Mega Man 10 in March, Commando Man, Yashichi, and More

Commando Manwith an assist from LBD “Nytetrayn”

So, remember that issue of Nintendo Power? It’s out, along with Inafune’s interview.

The interesting part? A new Robot Master! Meet Commando Man, and see what he’s all about here.

Picking up from where we left off before with new stages, you can expect a new ice boss in charge of the glacier stage. It’s filled with snowmen with exploding heads and ice blocks which break if shot or touched. A sewer stage is filled with slug-like Mets, while a stadium features foes of different sports, including baseball-throwing robots and soccer ball platforms that rise when shot, plus a soccer goal mid-boss who acts as its own goalie.

The desert stage features what is said to be one of the toughest obstacles in the form of vision-obscuring sandstorms that can push you into unseen spikes and walls. That is, unless you manage to eke out a safe spot during the storm. There is also a computer themed stage which even has mouse pointer-like enemies.

For those who find developer Inti Creates’ efforts to be on the verge of overwhelming, they will find salvation in a familiar face– or rather, symbol. Capcom’s iconic Yashichi returns from way back in the very first Mega Man game, ready to refill the Blue Bomber’s Life and Weapons energy in its entirety. Need more? Then visit the between-level shop and stock up on the items you need, just as in Mega Man 9.

As alluded to before, Mega Man 10 features difficulty settings. Easy mode is said to make the game’s difficulty more in line with Mega Man 2, but a Hard mode is there for those who want and can take the punishment.

Nintendo Power notes that the game will also contain multiple modes, in-game achievement-style challenges, online ranking, and downloadable content. But unfortunately, there will be no female Robot Masters this time out; instead, Producer Keiji Inafune allowed the developers a chance to create their own bosses for the Blue Bomber’s latest venture. Hopefully Mega Man can hold up, as he’ll be sporting the same move set as last time; that is, no sliding or charge shots. Better call on the bigger bro if that’s your need.

Finally, the most important item of note is the release date: get your weapons ready for a very Mega March in 2010.

In addition to screens of the new game, volume 250 of Nintendo Power features a full interview with Mega Mastermind Keiji Inafune. So what are you waiting for? Go out a buy the issue!

Special thanks to The Red Priest for the tip!

    COMMANDO TIME!!!

  2. Airman says:

    “WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE G.I. JOE?”

    “AMERICA’S NUMBER ONE FIGHTING FORCE SIR!”

    “AND THAT MEANS?”

    “BIG MUSCLES SIR!”

    “AND?”

    “BIG MISSILES SIR!”

  3. Heat Man says:

    Well he’s somewhat cooler than Sheep Man. But he looks like the lovechild of Spark Man and Napalm Man.

  4. Enzan Chaud says:

    He shall now join the ranks of Hard Man, Snake Man, Wood Man, and Uranus among having suggestive Robot Master Names.

    But regardless of that, holy cow. Awesome!

  5. Airman says:

    Yeah, I agree Enzan (lol, never thought I’d get to say that), but seriously like Heat Man said about Spark Man x Napalm Man, how many bosses is this now that have no hands? Crash Man, Spark Man, Drill Man, Napalm Man, Wave Man (no he didn’t…he had an arm cannon and a harpoon gun…on separate arms), Pirate Man (I don’t count his claw as a hand..not very ambidextrous), Magma Man, Mars, and now this guy…I count 9! Wow, more than enough to make an entire game of them. Poor guys, can’t hold on to that Pencil…so sad. LOL.

  6. DuoDynamo says:

    @Enzan Chaud

    I don’t get it. :O

  7. LanceHeart says:

    Enzan Chaud: Don’t forget Flash Man, Top Man, Dive Man…

    Innuendo is key to Mega Man names.

  8. Forci says:

    Sports and Desert themes? Could this mean that they are actually “Classic-ifying” Grid Man and Desert Man? Who knows?

    Also, once again, I am calling it: Penguin Man for the ice stage.

  9. Airman says:

    @Duo Dynamo

    Haven’t you ever heard the phrase “Going Commando”?

  10. ZetraΩ.exe says:

    The name Commando seems really odd :/ Is this coming out in America first? or is it going to be like all the other originals and come from Japan first? I’m so confused.

  11. Airman says:

    @Forci

    I know, perhaps Desest Man and Grid Man are coming? Or at least finally a sports-themed boss. As for your “Penguin Man” idea? I like it, but they already have an animal boss and they typically only have one per game. Just saying.

  12. Aqua says:

    He actually reminds me a lot of Search Man.

  13. Gaia says:

    Well, having the Yasichi can certainly make up for the lack of a female RM if anyone wanted one, and she’s not the only stand-alone RM. I can list some of the stand-alone masters:

    - Dynamoman (he can heal himself)

    - Topman (seemingly useless master weapon)

    - Splashwoman (only female in the roster)

    - Bubbleman (has spikes in the room for the first fight)

    - Quint (He’s from the future)

    - Astroman (One of the most gimmicky stages)

    To name a few.

