Art Buster: The Mega Man Tribute Fanbook
When UDON announced the Mega Man Tribute book, every Mega Man fan artist had a stroke. Right there on the spot. Once medics were called and the artists revived, thousands got to work on their entries. UDON had over 3000 entries. Sadly, being a 300 page book, not everyone got a chance to get in. I didn’t envy UDON’s job, sorting through all those entries. The entries they picked are going to look awesome once the book comes out. Congratulations once again to all you who got in!
But what of the others?
If you frequent deviantART and its Mega Man clubs, no doubt you’ve seen some of the amazing artwork that didn’t get picked.
That’s where deviantART user Soul-Rokkuman comes in. She has decided to collect all the non-winning entries and display them for all of us to enjoy. It’s still undecided whether the entries are going to be displayed in a gallery or maybe a downloadable free e-book, or other means. However, she’s sending out the call to everyone interested.
If you entered UDON’s tribute contest or know someone who did, and they didn’t get in, please send the entry her way! Spread the word so we can enjoy all the work that these artists put forth!

So we can assume, miss tabby, that the above picture of X taping into his inner strength is just 1 of the many entries that will be in this honorable mentions portion of the tribute.
FYI, the number of entries was closer to 2500, not 3000. While I agree with Soul-Rokkuman’s policy on one submission per artist, I disagree with her barring anyone who was selected for the Tribute. (I hope it’s not spite. She blogged about hitting her ex when she lost.) I’ve been browsing other submissions on DA and there some fantastic alternate submissions from succesful artists like barthschwein, Cessa and Daniel-Velez that I think would benefit Soul’s wee project.
lol I drew a Tom Cat that lost, but I KNOW it’s bad…I will spare this fine collection of its presence!

Yeah I was invited to the fan book, but I want to modify my submission before I do so. I was told to let them know when I do those mods. I probably should’ve spread the word though. *shrugs*

@ Rock-X – Yeah. It’s Soul’s. I figured since she was putting forth the effort, to clip a piece of her work up there.

I’m still debating if I want to send out the call to post them in the MMN gallery as well.
Not to split hairs, but Matt had updated the UdonCrew blog, announcing that there were already over 2500 entries very early in the morning on the day of the deadline, maybe five or six hours before the actual deadline for submissions. I was one of the people who got my piece in at the very last minute. And knowing how most people work, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if a few hundred other artists did the same.
@Glitcher: I think you’re reading too much into this. This could be less to do with spite and more like preventing double dipping since the artists chosen by udon will already have their submission in. Honestly, the idea is probably based on the more room open, the more artists filling in.
As a side note, I stopped subscribing to the crowd of conspiracy theories because I have had it with people taking tiny little things and providing it as the truth when its actually far from it. For example, if I was still in that club, then I would take your comment from this article, set it next to previous ones made and accuse you of suspect behavior based on the idea that you’ve had a superiority complex ever since the time you complained about being left out of Xtreme Wave’s Megaman X color illustration doujinshi. Of course, you, Tabby, Nyte and I well know that’s not true, isn’t it? ISN’T IT?!
Speaking of miss tabby, I hope that you can, though perhaps have enough to use as a sample of the whole project. Now that I think about it, I’m to know if you took part in udon’s tribute contest.
what I meant to say was “I’m curious to know if you participated in the tribute contest.”
Maybe she isn’t including actual contest winners to avoid leeching sales from UDON’s official book? It would be counter-intuitive to make the winning art free to view when the idea is to support UDON and the Mega Man community as a whole by purchasing the book.

You misunderstood me. I meant Soul could include ALTERNATE submissions from winning artists in her book. Some people drew more than one entry.

I think suzuran already argued my point effectively on DA and does not seem to have changed Soul’s mind. But Soul did say that if she let winning artists in accidentally, she won’t remove them from the project. All you have to do is send her your Tribute pic and pretend that it was rejected by UDON. Smooth criminal.
A friend called me this morning by phone (and boy, I hate to wake so early on Sunday) and she just say “wake up and go to check MMnetwork comments”. And I found this.
Really guys? is so important to you to be part of a book done for people that did’t were selected? Are you really eager for some attention?

And Glitcher: Yes, I know that the winning artist made more entries, but they have ALREADY one entry in UDON’s.
And yes, I wanted to do this book annual, and it’s suposse that next year there is no rules about being in Udon or something. But you guys are being so dificult…

There’s no need for anyone to get too worked up over this. This is a fan effort, and it’s how Soul is running the operation. Anyone else is free to start their own art collection initiative. Besides, it’s not like there’s no other means for people to show off their art.
@Soul – O.o Why am I getting a frowny face? I’m not trolling.You can run it any way you like. But I’m going to encourage people to talk to you about it as well. Communication is key in such a big project.
Let’s not be hasty and break rules here. If Soul sets the rules, and you already talked to her over it, well that’s that. o.o;

edit: @Rock-X – Sorry, missed your comment. Yeah, I entered Udon’s contest. Didn’t get selected cause I suck. ;P But I’ll probably use my entry as WGA fodder once the WGA backlog runs out again.
