NeoWiz Restructuring Leads to Rockman Online Worries

Given the rather slow updates with Rockman Online in the past year, there has been some speculation of the game’s health. However, today an article from Digital Times is beginning to substantiate those fears.

According to the article, Korean developer NeoWiz is undergoing restructuring and planning to reduce its workforce on PC games – specifically, it will reduce its development staff from 300 to 50 people, and focus more on mobile games.

The article says of the game Rockman Online, which has already exhausted a lengthy development time, that NeoWiz is considering transferring development of the title to an affiliate company, GAMEON Studio. However, it’s also thought that there’s a possibility Capcom will chose to cease development on Rockman Online after negotiations for the game’s fate.

I will make clear that the game is not officially cancelled as of now, but it’s understandable to see that the future is looking poor. We may have never even gotten to play Rockman Online in the West, but it was looking like a really interesting game regardless.

We’ll keep you posted on further developments.

Seems like this is the trend with Mega Man games now…tons of hype at first then the news slows down until cancellation. After the sick anime trailers and interesting game play videos, I am disappointed. I love Mega Man, but I always questioned if there was enough of an audience for this game to deem it worhty of the development costs.

Bye Bye RMO, you will not be missed!

Who are missed is *bleep* people like yours *snipped*

reducing workforce from 300 to 50…. and wasting focus on phone shovelware? sounds like the company is trying to kill itself. :P

In all honesty, Capcom just does not care for the Megaman series anymore, and could careless about us fans, although it maybe harsh to say but it is the truth, we already seen 2 Megaman games cancelled, if I were Capcom I would just give Megaman right back to Keiji Inafune or with a better company. I sure hope this game doesnt get cancelled.

This doesn’t really surprise me. Of the three, this one seemed like the game most likely to be potentially canned. Then you factor in that it wasn’t going to be released overseas to begin with, and yeah.

Still, give me some good gaming news about Mega Man one of these days, Capcom. You’re not exactly doing this series any favors here. Basically, it’s all Archie right now for positive Mega Man news.

  5. Oops, I probably shouldn’t have said that O_O

missing only that, coming from Capcom was not surprising, it’s a shame they want to get rid of megaman that’s not fair

Since the news starting coming in much slower and the absence of this game at the most recent G-Star, this was definitely expected. I suppose the next step is for it to be cancelled, which would be very much unfortunate. Of course, this is NeoWiz’s issue and not really related to Capcom so any pitchforks raised at them again would be unwarranted in this case.

However, until this game is officially announced as dead, I’ll just keep my chin up about this whole thing and Megaman as a whole. After all, you never know what’ll happen until it happens, right?

    Honk……

Oh well, back to fan games i guess.

Capcom is probably killing Mega Man. That’s my opinion. I mean, they give us awesome trailers (that warrant an anime series bridging the Zero series and X/Classic and X) and interesting gameplay, then they go ahead and cast some doubts on the game. I see the similar pattern here: Hype, Development, Casting of Doubt (like many months of no news, or news of not being greenlit, and etc.), and Eventual Cancellation.

    Bah, humbug Capcom. Bah, humbug.

I dont care as long as i see this before I die

Mega Man’s dead, everyone. Let me do my job and help him pass into the next world so Capcom can’t try to resurrect him with their vile necromancy.

this is what happens to megaman games now. albeit this looks cool but seriously capcom. its bad when ur fans do a better job of keeping megaman alive than u do.
