Maverick Hunter X Confirmed as PS Vita Compatible in North America
For those of you looking forward to the PlayStation Vita, SCEA has confirmed which PSP games from the North American PlayStation Store will be compatible at launch. Among them is Maverick Hunter X, the only Mega Man related downloadable PSP release outside of Japan. That doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t be able to play other Mega Man PSP titles: The catch is that they’re only available on the Japanese PS Store, where all of them are compatible with the PS Vita.
SCEA has confirmed that they will be adding more games to the North American list of compatible games in the future, but that still requires the release of Mega Man: Powered Up on the store. That aside, take note that PSOne Classics and by extension PSOne Imports are not yet compatible with the PS Vita. That means you won’t be able to play the four Rockman games currently available in North America.
If you want to check up on the full list of North American games, check here. For the Japanese list, check here.
Thanks for the tip, rockman!

Sweet.
Then Cool dude
Oh, these tipsters and their vague user names!
I found the american versions to be superior in my occidental opinion. Usually, our version got stripped of many features, like voice acting. On the psp, it was not the case, making the english voices (thanks, Mark Gatha) a good choice. The same I would say from Powered Up, I liked it better than RockmanRockman. So, In my case, I wouldn’t donwload the japanese version; I hope they release the american one.
Let’s hope they release the PS1 versions of Mega Man 5 and 6 before all is said and done.
I don’t care if it has PSP graphics, I wish you could download MMMHX to your PS3 and play it there. My PS3 NEEDS some X action! I also wanna try playing as Vile.
I’m happy to own a PSP2000 and to play Powered UP and Maverick Hunter X on it without being worried about such a thing as compatibility.
Rather, I’m pissed that they still haven’t released PU for download and gave the PS3 the ability to play PSP games, otherwise I possibly wouldn’t even need the PSP that much anymore.
Perhaps they do so in future but even if not so, I still wait for price drops on the new devices, means no Vita for me right now.
I hope they make Powered UP compatible at some point.
They could have released it, but they used some excuse like it won’t work in digital format. Which is BS because I have a hacked PSP and I ripped it from the UMD and put it on a Memory Stick just fine.
@Tornado Man
Actually, I already noted that all of the PSP Rockman games are on the Japanese store and all of them are compatible. Rockman Rockman, Irregular Hunter X, and both DASH games work on the Vita.
Meh.
What? You can’t play PSOne classics on the Vita?! Smooth move, Sony. You finally release a portable that can actually make more PSOne games work on it with the second analog stick, and you can’t play them on there.
It just gives hackers more of a reason to hack.
@rockmace
Mark Gatha is the shiz. He’ll probably never voice X again unfortunately. He’s a doctor in Nova Scotia now. To me, he will forever be the voice of X. Same goes for Lucas Gilbertson. On another note, I wonder why he wasn’t called on to voice Zero in MVC3?
YAAAAAA!!!!!!! WOOOOOHOOOOOO!
Oh wait, I don’t fing care about PSvita.
@TheDoctor
Sony has already said that Games Archive (PSOne Classics, Neo Geo, MSX games in Japan) aren’t compatible as of yet, but will likely pop up in the future. I get the feeling it’s because they didn’t have enough time to test them before launching the system.
That’s pretty much the biggest problem with any backwards compatibility. The more legacy systems you try to support, the more you need to invest in actually testing those systems’ games. Keep in mind that they literally need to make a PSOne emulator since Games Archive/PSOne Classics are essentially disk images of the retail game.
@Lance
Yes, you did. I was saying what Sven told us on the Ask Capcom Forums.
Why would anyone want to play that abomination of a game?
i wish i could transfer my umd disk to the vita
oh well i wait for it to be cheap so i could download it for the vita but if the original X coming out for 3ds i’m saving my money to get the 3d version
@MarthaKoopa
Explain.
@Model M
Don’t mind him. He’s the resident negativity magnet on our news comments. He’s also our resident Maverick Hunter X hater, among other things (read: everything) that he hates.
@Tornado Man
I completely forgot that Sven addressed Powered Up’s absence. That doesn’t mean we can lose hope in its future release, though!
@Model M
Bad 3D graphics, butchered music (Techno? are you kidding me? I am seriously shocked that they managed to make the best soundtrack of all time into an utter abomination), and bad handheld screen size
I really don’t know how one can like chiptuned music but not like techno… *shrugs*
That aside, I regard the SNES X1 as superior on account of the fact that MHX seriously nerfed the buster capsule. And yeah, while the environments are lush and colorful, the character models are BAD (honestly they look like they belong in a DS game), the redesigns are questionable, and the dialogue mugshots ignore X’s armor, something that really pulls you out of the game (continuing Yoshikawa’s pattern of laziness as it started with X8).
Still, the Gatha/Gilbertson combo (Sorry, Johnny, Lucas is THE voice of Zero to me), playing as Vile, and The Day of Sigma make it worth a look. That and I actually think the soundtrack was pretty awesome, but then there are very few X-series soundtracks that I would ever call bad (Xtreme1, that’s pretty much it).
