For those interested in the compositions and works of the album Chiptuned Rockman, Gamasutra has recently posted an interview with Producer Hally and composers Ryo Kawakami, Akari Kaida, Hiroki Isogai, and Manabu Namiki. They talk about working on the compilation, how it came about, and how they think it could help bridge the gap between oldschool chiptunes and more contemporary video game music.

Just incredible. I hope anyone who just thinks ‘aren’t those songs already 8-bit??’ read this and consider all the work that goes into these songs, and that it’s not some quick cash-in.

    Nice read.

As for the album, I liked it, but found most of it kind of “meh”.

“Meh” as in; fun to listen to once in a blue moon, but not something I’d be listening to regularly.

I suppose I find a lot of it interesting technically, but not musically. Take Virt’s track. I find it somewhat cool and amusing, but really it’s just a bunch of different melodies mashed together in a sometimes cringe-worthy “ear-rape”, if you will. Not musically pleasant.

Iono. That’s my ignorant two cents.
