are you so sure that Legends PSP was a test, and not just a re-release?

For that mater, how do you know that Capcom won’t shelve the games because the merch made them more money than the games ever could? Ever consider that they’re first and foremost a business, and that sometimes they just put things out to make money?

Also, if you were referring specifically to fans in the US when talking about those Legends ports…they weren’t released in the US and I don’t know if imports contribute to a game’s sales.

  45. Rock-X says:

KGN-004: “Listening to the nsf rips through most competent emulators beats the 2002 Capcom release by light years….You know what other awesome game with awesome chiptunes had a super terrible official CD release? I see what you’re saying, and yet I completely disagree with regard to the Official release. You say its recorded from a TV speaker on a cheap tape recorder, but I’m telling you, it sounds crystal clear compared to the other collection I have from 1999.

  46. DuoDynamo says:

    180 dollars? Seriously?

  47. SketchMan3 says:

I appeal to you once again: ADD IT UP! Multiply those numbers and see if it’s not worth 180 bucks. I mean… didn’t they post about some sunglasses that were 100+ bucks?
