Rumor: OSS Multiplayer Coming to DSiWare?
Rumor has it that rather than risk sinking money into a DS port-plus version of MegaMan Battle Network in Operate Shooting Star, Capcom may instead simply lift the multiplayer mode from the title and release it independently on Nintendo’s DSiWare downloadable video game service.
The mini-game, known as “Star Colosseum,” allows six players to battle wirelessly to collect stars using one copy of the game and a variety of familiar Battle Network and Star Force faces. The rumor also says there could be additions to the download version, such as multiplayer via Wi-Fi and perhaps one new playable character.
Capcom has yet to comment on this, but we’ll keep you posted if anything more develops.

Disappointing if this turns out to be true, but understandable from a financial standpoint.
On another note, if you guys value your sense of logic/sanity, don’t read the comments in Protodude’s article about this. Major fanboy war taking place.
Unfortunately, I have already. Geez, I know battle network isn’t 100% popular, but some of those comments are just pure trolling hatred.
you can’t tell me to not read “train wreck” comments and expect me to not read them. That’s like handing an alcoholic a bottle of liquor and telling him to not drink it. I have a terrible comment reading addiction! I NEED HELP!
I read the comments on Protodude’s site earlier. Someone needs to screen cap it and put it on Encyclopedia Dramatica.
That 4th character is probably Rogue, if anyone.
Actually, I really doubt this to be true, if only for the fact that the Star Colosseum’s only prizes were points to be used in the main game.
Mall guy__
We dont have news from megaman 10 (turboman), but we have news from Battle network (booster).
People__
We dont like it, we dont like it.
WOW! That Krazy Monkey guy really needs to get over himself, nice job putting him in his place Alilatias!
Forget this, I just want Starforce 4 or EXE 7
So what does this article mean? I admit I’m confused. The game isn’t being brought over, but the multiplayer mode is coming to DSiWare? Or Capcom is just releasing the multiplayer there anyway? If this even turns out true I mean.
EXE7 won’t ever happen.
I wish they’d just continue with making more Rockman games that are still yet to be finished. =s
They should just port the entire game to Wii if they’re bothering to do this! BATTLE NETWORK ON CONSOLE, YO
@Ryan Ferneau
Actually I like that idea!
I agree with Ryan as well. I have most of the MMBN games, but I play them with an emulator for the bigger screen and controller. Show some love for us big-handed nearsighted peeps out there, Capcom!
@Ryan Ferneau: As long as they do it in a collection-type manner. I don’t think anyone’s going to buy each EXE game on the Wii one by one.
So true, Alilatias.
I see no problems with this. OSS got shot apart pretty badly for just being Battle Network 1 with one bonus mission. The problem came from the name where it sounded like you’d be playing EXE 1 through the perspective of Shooting Star Mega Man, trying not to cause time paradoxes as much as possible. It was a missed opportunity, at any rate.
Who the hell goes through the trouble of trolling a Megaman website? Save that for Youtube or something geez..:<
@ Doctor Andy: The same people that troll on YouTube.
*is swiftly punched*
I know there is dissapointment with OSS being BN1 with 1 new scenario and extra, but sheesh why are those trolls trolling Protodude’s Corner? It is not like it is the end of their world because nothing was going the way they wanted it to.
Why not just release the whole version of the game for DSiWare? It’s only about 16 MB, and the DSi has 256 MB of memory for storing games. I don’t see a problem with this. Unless of course, Nintendo has some silly restrictions on how many MB a DSiWare title is allowed to have or not have.
@ Kenmaster2: It appears that for years, there existed this mentality that the reason why the platforming Rockman games and even DASH/Legends 3 are not being produced as often is due to the very existence and success of the EXE/SF saga.
Whether or not this is the actual reason is up for debate, but a lot of these people appear to believe this and thus feel the need to speak out against EXE/SF nearly every chance they get, judging from the current situation.
It would really be nice if they made a Battle Network compilation for the Wii or something. I’d just want a few things to be ironed out to go with factors that would or wouldn’t be there in a collection.
1: BN1-6 obviously present. Not sure if we could squeeze Transmission in, but maybe at the very least EXE 4.5 as a bonus (sans the Battle Chip Gate abilities). Dunno if anyone cares about Battle Chip Challenge…
2: From BN3-6, since it is somewhat painfully obvious the data is there, conglomerate the multiple versions into one game where everything is obtainable in one run (like Giga chips, Styles/Souls/Crosses, bosses (though this may be tricky in BN5, the other games not so much))
3: Music. Okay, BN’s soundtrack is awesome as it was, and some tracks from BN5: Double Team were pretty good, but part of me wants to hear just how cool some of that music can really be if they tried. (For example: see the Complete Works/Anniversary Collection remixes)
4: Link-obtained chips. These would be those odd battle chips obtained via doing link things (see: BigRedWave, HeroSword, etc. from BN2, Balance and DeltaRayEdge from BN3, most of the damn Secret Library from BN4). My guess is those should just be obtainable in the games by performing special tasks (like beating certain enemies with certain Styles/Souls, or in a special way).
5: Secret chips. We all know the bane of these things. Those really cheap or otherwise insane chips that were only available by event or cheat (Bass in BN1, the Gospel chips and Gate SP in BN2, Punk and Bass GS in BN3, etc). While it wouldn’t be impossible for some of these to be DLC or rewards for certain boss fights, I’d much rather just see them be obtained in-game for doing something REALLY extraordinary (or in BN5′s case: via the Number Trader as they did in Double Team). It just seems easier that way.
6: No editing stuff out. I’d much rather see BN6 put into the collection in its original glory (ie with the Boktai chips, Undernet 3, Graveyard 1, and Immortal Area left intact, with all the fun stuff they held). Likewise for BN5′s stuff (which was left intact in Double Team). Not sure how they’d handle the Boktai traders or Sol Cross Mega Man, though… Also, no touching the dialogue unless it’s to fix it (I’m sure we don’t want BN2′s classic lines to be altered at all).
…well, that’s all I can think of at the moment. That would make a pretty good collection, no?
they should remake BN 6 using the original story from the beast series and add sf megaman and alot of added extra stuff
“As long as they do it in a collection-type manner. I don’t think anyone’s going to buy each EXE game on the Wii one by one.”
Hey, they did expect Japanese consumers to buy each NES game for the PlayStation one by one…
