Mega Man Megamix Vol. 1 in Review
The first of many Mega Man manga brought to you by UDON – Mega Man Megamix Vol. 1 – has released in comic book stores and should be hitting other book stores soon if not already. Chances are if you read this site, you’re probably not sitting on the fence about getting a copy. But who knows, maybe you need a little insight. Well AWD! who runs Starfield Creations (and is a close pal of mine) has such a review that may entice you. Aside from going over the comic in a general stance, AWD! also makes comparisons of the book to previous editions that sold in Japan. Here’s a little snippet to give you the bottom-line:
What can I say? The book is a fantastic take on the series as a whole. At first, All I could really think to myself was: finally! We “non-linguist” types can appreciate the story along with the pretty pictures. The story is given a much darker and action-packed take, as we are more akin to the younger audience target featured in the games. But let’s face it, we WANTED it to be taken more seriously, and Ariga certainly delivered.
Mega Man Megamix is sounding pretty cool. If not available in your local book store, you can always try Amazon.

If Amazon would ever SHIP IT. >:F
It’s painful waiting. Ariga was the first Rockman manga I ever bought a LONGGG time ago, and now that it’s in english, the waiting is killing me.
I know what you’re saying, Tabby. MMOCW took three months to ship for me.
And I still gotta buy MMXOCW. D:
Just hoping they got it in that bookstore I always go to for my manga
The only store I have around here that carries Udon products is Books-a-Million, but they’re not going to get any copies in-store for no apparent reason. I’ve got mine ordered, and it should be here in two weeks…
So, is this book the standard U.S. manga size? Or is it super-sized like Udon’s Street Fighter manga?
Dangit, I went to my mall on Friday to get a copy to go with my 2000 Wii Points for Mega Man 10, but since Walden Books is notoriously slow, I might as well wait another 2 weeks before trying again.
Eww, a critic actually praised the story.
I didn’t try the local comic store while checking the various bookstores. It’s manga section is pretty pathetic. I’m trying again Tuesday though.
Amazon shipped mine on Saturday, so I’d assume most people should start getting theirs sent out soon, too. And it’s not like I preordered early, I only did it about a week ago.
I’m also really psyched/interested to finally read this in English…mostly because I barely remember Tanjou’s version, since it’s been years since I glanced at that scanlation. And maybe also just to spite Fishman by giving it another positive review. ;p
I just wish I could find it. Even my local comic shop doesn’t have it! Though I am getting Sabrina issue 103 and 104 from them. (Young Salem Mini series, written by the current Archie Sonic Comic author)
@Seiko: Megamix is UDON’s regular ‘jumbo manga’ size, same as our Street Fighter manga. This is actually a standard size in Japan too for higher end mangas like Pluto, Silent Mobius, or (more relevant to this post) Gigamix.
To anyone else having trouble finding Megamix in stores: Amazon.com is your best bet. They have it in stock and are now shipping it out instantly. Otherwise if you have a local comic shop that didn’t order the book, let them know and most will probably order it for you. We have plenty extra in stock at the moment, so everyone can definitely order more copies.
BTW, a few easy things you can do to help Megamix be more successful(meaning potentially more Mega Man manga down the line)
- Tell you friends! Let your real world friends who like Mega Man know about Megamix! show em your copy & get ‘em hooked
- Spread the word online! talk about the book on Mega Man forums, gaming forums, anything helps
- give the book a good review on amazon.com(this can help with people who are on the fence about buying it!)
Thanks for all your support for this series gang, all of us at UDON appreciate it!
@Fishman:
AWD! isn’t some critic. It’s Dark Napalm! He’s one of us.
I preordered mine long ago…… and have yet to see it =P
