So, remember that issue of Nintendo Power? It’s out, along with Inafune’s interview.

The interesting part? A new Robot Master! Meet Commando Man, and see what he’s all about here.

Picking up from where we left off before with new stages, you can expect a new ice boss in charge of the glacier stage. It’s filled with snowmen with exploding heads and ice blocks which break if shot or touched. A sewer stage is filled with slug-like Mets, while a stadium features foes of different sports, including baseball-throwing robots and soccer ball platforms that rise when shot, plus a soccer goal mid-boss who acts as its own goalie.

The desert stage features what is said to be one of the toughest obstacles in the form of vision-obscuring sandstorms that can push you into unseen spikes and walls. That is, unless you manage to eke out a safe spot during the storm. There is also a computer themed stage which even has mouse pointer-like enemies.

For those who find developer Inti Creates’ efforts to be on the verge of overwhelming, they will find salvation in a familiar face– or rather, symbol. Capcom’s iconic Yashichi returns from way back in the very first Mega Man game, ready to refill the Blue Bomber’s Life and Weapons energy in its entirety. Need more? Then visit the between-level shop and stock up on the items you need, just as in Mega Man 9.

As alluded to before, Mega Man 10 features difficulty settings. Easy mode is said to make the game’s difficulty more in line with Mega Man 2, but a Hard mode is there for those who want and can take the punishment.

Nintendo Power notes that the game will also contain multiple modes, in-game achievement-style challenges, online ranking, and downloadable content. But unfortunately, there will be no female Robot Masters this time out; instead, Producer Keiji Inafune allowed the developers a chance to create their own bosses for the Blue Bomber’s latest venture. Hopefully Mega Man can hold up, as he’ll be sporting the same move set as last time; that is, no sliding or charge shots. Better call on the bigger bro if that’s your need.

Finally, the most important item of note is the release date: get your weapons ready for a very Mega March in 2010.

In addition to screens of the new game, volume 250 of Nintendo Power features a full interview with Mega Mastermind Keiji Inafune. So what are you waiting for? Go out a buy the issue!

Special thanks to The Red Priest for the tip!

Fine,I might have overreacted with the charge shot. But I’m still pissed that Rock still lacks his Sliding ability. Oh and for the record,Protoman isn’t Supposed to slide,he’s supposed to dash. I can’t believe capcom screwed that up. The reason why I’m so pissed at Rocks ability loss is because I feel that it makes him seem really inferior compared to the other Mega Men.

One more thing,Capcom had better explain how Rock lost his 2 coolest abilities in this game(after all 9 and this game take place after MM&B).

  2. LanceHeart says:

All of Mega Man’s abilities are basically upgrade parts. The Slide, Mega Buster, even the vents at the back of his helmet were all changes made to his battle form.

That he retired them is somewhat strange, but not outside the realm of possibility (then again, after ten years one would expect them to have rusted in that amount of time…_)

Of the lack of a charge shot, I really couldn’t be happier.
The advent of charge-shooting brought about a fairly irritating gameplay dynamic… Certainly there was the option of charging up a shot or blasting away, but for anyone but speedrunners it always made more strategic sense to keep a charge shot in reserve whenever possible, pestering the classic “jump and shoot to catchy music” formula with a chronically held-down button and prolonged periods of beeping obscuring the background music.

But then, bothersome as it might have been, in general special weapons still tended to pale in comparison to its usefulness, often reducing them to “get through the boss easy!” keys rather than actual field combat tools, to the point that the Zero and ZX games all but did away with them… And wasn’t the joy of beating the classic Mega Man levels supposed to be that sense of newfound power you get from collecting the boss weapons?

As for the 8-bit style, I won’t pretend I wouldn’t be happier with something that looked nicer, but if recycling the classic look cuts down on expenses and allows the series to stay alive, I’m all for it.

@Glitcher: I’ve already done that. It’s quite fun. It just takes a while longer. c: The charge shot was never necessary since I can Rapid Fire well enough that I have a good stream going out most of the time. The same went for X, but it took even LONGER. it’s like the bosses are invincible FOREVER just from one shot.

AS for Dash/Slide…there were parts and bosses where those were necessary. However in Mega Man 9, it actually wasn’t needed if you reacted fast enough.

  5. Franklin says:

Easy mode is suppose to be like MegaMan 2. How in the blue hell is that easy?

  6. Stefan says:

Now that I think about it,You guys were right about the Charge Shot. A 10-shot rapid fire would be way better….and cooler.

Besides the Slide,I’m also very disappointed that their will be no female robot master this time. Also I really hope Bass gets to be part of the story.

  7. LaZodiac says:

I figured the lack of charge and slide made sense considering what he was fighting. In Megaman 9, he’s fighting what are supposed to be allies. He removes his charge and slide so he’s not so strong he blows them up, instead fighting them like you do in Powered Up to save them. Same thing in MM10, he’s not here to murder them outright, just take whatever ingrediant they have.

Protoman, meanwhile, doesn’t have feelings for them, so he charge shots them all to death.

  8. Fishman says:

    @Franklin–

Rockman 2 was horrendously easy compared to 1, where have you been? I find it difficult to die in Rockman 2 to anyone not named Quickman or Boo Beam Trap anymore.

I hope Hard Mode is a decent challenge, like 9’s DLC difficulties. I definitely want the bosses to take less damage and dish out more pain, too.

  9. Burning Typhoon says:

I don’t care about the charged shots, but, why no sliding? That way, you can do a little more with the stage design, because megaman can get through 1 block spaces…..

  10. Gurp says:

You know what, screw God of War. Megaman 10’s what I’m getting in March!

  11. RockyRaccoon says:

@stefan: Well it’s a good thing Capcom doesn’t need to explain $#!@ to you! :D

  12. Todd says:

    No female robot master.

    Lame. Very lame.

  13. KaiserWarrior says:

The lack of charge and slide, while a bit odd, aren’t game-breakers for me. Mega Man 2 is still a great, fun-to-play classic, and it doesn’t have those. And besides, they’re still in the game if you really want them, just play Proto Man. I’m glad that Capcom is distinguishing the characters in something as simplistic as an 8-bit megaman game, though in truth I would have preferred it if, say, Mega had the slide and Proto had the charge to differentiate maneuverability vs. power. But then, we’ve yet to see what 3P can do.

As for the style? As others have said, I’m all for it. Of course I would prefer a game that had gorgeous HD sprites and multi-parallaxed backgrounds, I think it’s safe to say we all would. But if this is what is necessary to reduce cost enough to let Inticreates keep making classic Mega Man games, then I’ll gladly take it and bask in the nostalgia. The fact of the matter is that 2D games are a dying breed, and as they die, a lot of our treasured classics do too — look at what happened when they tried to take X into 3D, and how vastly superior the Z and ZX (aka X 2.0) games were to those. I’m just glad they’re doing *something* in 2D.

  14. Chris says:

Where does it say that there are no female Robot Masters? Did Inafune himself say so? Why?

  15. Thanks for taking the time to help, I really apprciate it.
