Mega Man Fan Games Come Out to Play

When Capcom doesn’t deliver, it appears that Mega Man‘s fans are more than willing to pick up the slack.

That seems to be the message being delivered loud and clear today as we’ve received tips for not one, not three, but two new fan games currently in development. The first one comes to us via a tip from Ferin, and is the revival of a project known as Mega Man Revolution:

As far as we can tell (what we’ve seen does not definitively say one way or the other), this is not a ROM hack, but an original game made from the ground up for the PC. It is designed to emulate the style of the NES games, and even includes the option to turn on sprite flicker and slow down, much like Mega Man 9 did. To learn more about this game, visit Fifth Independent.

The other game we’ve been told of comes to us via a tip from Dashe of Mega Man Legends Station. Rather than create a new adventure for the Blue Bomber of the world covered in endless water, Station member fAB and Blyka of Blyka’s Door have taken a different approach by crafting a tale featuring a character you might have forgotten about– that is, if you knew him at all. Check out the following progress video:

On the website for “Tuttle’s Legendary Travels,” they note that the project is in its early developmental stages, and state “[t]he finished game aims to be a full 3D platformer on par with the official games of the series in terms of quality and scale. This ambitious project will take time to unfold and we want all you Mega Man Legends fans out there to follow its progress as it happens and join in the development process in various ways.”

Dashe adds that there will also be community contributions in the style of the Mega Man Legends 3 Project’s Devroom, and that “[t]hese guys are incredibly reliable when it comes to designing Legends fangames and already have a bunch of quirky minigames at the Sky Pirate Arcade, located at arcade.legends-station.com (along with Legends fangames created by external contributors, too–submissions are open on a continual basis).”

For more information on the project, be sure to visit the “Tuttle’s Legendary Travels” website.

As Mega Man‘s 25th anniversary draws ever closer, we don’t know what plans– if any– Capcom will reveal to mark the day. But, so long as fans such as these are willing to take matters into their own hands, it appears there will always be a place for the Blue Bomber in the arena of interactive entertainment.

    A toast to the fandom

    @LuegosiLives
    It’s called MMBN Chrono X

  4. Rock-X says:

    @LugosiLives: Battle Network Chrono X started out as Battle Network 7, but through constant changes is still one in spirit: Also, Chrono X is NOT a game hack as one anonymous poster on Protodude’s Blog found out the hard way. Megaman Revolution certainly has my attention: the look feels genuinely retro like 9, unlike the other one with the oversized Smoke ManMuscle boss.
    This Tuttle’sLegendary Travels I can see as showing promise, and I’m not saying that just because it gave me a visual 3d depiction of the Aero design I voted for. I admit I have no clue who this Tuttle character is and others aren’t either, but I wish these guys luck in getting this game off the ground.

  5. Wilyman says:

    Wow that fangame looks awesome! It appears you can play as Bass or Megaman, Bass has his double jump and multi directional shooting abilities and Mega uses the mega arm! and there is already a demo with like four robot masters!!

    Yes! To the fans who help keep Mega Man alive and well….I proudly raise my glass to you!

    @gutsmann004 and Sinclair

    A smile a day makes things better when you know fans will do things the big boys won’t do. I raise my glass to you in health and creativity flow like a font of inspiration for others to follow.

    Tuttle was a digger you could talk to in the misadventures of tron bonne starting with the second aurora stones mission. The guy is in reality a total dramtic joke ,but he is awesome in ways that just make you wonder what inspired to make this character. Though he is missing his cane it seems ,but thats minor. For more videos go look up some let’s play of the game or Legends Station has to learn about the Legendary Tuttle. Tuttle… LOL

    Still I give these guys credit to bring out Tuttle in this light.

    While the enthusiasm for the project by its creators is evident, the game itself doesn’t look that good to me. The level design just seemed kind of odd to me, in the 4 minutes or so of it that I decided to watch. It seemed hard for the sake of hard in a couple places. That’s just my initial impression though.

  11. Phaelin says:

    Only shooting enemies when they are in the light? No me gusta. >:|

  12. Phaelin says:

    Addendum: I will say, though, that despite the bugs in the Revolution demo, it was great fun to play through nonetheless. Any Mega Man is better than no Mega Man.

    Those stages are just killing me. D:

  13. N-Mario says:

    I’ not sure whether to be surprised or not. But we still have Phil’s MegaMan Unlimited, which was not mentioned on this post (but I’m sure it was mentioned earlier in February)., and I am currently working on a MegaMan Mania GB game with a friend. Though it’s still in heavy development, but you think it’s worth a mention? :)

  14. 8BIt-Hero says:

    Just throwing this out there, Megaman X Corrupted!!!
    It has been in development for years, but the creator assures that it will be finished. It is flash based and it was rumored to be released as a download. You can check out the game on Youtube. JKB Games is the entity behind its development. On the flip side Megaman Revolution looks solid. Great job!

  15. Omar says:

    Yeah I’d love to make a game, but I don’t have a single idea how to code or stuff, which makes my art pretty useless.

  16. Ghostman says:

    I somehow always thought I’d have a cooler-looking stage. :p
