Capcom Sends E-Mail to Mega Man Legends 3 Contributors for Mementos

Back when Mega Man Legends 3 was suddenly canceled, there was some talk about those who had contributed to the Devroom and had their submissions selected for inclusion in the game receiving special mementos of gratitude from the development staff for their efforts. And darn if I can’t seem to find where that was said, but I’m pretty sure it was out there, somewhere.

In any case, MMN reader Mimi informed us that she received a message on behalf of the developers from Gregaman a few days ago, asking for name, address, Servbot number– all the stuff relevant to receiving the gift from the team. And once they have the information they need, they’ll send them out as soon as they can.

So, consider this a notice for those of you who might have had something selected for the game: if you have not received any such e-mail, be sure to check your spam mail folders, trash, cowcatchers, whatever you’ve got…

Actually, as Mimi notes that she received a “message,” so it might have simply been delivered via PM on Capcom Unity, so if your work was chosen and you have been avoiding the site lately out of grief and because it hurts so much… well, you might want to check in. At least you’ll likely get to have something from this whole experience which few of the rest of us ever will.

And for those interested in the actual contents of the message, which includes the development team’s thanks to the fans for their support, as well as their hopes that those same fans will continue to support Capcom and Mega Man, you can find that all below. Thanks, Mimi!

Hey there, Mimi.

The below is a message from the dev staff in Capcom Japan. I hope it provides you with a bit of joy in the face of our recent disappointment, but sorry if it doesn’t.

——————————-

To those whose ideas were selected in Mega Man Legends Developer Room events:

Thank you very much for your support of Capcom and the Mega Man franchise. On July 18th, 2011, it was announced that development of Mega Man Legends 3 had been discontinued. It is the desire of the entire development staff, however, to send one final memento of our gratitude to those Devroom members whose ideas were to be used in the final game.

We apologize for any further inconvenience this might cause you, but we request that you please provide your name, mailing address, and telephone number so that we can send out these thank-you items. Please PM these details to Greg in the following format:

================

Mailing address:

Name:

Telephone Number:

Servbot Number:

================

We’d like to apologize once again for not being able to satisfy the expectations of all those who were eagerly anticipating this title, as well as express our heartfelt gratitude for your support. Thanks so much.

We know it’s an additional burden on you to ask for this, but if you would please send the above information, we’ll send out your gift as soon as we can.

We sincerely hope that you will continue to support Capcom and the Mega Man franchise.

Thank you.

Just hit me up with that info at your earliest convenience.

Many thanks,

Greg

  1. Bob says:

Knowing how Capcom’s been treating the fan base lately you might want to x-ray any packages you get from them.

  2. Bob: I do think that’s a bit harsh; I’m sure the development team is every bit as disappointed as we are about this, and it’s a rather nice gesture for those who won’t get to see their work in a finished game.

It’s not like they have to do this…

  3. stealthwoman says:

It better be really good. -.-

  4. GirlaPH says:

Seems like they’re up to something. Whatever it is, it better be something because I doubly Capcom is secretly releasing MML3 to the supporters.

  5. Mister_X says:

“It is the desire of the entire development staff”

More like Capcom’s Board of Directors, no doubt.

I seriously doubt that the devs, like us, wanted this project to end either.

  6. Mimi says:

No problem! I was glad to contribute to the Mega Man Network! :)

Oh, I guess I should’ve specified that… Yeah, for those who were wondering, the message was a PM from Capcom Unity.

  7. Hazama says:

Hope the Capcom exec who canceled Legends 3 doesn’t hear of this or else he might cancel the gift as well.

  8. Joey says:

maybe they will send out the prototype to people on a cartridge with poster and stuff, that would be cool, so people would get a chance to at least play the prototype.

  9. YoshiAngemon says:

Unfortunately, as Servbot #277, one who didn’t contribute much, nor did any get chosen, I am not getting anything, as I haven’t gotten a message from Capcom-Unity, email or otherwise.

  10. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

Hearing the winners get something for their efforts is reward enough for me. Thats the best news I’ve ever heard in a while. Thanks for sharing.

  11. TCxROCK_Man says:

seeing as they slapped us all in the face a couple of times, i would definetly security scan your package when it comes in…

  12. stealthwoman says:

it better not be the prototype version unless someone plans to distribute it online

  13. glitchy says:

    @Bob:

Harsh, but very giggle worthy. :p

I feel worse for the developers though… the only reward they probably get is the honor of working on “Ultimate” Marvel vs Capcom 3 or some other sequel of a sequel.

I’m still waiting for Street Fighter: The Good Edition myself. :c

  14. Omar says:

    (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

  15. Dyllan says:

im jealous of those people :o

  16. Axl-fox says:

inb4 you get a free copy of UMvC3

  17. DarkDreamTCK says:

It will end up MegaMan related. Maybe one of the books or something.

Too bad I didn’t get a chance to do anything in the Devroom. I have no prowess with art and my words can only take me but so far when Im busy with other things.

  18. stealthwoman says:

    @ Glitchy

I see someone watched the Angry Video Game Nerd :)

  19. anongos says:

I’m really curious to know, as many people here are, what they are going to send out.

  20. RocMegamanX says:

“We sincerely hope that you will continue to support Capcom and the Mega Man franchise.”

What Mega Man franchise? Capcom wants to try to make that as non-existent as possible, just so they can make more Street Fighter and Resident Evil. I like Ryu and Chun Li just as much as the next guy, but we need a new Megaman game.

  21. glitchy says:

    @stealthwoman:

I wondered if someone would understand that. ;p *brofist*

  22. DaiSanSei says:

    congrats to those who participated

  23. Sasquatch says:

    …Huh.

I’m sorry, but this sounds to me quite a bit like a “Oh hey, we appreciate your support and involvement. But we still aren’t interested in reviving the project. Here, take this prize and leave us alone already” .

Maybe I’m being too blunt, but seeing as this “memento” thing has only popped up after continued pressing to continue the project…

So, is this a sign to continue the support, because they’re close to breaking? Or is it a finality to their adamant refusal to revive MML3?

    Meh. I can’t tell.
