So How Is Tatsunoko vs. Capcom?
The release of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars has finally come. While many (myself included) never thought the game would come over here, Capcom thankfully proved us wrong. What does this have to do with Mega Man? Well, as you probably know by now, TvC features not one, but three playable Mega Man characters; each from a different series: Mega Man Volnutt/Trigger (Legends Series), Roll (Classic Series), and Zero (X Series), not to mention Frank West’s “Real Mega Buster” Hyper Combo.
But is the game any good?
Capcom was nice enough to send me a copy so that I could review it on the site I primarily write for, WingDamage.com. As for the Mega Man specific stuff: Zero is everything I want him to be and more, Mega Man Volnutt feels very different than Mega Man Classic (featured in Marvel vs. Capcom) in a good way, and Roll is adorable. You can find my full, detailed review of the game here.
And before you throw tomatoes at me for linking my own review, you should know I was asked to make this post.

So excited for this!
You mentioned you played online a few times without any noticeable lag – how far away were your opponents?
@AurorX
I’m not sure exactly, but I was on “Domestic” at the time (rather than World Wide). I don’t think we’ll really see how stable the online is until the servers are hit with everybody that buys the game, though.
Whenever I get a Wii, I will pick this game up. Oh and by the way here’s a cool little Mega Man Zero video from youtube:

@mainfinger: Okay, thanks. That’s a good point about WiFi traffic – here’s to hoping it plays more like Mario Kart Wii than SSB Brawl.
ZERO is JUST PERFECT!!!
It’s like playing with his X4 version plus some nice attacks from other games (including ZERO series)
The only thing I don’t like is the ending cutscenes, UDON’s art for Rockman X characters are REALLY BAD!! they did an excelent job with Street Fighter and other characters but not with ZERO and Co. =/
@ZEROmaverick
I completely agree. Most of the Udon art looks good, but for whatever reason, the artwork on Zero’s ending (particularly the last scene) looks really off model.
Oh, come on. It’s not THAT bad. Sure, you can tell it’s not a style the artist is used to drawing, but it still looks pretty good to me.
Yeah, Zero’s ending does look pretty bad, but at least not as bad as Megaman’s promotional art for Marvel VS Capcom 2 XD
Gotta question: Are any of the music themes for characters, like MegaMan’s or Ryu’s, still in the game?
I managed to score the three megaman cards
One with Zero and ippatsuman
another with roll and yatterman- 1
and finally megaman volnutt and casshan
zero has a badass combo and trigger is an overally useful character
rolls so cute..
yup. ryu has his theme, i like how it sounds in this game
trigger has the theme from legends 1 (i think when u fight the geselshaft?) i think it was also used in Namco x capcom
and roll has a nice remix of the song from marvel vs capcom and also rockman racing
This game is all kinds of awesome, Zero is my favorite character so far along with Frank West and Batsu.
I won’t be able to pick mine up ’till tomarrow.
I got the three Gatchaman cards, and Zero’s and Volnutt’s cards, as well as the giant robots card.
This game is great, I just hope sales its up to par.
I’m looking forward to seeing the new ending artwork by Udon. Anyone who posts a link to them gets a kiss.
Great review, but my nerdiness forces me to nitpick two things, sorry, that involve the same thing… 1: Capcom VS SNK 2 was the last VS Series game, IIRC (MvC2 was 2000, CvS2 was 2001). And 2: you said this was the “best VS game to date.” I haven’t played TvC yet, and I’m sure it’s excellent, but TvC being technically better than CvS2 is something I have a hard time accepting.
@RegalX7
Good point. I will fully admit to you right now that Capcom Vs SNK 2 slipped my mind despite how much I played it back in the day.
Even still, though, I always considered the Capcom Vs SNK titles to be their own thing. They play nothing like Marvel Vs. Capcom, X-Men vs. Street Fighter or any of those other Vs. games. When I say the Vs. series I’m more referring to the over-the-top, super high jumping, mid-air-Hyakuretsukyaku-performing Vs. series rather than the down to earth Capcom Vs. SNK games.
The moment I unlocked Zero, I was able to hit TMMN again (it had been lagging out and not loading, assumedly because of the activity thanks to TvC). The moment I started Arcade with Zero I perfected the first opponent, then Frank West jumped in and hit me no more than 3 times before I hit him with Rekkoha, then finished him off with a Dark Hold.
Clearly this was fated. Zero is perfect. He and Megaman V will now be my mains, along with Viewtiful Joe, Batsu, Karas, and Morrigan. I normally don’t like fighters, but this one is gold. I love it~!
Awww is there no remix version of zero’s theme? Oh well.
I just saw the commercial on my TV and already I love the game. I hope to get it someday this weekend.
TIP: Play Zero (especially in one of his unlockable color schemes…no spoilers) on the Burning Ruins (or somesuch) level. It looks very appropriate. Even better if it’s a Red Zero vs Other Zero match.
It’s an X fans wet dream, fight-wise. Lol.

And here I was, about to kiss the ground at the thought that Capcom actually invited us to the review copy party. Bummer.
How the crap are so many of you playing this on the 25th? Is it because everyone hates the far north and won’t send stuff up here? Because the release date for this game is the 26th. I’m still getting it though, but it has to be mailed to me from Edmonton.
Sigh. And because of how much we suck up here, I have to wait intill Friday for them to even THINK of putting No More Heros 2 on the shelves. Living in Canada can suck sometimes.

@ LaZodiac:
Midnight Release my friend. Nothing overly special.
@mirahsan2: Please don’t promote your shitty PMVs here. theres a forum for that.
As for TvsC: I hope to get it soon have fun pre-order people. btw, are there any MMZ references in zero’s attacks? i heard that in one special, zero turns his beamsaber Z-saber into the triangle Z-saber and uses it like a lance! that would be tight to see.
@ Goku:
Yeah, it’s his ultimate attack. Dark Hold. More details when ya play, but let me tell you…it’s wicked.
