Cover and Solicitation for Archie’s Mega Man #13 (Update)
Extra! Extra! Read all about it!
No sooner than we post an interview with Ian Flynn discussing the prospects of post-Mega Man 2 events and original stories than we get a brand new cover and solicitation for the first issue following the return of Dr. Wily. And does this ever appear to break from the norm, as we seem to be getting a look at several of the elements spoken of during that exchange.
Here are the details we have, and click on the cover to your right in order to see a full-sized version.
“(W) Ian Flynn (A) Gary Martin & Various (CA) Patrick Spaz Spaziante
‘Spiritus ex Machina,’ Part 1. Mega Man joins Dr. Light at the Advanced Robotics Trade Show to address the future of thinking machines. New faces abound – who are Drs. Cossack and Lalinde? What sinister forces lurk behind the scenes? Meanwhile, Dr. Wily searches for something to give him the edge deep in the forbidden Lanfront Ruins. All this plus the debut of Rush!”
Thanks for the tip, Sockie!
Edit: Thanks to Merricks, we now have a much larger view of the cover; check it out below, and click to enlarge.

Super Adventure Rockman references already? I’m surprised, considering we have yet to deal with MM 3 materials.
The rest of it… I think I’ll wait until it comes out before commenting.
Didn’t Flynn literally in the last post on this website claim the next story would be an original world-building arc? And yet we have Super Adventure Rockman…
I’d say wait and see where it goes. Maybe he’s planning on tying a bunch of the alien stuff together, sort of like Ariga did.
Did anyone else notice Emerald Spears? Total Ruby-Spears reference!
Dr. Light in love with someone?
Scandalous!
Emerald Spears? Oh, those clever rascals. Next, Mega Man will face off against the dreaded Dreamtide gang. They’ll probably whiff.
“All this plus the debut of Rush!”
BARK, BARK
@Dr, Jerk: super scandalous…
and they’re being off the track… having multiple chars that we dont know… jeeezzz… its being too corny now.. i thought its all about megaman and how he protect the world(?) not those new character sissies…
@RayZX: At some point, they have to delve into the mythos of Mega Man. You can only go a short way with the usual Mega Man formula.
(@Bob) I’m pretty sure this isn’t going to be a SAR adaptatioon, but just set-up for one. And it’s not like “original world-building arc” instantly means “everything original in this story! Nothing from the games whatsoever!” What about stuff like Dr. Lalinde and these “Emerald Spears?”
LOVEITLOVEITLOVEITLOVEIT
Come on guys this looks awesome, I have a feeling that Dr. Lalinde is just playing with Dr. Light and she is really evil.
Speaking of scandal, was I the only one who thought that shading makes it look like PharaohMan’s either topless or wearing a low-cut black bodice?
Maybe it’s time to stop spending time at a certain Awful Megaman Art blog.
I trust Ian Flynn will never commit the crimes Ken Penders did with the Sonic comics, so at least for now, I’m looking forward to his original plotlines.
Dr. Lalinde seems young… and, um… young.
Otherwise, I’m interested to see what the future has in store with this comic.
This is looking pretty awesome. Also, Dr. Cossack. Instant win.
I’ve seen mixed reactions to an original character like Dr. Lalinde being a love interest. This is nothing new. It has worked before brilliantly in The Protomen’s Act II with the introduction of Emily.
Actually… Lalinde’s first name should be Emily! If anybody reading this has clout with Mr. Flynn, FUND THIS IF YOU MUST. The badassery of a prominent and meaningful Protomen reference would be absolutely amazing!
Can’t wait for this arc. I’m loving this.
Dr. Cossack getting a debut already? Hmmm…
Hooray PharoahMan!
I like how people think characters can only debut within their own game’s timeline. Cossack would obviously be around long before Four. It’d make sense to introduce him in a small way early on.
Otherwise, you just get the random “I am really jealous and will now take over the world!” plot that was Four.
I guess I look at it this way; we’ll get a character who likely won’t be recurring (my theory is simply that she’s a Wily Robot sent to distract Dr. Light in a platonic way) and we’ll get to see Wily build something that isn’t a Robot Master.
Plus, it’s not like there won’t be things going on in the comic itself. We’ve got Rush, things that seem to lead into 3/4/5/whatnot and plenty of other stuff going on. A slight reprieve from the action with character building is always fine in my book.
In another important things, I’ve been subscribed to the comic since it started but I’m pretty sure my subscription will run out after Issue 12. Does Archie (or other comics) send out notices about re-upping your subscription or should I look into their website/etc for this sort of thing? (this is the first and only comic I’ve ever gotten a subscription for so I don’t want it to expire and miss out on issues)
I’m not gonna bash on the story yet, I wanna see what’s gonna go down first but I think we can all agree this is the most unexciting cover yet (Even though Pharaoh’s on it). But I am also wondering like Ralene, any help LBD?
Plus I haven’t been around here for sometime and I want to know if anyone can fill me in – Are there Variant covers for issues: 10-12?
Apparently, this is a PRE-MegaMan 3 Arc, that would eventually lead to Dr. Wily’s ruse of working in the name of peace, and ProtoMan working for Wily as a front for testing MegaMan’s true potential.