  14. LanceHeart says:

    Gaia: Top Spin was revealed to be the greatest weapon ever and Bubble Man’s stage is no longer unique since Tornado Man had spikes at the top of his original boss room as well.

  15. STM says:

    I do wonder, if the speculation about Foot Man and Desert Man is true, if we’ll be seeing the EXE exclusives slowly gaining classic versions.

    Video Man and Cosmo Man would be pretty neat in this regard, and I can imagine Laser Man’s stage making Quick Man’s death lasers even more of an utter joke.

  16. Airman says:

    @Gaia

    LanceHeart is right:

    Top Spin was deadly to the final boss and Shadow Man in Mega Man 3

    Burst Man and Tornado Man have spikes on their ceilings

    “Gimmicky Stage” is a rather subjective term but if you really think about it…Gravity Man, Star Man, Galaxy Man, most of the space themed bosses had very “Gimmicky” stages. But then it could be argued that ANY stage has “gimmicky” qualities.

  17. AquaTeamV3 says:

    Commando Man seems pretty intimidating from what I’m seeing.

  18. Forci says:

    Airman: Actually, there was an article a while back that showed how the Top Spin could be much more useful than that. I believe that was what LanceHeart was referring to.

    Also, as for Penguin Man, I only mention it because of a suspiciously penguin-looking robot I pointed out on that cover artwork.

  19. Haggis says:

    Commando man seems a likely boss for the Desert themed level to me.

  20. Lumine1412 says:

    I WANT A FEMALE ROBOTMASTER… NOW! (the capslock was accidentally left on, sorry)

  21. Rhomega says:

    Shame there’s no female Robot Master this time around, since I love Splash Woman, but I can forgive them.

  22. Airman says:

    @Rhomega

    We don’t know that there isn’t one yet, we still have 6 more chances!

  23. Airman says:

    @Forci

    Top Spin, how much more useful are we talking, give an example (you have piqued my curisoity)!

  24. Shoot Man says:

    I like the design of Commando Man, it remaind me of Search Man.

  25. Emuji says:

    @Airman

    One animal per game? I only can remember Snakeman and Toadman… And you have Centaurman, Shademan and Splashwoman, who are more like fantastic creatures.

    Despite of that, I don’t like the idea of making robot masters like animals at all. You can see all the animals you want in Rockman X sagas.

  26. Mad Dr.Drake says:

    I want a Tesla coil themed robot master. or a female electric robot master, you know some thing like Wirewoman or something.

  27. Airman says:

    @Emuji

    No, I didn’t mean that every game had one, I meant that they never included more than one animal boss per game (if it had one at all), but hey, you never know, this could be the game to break that pattern.

  28. SeahollyCy says:

    Here’s hoping Cappy doesn’t fall into their old habits…
    9 was too good for me to tolerate 10 going the way of the typical flavor-of-the-year sequel…
    Not that there’s anything here that doesn’t look amazing thus far, but it’ll have some big shoes to fill.

    I do lament the lack of estrogen this time around, though.
    I mean, Sheep Man looks pretty charming, but I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing “Sheep Woman” instead…

  29. demodrawer says:

    All these years and they are still coming up with new robots for the classic mega man. Does anyone think that the sheep boss will lead it to the X series even remotely?

  30. shihe says:

    demodrawer:

    Well, there’s Sheep Man, Megaman’s artwork looks like the X armor, and Protoman’s “cape” resembles Zero’s hair… The game’s plot is said to feature a VIRUS… I dunno there’s a lot of references to the X series, but I don’t think it’ll have anything to do with it yet.

    If the megaman game that connects Classic to X series is ever created, it’ll probably have a unique title (Such as Megaman & Bass had) instead of a numeric one, this could be so that they could keep adding numbers. :P

  31. Rock-X says:

    Demodrawer & Shihe: 1. Follow this link to GoNintendo.com here:http://www.gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=107372
    2. read the part where it says “It will have no relation to Mega Man X”.
    3. Ask yourselves, “What part of NO RELATION do I not understand?”

  32. RegalX7 says:

    Those of you labeling innuendo bosses failed to mention Swallowman…
    Also, I wanted them to make Classic versions of EXE bosses since before 9 was announced. I think a Kingman stage would be pretty cool, and Gateman, Videoman, Kendoman, Laserman, Elementman, etc. were really good bosses. But… I don’t think they’re going to.
    Oh, and Commandoman is about a hundred steps-up from Sheepman.

  33. tokyobassist says:

    Yeah those comments about gimmick levels/bosses were beyond stupid. Did you guys forget what series you’re talking about here? Mega Man WAS based off paper, rock, scissors afterall.

