Welcome to Videoland!

If you’ve been looking for a legal way to watch episodes of Captain N: The Game Master (as well as The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, The Legend of Zelda, Sonic Underground, Pole Position, and even cartoons not based on video games) without dropping the money on the DVD sets, then you’re in luck.

The peculiarly-named website Jaroo is described by nerdblog Topless Robot as being like “Hulu for kids,” except the material shown on the site isn’t new and current stuff, but stuff that is rather old.

There aren’t very many episodes of any given show available presently, but “new” ones are added at regular intervals, with dates given at the bottom of the page for any given show. Fortunately for Mega Man fans with a bit of curiosity about 20-year old licensing deals (or those who are simply masochists), not only is the pilot episode available, but also the two-part episodes “Videolympics” and “Mega Trouble in Mega Land,” the latter of which contains some very… interesting takes on the villainous Robot Masters of the first Mega Man game.

For those interested in learning more about the series, you can read its entry in our Mega Man Universe wiki.

Ugh…..please don’t remind us of Captain N the Game Master. I saw it again recently and all the characters (including Mega Man) are butchered horribly in that show. Don’t even get me started on Simon Bellmont in that show.

  2. Sammy says:

*clasps hands together and rubs ‘em* Hello, YouTube Poop sources…Now I REALLY need some Sony Vegas!

… Anyone else think that Captain N Mega looks like a Midjet Quint? And I mean worse than the midjet he already is.

  3. Chris says:

OHHHHHHH YEAH, definitely, and as the nostalgia critic pointed out, “he sounds like if Popeye smoked an entire Marlboro factory!”

  4. Rock-X says:

Unfortunately, Chris, I have to agree with you on this. Looking back on the show even I, an old fan of the series, ask myself why or how I managed to watch this. Much like the Turbo Season of Power Rangers, I honestly wish I knew the answers, but I can’t. I listened to a youtuber’s review of the show’s character designs (especially on the Robot Masters). She said they seemed to be based not on how kids saw the video game characters, but on how the adults (i.e. parents) saw them. I for one agree with that sentiment.

  5. fullmetalbelmont says:

    This…is just awful…

  6. Eh, I don’t mind the show as much in retrospect. It’s little more than a historical footnote, like Adam West’s Batman or Superfriends are to that character.

  7. fullmetalbelmont says:

At least the characters looked right in Batman.

  8. Or we could throw in Schumacher. Point is, I think it’s just something to look back on and laugh about now, and I also think it’s cool that Mega Man has enjoyed enough popularity that such a thing could even exist.

Granted, at the time when it was the ONLY thing we had, it was a bit less cool, but it’s been almost 20 years, and no real harm was done.

  9. Munchy says:

Oh god, I’ve watched the entire Captain N DVD set.

“Painful” doesn’t even begin to describe the suffering it has caused. I probably lost about 10% of my capacity to think because of that thing. Don’t pay for it. Even better, just don’t watch it. Its taint will forever rot your brain. It is one of those shows that makes you question whether good writing can exist.

  10. Munchy says:

Though I will admit, I found Mother Brain’s voice actor pretty hilarious. It seems to me that a lot of these “game-to-cartoon” shows all have the same flaw – the villain has, by light years, the best and funniest voice talent. Case in point: Long John Baldry as Robotnik.

  11. Stefan says:

You guys are joking, right? Captain N was Awesome.

  12. Gaia says:

@Munchy: Remember Medabots? It was actually an anime based off Natsume of Japan’s VG Medarot, and possibly Medarot 2.

Now this would be an amusing site to check out.

  13. Chris says:

    @Stefan

Well, to each his own. At the time (when we saw it when we were kids) it was quite awesome to us. But more so than most shows of the 80′s, this one was quite painful to re-visit (for me at least….if you like it then all the power to ya).

  14. Jaryl says:

Cutman scares the heck outa me on this pic … *ahem* … well, I’ve never seen the TV-”Captain N”, I recently just found the old comics of CN, where only Pit and Samus from Nintendo were in the main-cast, aside from the Princess (forgot her name …) and Captain N.

  15. quaziko says:

Wow, I don’t know how they got everything, literally everything, so wrong, haha. Some of the music in the background was the only thing that made any sense…I mean sensicus.

  16. Chris says:

LOL, gotta love Pit in that showicus…:P

  17. pstart says:

Any cartoon that uses the games’ actual music gets a thumbs up from me

  18. Jaryl> The Valiant Captain N comics were awesome. In fact, all the Valiant comics were awesome… except Mario, sadly. That one was really hit or miss, and with more of the latter, unfortunately.

I wonder which version of Mega Man they were going to use when he was set to show up, before it got axed.

  19. Glitcher says:

Let’s see, I can either pay to watch these episodes on Jaroo, or watch them for free on YouTube or FilesTube and and try to outrun the FBI for the rest of my life. Difficult choice…

  20. Glitcher> …Jaroo is free. And legal.

  21. Girla PurpleHeart says:

Even though those shows are horrible, I’ll Poop them with my YouTube Poop magic. 8D

  22. Rock-X says:

Girla: Please don’t. If there’s anything I can’t stand more than overzealous EXE series Haters its the Pooping on Youtube.

  23. Girla PurpleHeart says:

@Rock-X: Hey! What’s wrong with pooping crappy shows? It’s funny as hell. xD But eh, I don’t pay attention to hatred.

  24. Rock-X says:

Girla: Its not hatred that makes Pooping on Youtube annoying as hell to me, its about how funny it is to people: Your definition of funny ≠ My definition of funny.

  25. Chris says:

    STOP SAYING “POOP”!

  26. RockManFan9 says:

What’s wrong with Cut Man? He looks like an idiot. And I hate to say it, but so does Wily. (Sorry Wily.) (And Cut Man too.)
