Mega Man 5 to Hit European Virtual Console Thursday
Nintendolife reports that Mega Man 5 will be hitting the Wii Virtual Console this Thursday, March 29th. The NES classic that introduced us to Beat, the Super Arrow and that weird Rush Coil variation will cost 500 Wii Points.
While we wait on both sides of the Atlantic for news from Capcom regarding re-releasing more games, here’s hoping that the time between releases drops below the nine months our friends in Europe had to wait!
Here’s the official press release:
Proto Man, once the trusted brother of Mega Man, has mysteriously gone berserk, kidnapping Dr Light; forcing Mega Man to go on the offensive. Assisted by his new sidekick Beat, a robotic bird, and his faithful robo-dog Rush, Mega Man must battle through eight thrilling levels and defeat the Robot Masters lurking within. Defy gravity in Gravity Man’s stage, chip away the defences in Stone Man’s stage, and catch some surf in Wave Man’s stage – all before the final showdown of the century.

I am waiting for Mega Man 6 & 7 to get released on the VC in the US and for Rockman 5 & 6 to get released on the PSN in the US!!!
And Mega Man X2 and X3!!!
You guys in Europe have it made now. Download this, and you will need no other games. Ever.
On that note, this game also gave us the first Ride Chaser stage in any Mega Man game. You can’t beat that.
Hmm, at this rate, we might actually see the long awaited first PAL-region release of MM6…
Maybe.
On WiiU.
In two years.
Ah, my first true Mega Man game. *memories*
MM5, the Avengers movie, you PAL folks are getting some good stuff early.
Yeah but you NTSC guys got the Megaman Anniversery Collecton, the Megaman X Collection and Megaman 64, as well as a bunch of Non-Rock games so count yourselves lucky
we will never get to play The Power Battle nand Power Fighters :’(
@Blue Bombers Cousin: The secret is a simple Freeloader Disc. Import the Collections, buy the newest Freeloader Disc from Amazon and play the Collections on your WII or your GAMECUBE. It dosent matters. It works fine and its legal, i do it the same way.
I have Megaman Legends 1 + 2 for the PSX, so i dont need Megaman 64. I dont know ive there any difference between this games, maybe someone can give me info.
But it is nice that Capcom release the Original Series Game by Game on the Virtual Console. I hope they release Rockman & Forte for the VC, the GBA one sucks big way because of the small screen.
Interesting how the later PAL boxarts have the American art + more Japanese eyes.
And then… there’s the PAL MMZ artwork.
@Adaaification: yeah i know about Freeloader Discs but it just aint the same with all the big companies take less interest in Europe and (more importantly) Australia and then theres’s the R18 rating that we might only be getting soon that Americans have had for years
so please count yourselves lucky…
@Blue Bombers Cousin: Lucky? The most games or videos here came out cut. This sucks big time. Just my opinion.
But i can understand your point. The most videogame publishers dont take the risk to publish good games uncut in germany, because the BPJM cuts them down or they forbidden the games completly. I dont know how the situation in australia is, sorry im not from there. But here in germany it is hard to get a good game uncut.
That dosent counts for the Blue Bomber, because Capcom is more orientated to the American and Japanese video gaming scene. But back to topic.
Since I was pretty angry last year when Mega Man 5 hit the Japanese and the American Virtual Console (and don’t forget, it was around the same time when Capcom announced the cancellation of Legends 3), I’m really happy now that the game finally arrived here (especially because MM5 was one of the games I missed back then).
@Adaaification:
The BPJM does not cut games, it’s the game developers/publishers which cut the games themselves to make sure they won’t be indexed or forbidden in Germany. And in case you want to get uncut games, I’d recommend you to import them from Austria, since Austria uses the PEGI system which is not legally binding like the USK and thus, the games for the Austrian market (which are also PAL and thus, German) are pretty much never cut.
Aside from Rockman & Forte, I hope Nintendo will add the Sega Saturn to the VC sortiment (either on the Wii or perhaps the Wii U) so we might get Mega Man 8 and X4-X6. While I happen to own the X Collection, I’d be curious about the differences between the PS1 and Saturn-Versions of the latter.
