Mega Man: Dr. Wily’s Revenge Hits eShop Today

If you tune in to your 3DS’s eShop updates today, you’ll find something a little Mega Man themed. According to a Nintendo press release, Mega Man: Dr. Wily’s Revenge will be hitting the download shop today for $3.99. It also will be arriving in Europe as well, as we previously reported.

Dr. Wily’s Revenge is perhaps one of the smallest Mega Man titles ever developed, with only six stages, but I still find it a joy to play through and am particularly fond of its renditions of music. It is a bit tough too but definitely one of the ones you can keep playing over and over, despite how small it is. Also Enker is cool. If you haven’t had much of an experience with the game before, I recommend it.

Thanks to Matt for the tip!

  1. I still stand by the opinion that, if Capcom stuck to their plan OR released MML3 as compensation for the cancellation, they would be THE company to beat in the eShop. I mean, since May, it would’ve been 5 months of monopoly on the eShop market for 3DS owners.

    On topic, though, it’s good SOMETHING Mega Man hit the eShop. Just not the one we were all waiting for. :(

    So, this is the last piece of software to be released, even if it’s and old game, after this, complete darkness, right?.

    Sad.

  3. Ash Paulsen says:

    It’s about damn time. I’ve had $4 burning a hole in my eShop account ever since its launch, waiting for this to come out.

    @rockman -
    Capcom has been steadily releasing Mega Man 1-5 and Mega Man X1-2 on Virtual Console (with 6 and X3 almost certain to come at some point), and Rockman 1-4 Complete Works on the PlayStation Store (with 5 and 6 sure to come eventually). Why would you think it’ll be any different with the Rockman World titles on the eShop? I fully expect to see Mega Man II-V on the eShop… eventually. It might take awhile, but they’ll get there.

    It’s only new, original Mega Man games that Capcom refuses to make.

  4. Phaelin says:

    Cool! Now skip II through IV and put V on the eShop!

  5. Bob says:

    @Phaelin

    Hey now IV is actually pretty decent, not perfect since it’s still just reusing NES content but it’s a lot more “creative” with it than I-III. Also it’s the first Mega Man with a shop which has to be worth something.

  6. STM says:

    Mega Man IV and V would benefit the most just because their physical forms are so dang expensive, especially V.

    III is an all right title, but II… It’s “playable”, but it’s so stupidly easy and the music is so tinny and annoying that it’s questionable if it should even be played.

  7. Zerothemaster says:

    @Phaelin: Yeah!

  8. TTL says:

    Yeah, really II is the only game that borders on being “bad”. I mean, if you want to ween into Mega Man, play that. Easily the easiest classic Mega Man I’ve played yet and getting a physical copy of the game will, at worst, put you back twice as much as any virtual console release on the bay.

    I have to say, though, for all the hype, I’m really looking forward to Mega Man V on the Game Boy. Just have to save up that minimum fifty bucks to get a copy. Stupid ebay. :P

  9. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

    I have 1 and 3 in hand ,but I am missing the other three.

  10. HeatPhoenix says:

    No, thank ye.

  11. Aaron says:

    Well, I already picked up all the Game Boy titles a while back, so there’s no reason for me to download this one. Still, it’s great to hear that the games will be easy and affordable to pick up again (I ended up paying quite a bit for MMV…). 1 to 3 are just OK, but IV and V are well worth the effort.

  12. KGN-004 says:

    @Phaelin @Zerothemaster

    Come hither, that I may strangle the life out of you.

  13. Phaelin says:

    @KGN-004: The three in between can be gotten around to, just get V out there first! Then maybe work retroactively to III and don’t even bother with II except for completeness’ sake.

  14. MegaManSonicDude says:

    YESH!

  15. Jose says:

    Got it and loving it. I’m hoping that the other games come. :)

  16. Munchy says:

    Capcom really needs to steal Heat Man’s Rockman World 3DS compilation idea.

  17. calhounnick15 says:

    @Munchy

    God Yes!

  18. Captain Jonjovi says:

    @Munchy

    Mega Man Mania?

  19. ZeroX_Syaoran says:

    @Captain Jonjovi: Technically yeah, but BETTER. :D

  20. Tornado man says:

    annnnnndddd…Bought.

  21. Tornado man says:

    And god yes, skip two. Its horrific.

  22. QuartrGuy says:

    Got it and beat it in one night.
    Maybe I should try doing it without the restore points…

  23. Model M says:

    Already own the game on GB. So I’ll pass.

  24. Airman says:

    Anyone know when we’ll be able to get points for the e-shop WITHOUT needing a credit card?

  25. Airman says:

    @Tornado Man

    2 isn’t so bad….don’t know why everyone seems to hate it so much….yeah it’s not the best Mega Man game ever but it’s not terrible.

  26. Ash Paulsen says:

    I always find it a shame when people act like Mega Man V is the only Game Boy title that matters or is any good. III, IV, and V are all fantastic, IV and V especially. In fact, I might like IV just a little bit more than V, even though they’re both amazing. I’ll be happy to have all five games on the eShop (even if II is pretty terrible).

  27. Ash: Indeed. MMV may be the most original one, but the others are quite good as well. People are just cheating themselves by ignoring them.

    And for those who love narratives in their MM games, MMIV is better than the NES games.
