Surprise Character in Smash Bros De-make!
What do you get when you combine Super Smash Bros with the GameBoy…? Why, a retroesque, low-resolution, greenish de-make called Super Smash Land of course!

This PC fan-game, which has been in the works for quite a while, is now finally available free for download, featuring six playable characters, eleven stages, 4-player mode and more!
The character roster may be small for a Smash Bros game, but do mind that creator Dan Fornace finally fulfills the one wish that many fans had since the initial announcement of Super Smash Bros Brawl…
That’s right, now you can smash your thumbs sore with the Blue Bomber… or should I say Shades-of-Green Bomber? Anyway, his inclusion comes complete with a fitting Skull Castle Stage.

Epic yes!
Really?
pure extremeness
@Model M: Yes, Really! Before anyone asks why, I ask “Why not?”
Wow, neat.
I’m actually glad it has such a small roster. It makes it feel like this really was the first game in the line especially with the title, “Super Smash Land”.
Not to mention adding the Blue Bomber gives the feeling that he’s still considered a Nintendo character!
lolgamemaker
I really like this game but, lolgamemaker.
I tried it, and it’s alright. I’m really thrown off by “Hit Z to Jump and X to Attack” instead of Up to Jump and such, all of the attacks are just programmed to one button as far as I can tell. The controls are a little slippery and weird, you have to hit the direction before the attack button to attack instead of at the same, and that really throws me off. Your opponents take forever to defeat, and Megaman is the worst in that regard. He’s the last boss in Arcade (what happened to Master Hand??), and he’s… pretty hard to beat so far. He hits hard as a truck and takes like 9 million hits to knock off. As for character balance, I need to play more to find out, but so far I’ve had the best time with Pikachu and Vaporeon. By the way, that previous sentence has spoilers.
So yeah, just a mini review after a few minutes of playing, in case anyone else plans to try.
Yeah, Up should’ve been jump.
@Phoenix
“Joy ToKey”.
If you have a gamepad, you can map the Z key to be Up on the stick / dpad.
Even if you don’t have a gamepad, you can remap all the controls. I think there is even an option to make Up the Jump key without even remapping the controls. So THERE.
Anyway, I already downloaded the game, and after a few attempts, beat it with Mario. Mega Man is a tough end boss with 2 lives! His abilities are so varied, but I guess I’ll have to unlock him before I can say he’s broken.
Either way, for a free download, it’s a heck of a game. A really well-made labor of love.
Awesome! Now megaman just needs to make an official appearance in the the upcoming smash brothers for wii u and 3ds
Nifty trailer, though I hope Mega Man wasn’t meant to be an actual surprise– if he was, it has to be one of the worst-executed I can imagine.
But as homage to the Brawl debut trailer, that was pretty cool.
If you remap jump to Up, you can’t use the up key anymore, as, well, an Up key!
Hmm, I dunno what to tell you. When I play, I use ASDW as Left/Down/Right/Up, and J/K for Attack/Jump respectively. It’s the same key configuration I use when I play NES games on an emulator, and it’s always worked comfortably for me. I don’t like using the arrow keys to move anymore.
It’s a heck of a lot of fun. Mega Man killed me.
Why is Megaman so hard to beat? everyone else seems to be awkward to control. . .so wierd.
Pfft, who the hell plays console emulators with a keyboard? Come on, now. Stop it.
I hope that was meant as a joke, KGN-004. I’ve beaten Mega Man 2 through Mega Man 7 using a keyboard (I own all of them except 7 in real life), as well as several other games.
Heck, I can play Mega Man X3 very comfortably using a keyboard, to the point where there is virtually no quality loss between controller and keyboard. If you have no ability to play a game with anything other than a controller, don’t mock someone who does.
@KGN-004:
Hurr, I play with a keyboard. Unless it’s a 3D game where I need to constantly control the camera when I fight, I can play just as well with one. Besides, this isn’t a r-o-m anyway, it’s a gamemaker game.
Also, I played a bit more and unlocked both secret characters and Endless Mode shortly after yesterday’s post. All I can say is you have no reason to ever play as anyone other than Megaman or Vaporeon. All the other characters are wusses when faced with the power of blue.
@KGN-004
Erm… people who DON’T have a joystick?
1. Play the game with a joypad. Keyboards were not made for platforming and tend to be more awkward than joypads.
2. Mega Man is the best available character in my opinion. His moveset feels perfectly natural, almost as if I were playing an actual Capcom fighter with Mega Man.
3. This game kicks ass.
I might download this… Nah I’ll pass..
I knew about Super Smash Land for a while now, but I didn’t know they threw Mega Man into the mix. Hmm… perhaps I should download this now.
lol keyboard work great in this game ,who is enough naive to think that ?
Megaman is deadly in this game . Easily top 3 with link and kirby
