Mega Man Legends 3 Project Director Introduces the Staff

Following the initial announcement of Mega Man Legends 3 last week, some people have expressed some concerns about the project, as relatively little is known about it thus far. One such concern has been about who exactly would be on board developing this title. Fortunately, that question has been answered (at least in part) today by director Masakazu Eguchi (pictured at right… sort of).

Over on Capcom Unity, they’ve posted a translation of the developer blog which introduces the staff members. And so far, it seems so good– at least, if you’re hoping for some series veterans to be taking the reins on this one.

For starters, fans of the series should already be familiar with director Eguchi’s work. In addition to directing Legends 2, he also worked as a planner on such sections as the Nino Island Ruins, Calinca Ruins, and Pirate Train missions.

He also notes he was “still a freshman” at the time, and there were things that he wanted to do in Legends 2, but didn’t. Following that title, he kept the ideas in the back of his mind while working on the Battle Network and Star Force titles until the time came that he would be able to use them.

Of course, Eguchi is not the only familiar face. Yoshinori Kawano, who directed both of the previous Legends titles is also returning to oversee the overall project, offering insight to the rest of the staff about what makes Legends the “legend” it is.

Eguchi continues:

Also, we have reunited art directors, planners, designers from the early Legends titles as well as enlisted support from their students, the members EXE and Star Force teams. To top it off, we’ve sprinkles in leaders and key staff from the Monster Hunter, Lost Planet, and Basara titles. I think that it is safe to say that we have put together a team of talent who will best be able to combine the best of both old and new for this project.

He continues by saying that they will do their best to provide an unforgettable adventure, one which– with our help– will draw in new players to the series along with the old.

Eguchi will elaborate on that last point at another time, but it appears he has other, more pressing matters to attend to, as he points out that the New York Comic-Con will be this weekend. And as we already know, Capcom will be in attendance, hopefully with something new for us to sink our teeth into.

Too bad the system you choose and its price tag aren’t helping matters at all.

  2. TheAncientEnemy says:

The $300 3DS rumor has already been debunked. On top of that, the DS models have sold in incredible numbers. I think it’s a pretty brilliant move.

Besides, anyone who was wishing for aPS3 or Xbox HD Legends title severely overestimates Capcom’s devotion to the series, as well as it’s ability to make money. The reality is that not many people played the games and even fewer loved them.

  3. Enzan Chaud says:

    J. L., We can’t say that for certain yet. :/

  4. rnn says:

People, you finally got your coveted Legends 3 — and all I’ve heard so far is a lotta noise about the price of a 3DS. If anything, I’d be ecstatic the sequel I wanted was on a system with such a strong opening lineup. Unlike the PSP… You know, the little portable that single-handedly murdered MMPU and MHX’s sales?

I know we’re not all exactly ballin’ in this economic climate, but if you celebrated the game’s announcement with manly tears and screams like you all claimed to, I’m surprised a couple hundred dollars for a 3DS would even cross your mind.

  5. Mega Man X Zero says:

Masakazu Eguchi was the one behind the Gemeinschaft fight? Wow… That’s one of my favorite boss fights in the game. Not sure how to react to him being behind the Nino and Calinca ruins… Those two areas were a bit of a pain.

Glad to see they aren’t pulling any punches so far. Seems like an impressive staff they’ve built up for Legends 3.

  6. AdventAxl says:

Well… Time to start saving for the 3DS

  7. FURISETO says:

Everybody is trying their best to make Inafune’s favorite Megaman game :)
Why can’t NY Comic Con come faster :(

  8. pstart says:

Here’s hoping more is shown at NY Comic Con! A trailer sure would be swell!

  9. DarkDreamT2 says:

Freakin. 3DS. Hate. Jeeze, its just like MMU when it was first shown. The 3DS will be great and worth its price. Watch.

  10. St. McDuck says:

I do wonder if Capcom will re-release MML 1&2 as PS1 downloads for PSN, to get noobs up to speed on the series.
There’s also that PSP Legends collection that never made it stateside.

  11. Maddok says:

I’d be willing to pay $300 for the 3DS, honestly I think it’s a decently fair price considering it’s capabilities.

Regardless, I’d be paying any price for MML3, (well… system and game I’d pay 500 dollars for tops, I want it bad, but not that bad)
I really hope the music composer for the first two games returns for this one!

  12. LanceHeart says:

@TheAncientEnemy, the price isn’t final until it’s announced. Nintendo has full control over the system’s actual price and anything else is speculation, whether it be $300, $250 or something else.

@St. McDuck, here’s hoping! This would be a good time to announce PSOne Classic releases of the games.

  13. JewceD says:

A CNN article did say that it was priced @ $300. I was rather shocked to see that cost myself. The Wii is selling for around $200 new!! Personally, I really think that they’ll come down in price by their March release as their library is rather small still. Even $250 is a steep price to pay. The DSi XL is still around $170, so maybe they do think that they can pull it off. Fortunately for us, I’m sure we’ll see a $20-$40 price drop by the time MML3 is released.

