Yellow Devil Comes to Life
Posted on October 24th, 2009 by LBD "Nytetrayn"
Generally speaking, we’ve all had our nightmarish encounters with the various Devil robots of the different Mega Man series, be they Yellow, Green, Shadow, or Rainbow. Thankfully, they’re all just make believe, and nothing like that exists in real life.
But, that might just change soon enough, as iRobot reveals its first steps toward realizing a morphing “blob ‘bot.” See for yourself:
One would think they would at least have the sense to develop a working Thunder Beam first, in case the project gets out of control.
Thanks to Dr. Neko for the find.

This is seriously amazing. Man the technology. Now we need a network system kin to that of Rockman.EXE.
Whoever the designer is really did a good job of making the vid seem epic, even though it’s not particularly.
The blob thing is interesting, and once scientists can miniaturize the “thinking” parts of the robot, then it could be truly portable. Those wires sticking out of the back are unsightly and restrictive.
My only hope, if this thing ever somehow becomes self-aware, is that by then, man will have found a way to pause time for tiny bits at a time, thus making our puny human weapons more effective against the beast.
BUMOMOMOMO! BUMOMOMOMOMOMOOOO!!
Folks, we have just witnessed the beginning of the end.
Mega Man can teach us a lot about robotics, apparently.
I don’t think Keiji actually would have seen this coming. And to be honest this is about as foreign a concept to me right now as “everyone having a portable network device and being interconnected with each other on a global scale.” “Currency handled through digital means.” and “Star Trek is the reason why your cell phones and gameboys flip.” were to me 10 years ago.
The diagram drawn looks exactly like a cell
Quite fascinating, this looks like something you’d see on Daily Planet on Discovery Channel. While like Adam has said this doesn’t appear to be anything earth shattering and really it isn’t right now, with a little more development it could be a real advancement for robotics and have many potential applications. I just want to see it split into pieces and re-form, now THAT would have blown my mind.
@ Miki
I agree, if they can do this with robotics, let’s see them give us our own “Network Navigators” to explore the internet, and possibly even do battle with one another. Okay so I’m dreaming a little, but hey….can’t a guy dream?
@Sniper Joe
Indeed, it does.
@ Mr. Metool
LOL, I agree with your statement that free pancakes should be available for the underpriveleged and how you go on to say that fishing is both a fun and readily inexpensive pasttime.
OH MAH GAH!
THE HORROR!
IT’S ALIVE!
O_O
Imagine the possibilities if an AI was using this to change appearances. Being able to mimic something as large as humans and being able to deflate into something as small as a school bag…
The possibilities could be endless. (I’ll let you marinate with that in mind)
@LanceHeart: *holds up picture* Have you seen this boy?
“Thanks to Dr. Neko for the find.”
Dr Neko is still alive? HEY DR NEKO, STOP SLACKING OFF LOOKING VIDS ON YOUTUBE AND START WORKING ON THE ROCKMAN SCANLATION AGAIN!!!
I’ve always wanted to live through a post-apocalyptic man VS machine epic!
So don’t be surprised if the soccer ball starts moving on its own…
JSEL… Very interesting indeed. Yeah, the wires are unsightly, but this is a prototype design. It’s being built for function. When they make it to the scale they’re aiming for, then they can worry about silly little things like wires.
What we should do now though is see if we can turn the Devil name into an acronym similar to JSEL.
That looks so… wrong.
Ok… am I gonna be the only one who says what everyone is thinking?
……FLESHLIGHT, MEET YOUR ENDDDD!!!
This looks like the time that future folks would like to come back to and find that guy so they can, you know, kill ‘em, so thier own future world will no longer be taken over by gelatinous morphing robots.
Seriously though, that’s awesome and a little scary. Wonder what that kinda stuff will do for future prosthetic organs?