  34. Alilatias says:

    @ RegalX7: Come to think of it, is there any Classic ‘Create-A-Character’ winner that was later adapted into the EXE series? Can’t think of a single one.

    The reason why I bring this up is because (and you probably know this already) every Navi you listed (probably except for Videoman) were winners of such a contest.

  35. darkpower says:

    One thing that I wonder is if tthey are going to add the slide and/or charge shot back into the game. That was bothersome to me not by a difficulty standpoint (though being used to having them for so many games only to having them taken out because some people whined abût the games being too easy with them was very annoying), but from a continuity standpoint (no in-story explanation was ever given as to why he lost those powers other than MM being ¨rusty¨). They can obviously make the two abillities a necessity to use in the games (tight ¨slide only¨ spots and enemies that require charge shots to beat).

    Of course, I’m not expecting them to do that, since I know people will whine about it.

  36. knucklesmega says:

    Still…………….Commando Man is no match for Mega Man! >=D

  37. Munchy says:

    I wonder if Commando Man’s stage will have the theme song from the original Commando, like Shade Man’s had secret Ghouls ‘n’ Ghosts music.

  38. Advent Axl says:

    Capcom is officially running out of ideas…

  39. Mega Man won’t have those powers, as noted in the article. Proto Man, however, will.

  40. Glitcher says:

    For a second there, I thought Commando Man was going to be a parody of Captain Commando.

    This news is pretty bad. No female RM, charge shot or slide? I’m surprised Capcom would neglect including a poster girl with this release, and the charge shot and slide is what I felt could have differentiated MM10 substantially from its predecessor. I reiterate my belief that Capcom is just recycling a simple game instead of innovating the franchise.

  41. bryon says:

    ^ I agree. I was already pissed about them using those ancient 8 bit graphics again. But no female robot master, no charge shot and no slide is unforgivable. And why can’t they bring back the rush adapters from megaman 6 and 7? Oh well that’s one $10 bill that will be staying in my pocket this march.

  42. Stefan says:

    NO Slide? No Charge Shot? That’s It,I’m Boycotting Capcom.

  43. LanceHeart says:

    @Stephan: Proto Man will have both and will be playable without having to buy DLC this time around.

  44. Proto Stryker says:

    ^ lies

  45. Proto Stryker says:

    Computer freaked out. Meant to say “@byron: lies”. Anyway. Totally looking forward to taking on Commando Man. I like that they brought back the Yashichi – I’m honestly surprised they didn’t have it in any of the other post-MM1 games till now. Weird.

  46. Proto Stryker says:

    And to the whiners complaining about no sliding or charge shot, grow the hell up. What good did the charge shot honestly do any of us in the first place? The games’ enemies just had more health anyway so that the charge shot was rendered both a necessity and utterly pointless. And sliding is cool, I can give you that much, but necessary to enjoy a Megaman game? Hardly. The old school approach to the series is working well and I’d like it to stay this way for now.

  47. Glitcher says:

    ^ Comments like that make me wonder if you’ve even played a Mega Man game, Proto Stryker. Enemy health was NOT increased to compensate for the charge shot, and many of them required a charge shot to be taken down in one hit, reducing the danger to yourself and keeping your speed up. Plus it had a strategic element when facing off against Robot Masters, making players think whether to charge up for a three-point hit or blast away like crazy. The slide was useful too, not only for speed runs but for generally avoiding attacks. But hey, if you think they’re so useless, why not try playing through MM4-6 or a MMX game without using a charge shot, slide or dash. I dare you.

  48. LanceHeart says:

    @Glitcher: Those three Classic games were created specifically to accommodate the fact that you had a charge shot and slide. Mega Man 3 is the only game where the slide, outside of places where it was necessary, was optional for completing the game (assuming you stocked up on E-Tanks).

    Proof of this was pretty much Mega Man Powered Up: Sliding and Charging broke the game beyond belief, because the game wasn’t created to require them.

  49. Proto Stryker says:

    Thanks, Lance. With the introduction of the slide, Glitcher, the games did make certain areas where having it was a necessity. I never said it was useless, you completely missed my point, which was that it was completely unnecessary to have included in the first place. The games that don’t include sliding work just fine, and yes, it does up the difficulty a bit as far as evading attacks. That’s all part of the experience, though, and I’m not quite sure you get that. You may have missed it yourself, because like me, you enjoy getting to charge your buster, but most all enemies pre-charge could be dispatched in one or two shots. Playing MM4/5/6 you’ll notice that many enemies take three or more easily – making the charge shot’s power pretty much equal to that of the regular buster in MM1/2/3. And yes, there are enemies that require the charge shot to kill, which is nice, but it doesn’t really change any real gameplay element.

    Though Sheep Man was kinda ridiculous, Commando man means BUISINESS, apparently, Wily is getting serious