  14. MegaManXStarForce says:

Regardless, I am getting both. lol, and I’m only getting the 3DS FOR Legends 3. I really don’t care what system it’s for. Granted, I would love to see a nice HD, butt-kicking Legends 3, but Capcom’s still wary, so the 3DS goes well for me. They get the game on a new system and can still play it fairly safe. So I won’t complain just yet. (AFTER the game comes out and I want another, THEN I’ll complain. XD )

I am glad they are bringing back a lot of the people who orginally created the DASH games. That only makes me look foward to this game that much more. ^_^)-b

  15. Tabby says:

@rnn – the price tag is not stopping me at least. I’m crazy enough to buy a system for one game. *cough*psp*cough*

  16. Alilatias says:

    @ JewceD

You’re willing to believe a CNN article? Especially on the pricing of a gaming handheld? Really?

Sifting through NeoGAF, I see nothing about there being an official price in the US. All of those $300 estimations are from people converting Japanese Yen to Dollars, which is rarely accurate in terms of determining actual price in the US.

  17. Mega Man X Zero says:

I actually bought a PSP for the sake of Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X. Unfortunately right now it’s collecting dust while it awaits a game I’m hoping gets a US release date soon (come on, .hack//Link…)

I would have bought a PS3 for Legends 3 if necessary (as it stands I’m buying one anyway for something else). A 3DS…well, more of a hit to the wallet, but I don’t mind. As long as there is something worth the investment to play, it’s not so bad.

  18. Ginrei says:

See now, I know Masakazu Eguchi better as Eguchi-Meijin… aka Mr. Famous from EXE. He IS the Eguchi who dressed us as Mr. Famous at all the events, right?? I do believe I have a song sung by him from one of the official or remixed soundtracks…

  19. theory says:

Enough whining about the system… by the time MML3 comes out you’ll be able to get a used one for $200, and with the anticipation the entire industry has for the system, you can be sure there will be plenty of quality titles to make it a great investment.

  20. Jeff says:

    Such a great team…

    CANT WAIT!

  21. HeatPhoenix says:

I bought PSP for MHX and MMPU, turns out those games are both 5 hour games.

Well, then I bought P3P, Patapon an a bunch of other great games. So no money lost there. And with the 3DS, well, I’m pretty sure I’m not buying it for MML3

  22. IronWolf says:

Please God don’t let them scew this up. I’ve been waiting ten years for this.
I’m gonna be mad as hell if they screw this up. Mega Man Legends 3 is only reason I’m seriously thinking about getting a 3DS.

  23. IronWolf says:

“A CNN article did say that it was priced @ $300.” Dude CNN is as much of a joke as FOX NEWS if not more.

  24. erik the red says:

    here’s some food for thought…

legends is about 10 years old. so factor in the fact that you probably need to read to enjoy the game, the youngest fans fo the game are probably 16 right now, which means current fans can all get jobs and save money for a 3DS and the game.

Also, non fans above 20 generally have their “game list”. they’ve found the type of games they enjoy and are less likely to try new genres/franchises (not saying they won’t though, but less likely).

so the new fans they’re looking for will probably in the <15 age range, and most of these don't have money to save for a 3DS (I know I only got new games for birthdays and christmas, and I had to put thought into my choices).

except for spoiled kids who'll be getting a 3DS on launch, and those kids tend to take things for granted and probably wouldn't become legends fans if they did get the game, but at least they'd buy it and boost sales.

as for christmas/bday gamers, they may or may not get a 3DS, and if they do, legends 3 would have to be a holiday release, and it would have to be better than the other '11 holiday releases.

3DS comes out in '11, so these kids might get one for their birthdays, but likely they'll get it for christmas, so their first games will probably along the lines of zelda and star fox and/or a mario game. something safe and can be played multiple times until the next holiday.

legends 3 would probably sell better as a holiday '12 release, when people have a chance to buy the 3DS. otherwise, those new fans will appear as used game buyers, which is okay, except that they won't be supporting the franchise.

  25. JewceD says:

    @ Mega Man X Zero
I hear you on that .hack for PSP!! :D

And I pretty much bought the PSP for the MM titles too, thinking that they would be releasing newer games or at least the MML series in US– but sadly no. As for the cnn quote- that is the only figure they have so far. I’m not saying that it is the last word on the pricing so back off!! AND I’m NOT complaining about the 3DS choice as I think that it was a win just to get the title. I’m more of a handheld junky anyway and would’ve probably eventually bought a 3DS. I just found the pricing speculation rather shocking. I’ve avoided the PS3 and Xbox360 for that cost, so I’ll REALLY have to justify spending that amount of money on leisurely entertainment. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a HUGE MM fan. But like one of the other comments mentions, I’m also an adult with other responsibilities so it may have to wait :_(

  26. Asurey says:

Be grateful people, we will finally get Legends 3. By the way, I really of joy when I heard the news. Still can’t believe it.
