Capcom Challenge Teases a “Third” in Mega Man 10 *Updated*
Throughout today, the Capcom Unity had been offering a series of challenges to its members, with each success revealing another piece of a puzzle for a mysterious image. The Unity came through, and the following image was revealed:
Indeed, there is a new piece of “iam8bit” art for those who love the self-parodying style Capcom has chosen to promote the latest Mega Man titles. However, there is more to the image than meets the eye, as is seemingly evidenced by Capcom saying:
What’s so special about this? Well…here’s a hint. There’s a third. A third what? Tune in tomorrow to find out!!
I don’t think anyone reading this has to think twice about what he’s talking about, and that large hand in the foreground likely belongs to the mysterious third playable character alluded to by Nintendo Power upon revealing the game. Of course, it is a bit difficult to accurately discern just who it could be, given the nature of the “iam8bit” style– Proto Man doesn’t have big, red, spherical shoulders normally, for example.
We can guess all we like, with Bass and Duo being perhaps the top two respective favorites, but we will know for sure tomorrow, and bring you the news then.

It doesn’t quite mesh perfectly, unless you slide the right image up a little. Either way, the two pieces are clearly meant to go together. What’s more– and I can’t believe I didn’t pick up on this until now– part of the file name on Capcom’s press site for the right-hand part with the logo is “MM10_MIDDLE_Cover,” which means that there should be one more piece, to the right of the above.
So, it appears that the “third” hint may have a double meaning. That, or the first meaning was merely a complete misinterpretation. I guess we’ll see come Tuesday.
Oh, and now we know whose arm that is. Sort of.
Fun bonus fact: when resizing the right image to match the height of the left image, doing so made the width of the right image “1987″– the year the original Mega Man title was released. Coincidence? I’ll leave the conspiracy theorists among you to figure that one out.

Some people have taken the two mm10 artwork together to form a single piece, and from what I see the hint is referring to a third artwork to be revealed soon. The pics reveal Megaman standing on a giant robot: some believe it could be Duo, but honestly I am having serious doubt its him, and certainly not Bass.
Or the two pictures could be unrelated. At any rate, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be Bass, but Capcom has a habit of throwing out awesome characters after only a couple of games. (Cossack, who was sort of in MM5 for example.)
Tomorrow is also Sega showing off Needlemouse allegedly. Sounds like Capcom’s read to put the spikebar under Sega’s feet.
I think some people are forgetting that the artist, Gerald de Jesus, came out almost right away on his dA page saying that the first artwork was “actually the center portion of one HUUUUGE cover, but the rest of the cover has spoiler material such as bosses.” http://jdjartist.deviantart.com/art/Mega-Man-10-147016355
That said, if this new pic is the left piece, the arm in question really is connected to that platform-like head Mega and Proto are on in the first (middle) pic. Obviously not Bass. Unless that little fire-wielding dude is…LOL
I actually hope the third playable character isn’t part of the final piece, to be honest. I’d rather it be a surprising boss spoiler.
I wouldn’t say we “forgot” the artist said that so much as “never knew” about it. That certainly changes things.
What if the third playable character is Dr. Light? That’d sure be interesting.
Well, that piece of artwork is the second we have seen, so they might be referring to the third part, not to the third character.
Not much else they could mean to say other than a third character, not to mention there seems to be some gold/yellow accents there (Bass), but it fits too well with the original piece. Either this picture’s just a little bonus, or yet another piece will come along with the announcement tomorrow.
I am actually hoping for Duo myself, with Bass as a boss of some sort.
Eh, if you put the two pics together, they match up exactly, so the arm definitely doesn’t seem to be Bass’s. Maybe Dr. Light is the third character, zapping enemies with his plasma remote control!!!….!!!
Protoman’s looking pretty Tekkaman there. Also I’m calling the Green Biker Dude as the mysterious third character. YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST FOLKS!!!
I think it’s time maybe for a new character……but at the same time Forte wouldn’t be bad. I think Forte and Duo should be downloadable content like Protoman was for MM9. Oh another cool thing they could do is play as some robot masters like MMPU let you do…that would be some kickass downloadable content.
I’m guessing Duo because of the big fist. I still hope Bass make an appearance, even if he isn’t playable.

I think this is Capcom again trying to throw us for another loop and teasing us. This will NOT be a third character, but a third image. Meaning, it probably can still be anything.
But playing as Bass or just SEEING Duo come back would be pretty cool as well.
Anyway, if it’s a third character (Bass), I’m yawning cause that was too easy to guess. But with a third page, now I’m so anxious I can’t wait I wanna knowandIWANNAKNOWNOWGIMMETHATTHIRDPAGEOMFGBBQ
Since I used to stitch anime pans together and whatnot, I took a stab at this tonight to give you all a better version of what has already been posted. Problem is, the high-rez version of the first pic Capcom Unity provided is cropped slightly more than Gerald de Jesus’ version on his dA page. So that means the two high-rez pieces don’t match up correctly. I stretched out the small dA version to overlap perfectly, and then overlayed the high-rez on top of that. As a result, under “Sheep Man”, you’ll see the really fuzzy LQ web address, but other than that little section, the rest is the good quality art. Until Mr. de Jesus or Capcom Unity provide us with the high-rez full thing, this works. Enjoy:

if you ask me, Megaman here looks WAY too much like Megaman x. look at the helmet, only X has that red jewel like thing, and that body armor, its more like X than megaman.
and protoman, ok seriously thats zero ALL the way, since when did protoman have a sword, NEVER! and look at him on the big head thing, his cape is torn as to resemble zero’s hair.
i Realize the art is suppose to be “bad” in the since it mocks the previous bad arts of the Nes days, but These images are secretly leaking info towards the creation of X and zero.

This is a really cool idea – I never once thought there’d be additions to the same scene. I strongly suspect the “there’s a third” clue is of a third picture to go with the other two.
I highly doubt the statue/giant robot is Duo. He’s big, but not nearly THAT big. That said, it would be nice if he was in the game.

All this reminds me of when everyone was trying to figure out who the last playable character in Castlevania Portrait Of Ruin was. “Is it John and Eric from Bloodlines? After all, PoR is a sequel to it. Maybe Simon, for the anniversary of Castlevania?” Then… We found out it really WAS who we least suspected!

hey if you look closely, on the right image where megaman is standing on , thats a head with a wide mouth with sharp teeth and four eyes.
and thats where the arms belong to.

Alright, here’s what I think.
The left image features Dr. Light and two of his creations, Proto Man and Mega Man. That being said, the right image could feature Dr. Wily and two of his creations, Bass and…
Heheh, just kidding. But it could at least show Bass, I guess.
If Bass is in the game, what will his movelist be in comparison to Mega Man and Proto Man? Obviously, Proto Man can slide and charge but gets hurt easier. So…my idea is that Bass can rapidfire shot (al MM & Bass) but can’t run and gun. He should also be able to double jump, maybe at the expense of something…I don’t know what, exactly.
Any ideas for Duo’s abilities, too?

I expect a more-PowerFighters approach to be taken with Forte, really. Give him charging buster, as well as his “dash” function, usable both from the ground and in the air. Unlike double jumping and 8-direction rapid-fire through walls, this wouldn’t totally break the game.
