E-Tank Energy Drinks Coming to America (Updated)
Good news, everyone! According to AAA Distribution, it appears that the popular yet peculiar-tasting E-Tank energy drinks might be coming to America. Their site has a listing where a case of 24 can be ordered for $72. Or, if you prefer singles, Big Bad Toystore will be selling them for $2.99 a pop in January 2010.
And the bad news (price aside)?

…the manufacturer seems to have missed the point of why people wanted them in the first place almost entirely.
It’s merely a hunch, but I get the feeling the other side doesn’t look like an E-Tank from the Classic series games. So much for novelty.
It will be interesting to see how these perform, in light of these circumstances.

Update: Thanks to Community member Flame, we have the following response from Boston America as to why the can was changed:
Thanks so much for your input and I do understand your concern. However please note that Boston America’s first concept for the drink WAS the same version that was produced in Japan , however Capcom rejected the design and asked us to move forward with the 8-bit concept we currently have available. We were disappointed too!
Thanks again for letting us know your thoughts!
So at least there is still hope.

…what does it taste like?
FAIL
If it’s in fact the same product, it tastes like an uncarbonated, more subdued flavor of Sprite.
*face palm*
Sad times… And yet I want one anyway. Blah.
…. Well, concerning the opinions of the people who’ve tasted the stuff, I wouldn’t know if I wanted one or not…
… I guess robots tastes are different from humans…
But they took away the…
… It’s called an /E-TANK/, DAMNIT…
Well, I guess it’s back to plastering a gaint E on my blue canteen…
It saddens me that US marketers for some odd reason(Usually CoA) doesn’t know that there are certian reasons for stuff…T_T
@ marketers: DO YOU SEE THAT STUFF ON THE E-TANK IN THE GAME!? WHY!?
….yeah, I’d still buy one though…>___>’
..has anyone seen marketers in the US that make sense? They seem to be misplaced.
“Hey, the Japanese seem to enjoy this energy drink with a giant E on it.”
“Let’s sell it to Americans, but put a sprite of Megaman over it!”
Where did common sense go?
Wow uh….apparently the people marketing in Capcom of America havn’t played Megaman EVER.
That doesn’t count!
This goes beyond epic fail. This, my friends, is something I like to call “Legendary Fail.”
Excuuuuse me? Wowwww… I got sooo excited for a moment………. T_T
Perhaps this is why the Classic series is pretty much dead. Whenever Capcom does something cool, all people can do is complain. Yes, it would have been cool to have the E on the can, yes they missed the point entirely, but is it really that big a deal? Can’t it be cool Classic Series merchandise anyway? Sometimes hate is deserved (Megaman 2 iPhone, anyone? Unplayable and nothing like the original even after a patch.), but something like this? Just my thoughts.
The whole point WAS the giant E
It was just a novelty, nothing more. It probably tastes like ass anyway
People wanted it ONLY for the ‘E’
@Windsor Genesis
Y’know, once again I totally agree, granted I do understand where everyone is coming from (I remember how excited I was when I first saw the japanese energy drink with the big “E” on the side of it) and yes it is a tad disappointing that they’ve changed it for release here but these aren’t reasons to hate on it. Instead we should be supporting it and every other release of Mega Man merchandise that finds its way over here because incase most of you didn’t notice, compared to many other franchises, there isn’t much in terms of marketing or merchandise for Mega Man here in North America. So what little we get we should support or else it could be gone for good and if you don’t believe me well then I dare any of you to go to a local (regular- not pawn shop or specialty store) retail store and find me a pair of Parachute Pants. Why can’t you? Because people stopped supporting it so it went away. The same holds true for anything really (including Mega Man). So suck it up and give it a try when it comes out (I know I will).
P.S. – @Shake: “It probably tastes like ass anyway”
We won’t know that until we try it now will we?
We should support releases like this…when they’re not butchered. This is analogous to if Capcom released a horribly butchered of MMX for the GBA, but someone wanted to support it just so we could get a horribly butchered port of X2. My point is, the merchandise doesn’t matter if it’s butchered. What’s next, a Mega Man doll with a GI Joe face (JOKING
)? I’ll stick to the artbooks, thanks.
It’s just hard because what message do we want to put across to the marketers? I mean, the E was the hole point of the item… it’s not much of an E-Tank without it, I doubt it REALLY tastes and acts like an E-Tank, so therefore, it’s not an E-Tank. Now should we support them for doing things wrong, or should we buy it anyway, allowing them to give us their second-thought merchandise in hopes of treasures?
To be fully honest, I will be buying a few anyway just for the sake of what’s on the can. I WOULD like them to give us their crap in hope for treasures xD. Because it’s probably that or nothing at all o-o;;…
For goodness sake people its just an energy drink. YES the novelty purpose of them has been lost on Capcom. YES this is an embarrasing bungle on their part. BUT it is still a Mega Man product so I hope to get at least one just to support the Mega Man franchise……not so much the product itself.
damn. what is americas problem with crapping up capcom products?
Oh well, I’ll get one (4) anyway.
Can we give them feedback on this? It would be nice if we could tell them where they went wrong.
so um…Americans missed the point entirely, what’s the big deal? they always miss the point
@Axl-fox
True….
Lol! For adults only…
