CoroCoro shows Operate Shooting Star battle system w/ Star Force MegaMan
As we previously reported, Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star would contain what appears to be MegaMan Battle Network’s classic battle system. A couple of images from the latest issue of CoroCoro reveals that both MegaMans will be playable in this format. The first image shows a battle setup between both MegaMans. Star Force MegaMan will be able to use his lock-on attack, and apparently his shield as well (though this is not shown in the article pictures), but MegaMan.EXE will not, having his own exclusive abilities, so the two will have differences. Both Rockmans will be playable in the game’s storyline as well, though it’s unknown how this will work.
The second page shows that Star Force MegaMan will himself be able to use chips and Navi chips. The attack with Omega-Xis is one such Navi chip. It’s unknown if this Navi chip is somehow exclusive to Star Force MegaMan. Program Advances are shown as one of MegaMan.EXE’s moves, so it’s unknown if Star Force MegaMan will have access to them. Next, along with the minimap there is a similar PET screen to the one from Battle Network 5 DS, albeit without 3D graphics it appears.
Finally, though mostly cut off, there is mention the original Battle Network’s antagonist group, WWW (World Three), so they will likely still play a major role (perhaps with ClockMan as well?).
Overall, the theme of this month’s issue is to illustrate the differences between MegaMan.EXE and Star Force MegaMan, and asking the reader which one he’ll choose. We will continue to post more information as we obtain it.

huh, I thought shooting star rockman would have his own 3d battle style. don’t know what to think of this, but I’ll probably like it.
I was hoping they’d still use the EXE battle system, but put it in 3D. Maybe not so practical style wize though since it’s hard to make things look clean cut.
For me lokes anytime good because i like megaman(and i hope megaman star force 3 comming soon in europe) when that game comming out then i buy it
i wonder in what way the story is? (sorry for my bad english but i think is okay.)
AlphaOmega, I’m not 100% sure but I think SF3 only got a JPN/USA release.
Shouldn’t stop shops from getting it in though, most of my Mega Man games for handhelds are from the US.
And this game still has me horribly intrigued. I can’t wait for the Tokyo Game Show (not that I’m going, but I want to hear about it).
Well at least they got a minimap … I’m tired playing starforce without a MAP !!
Nice MBN style battle system.
I was hoping for this system. Now lets just hope for a new thing in the battle system.
Lock-On Combos or Program Advances for big hits?
Sounds like a unique choice in battle style. Who knows if Star Rockman can’t actually use them though. We’ll find out, hopefully :U
@ Enzan Chaud: I don’t really see why SF MegaMan wouldn’t be able to use Program Advances, but the article kind of leans that way. Really though, I think the lock-on attack ability will be much more useful.
This is becoming quite interesting. Oh wow, the gameplay possibilities…
The article seems to hint that you can play as either one through every scenario in the game. I wonder if there might be some dialouge differences between each character to accomodate that.
…Unless if both just appear in every cutscene, with the other implied to be invisibly tagging along in the overworld.
@Heat Man
SF Megaman could essentially use program advances in SF3, so I don’t see why they would take it away from him.
what it bothers me is that Subaru looks like a freaking megaman.exe edited sprite
@Shinsu: That’s my sentiment too. I don’t see why SF MegaMan can’t use Program Advances outside of giving MegaMan.EXE an edge. But I still believe having lock-on is the better perk.
Woo! More sprites for me to deface.
Lock on broke the battle system…
Will the battle system be like 1-3 or 4-6? (1-3 are better imo)
My bro says that Star Force Mega Man’s sprite is just a sprite edit….
and it obviously isn’t! It looks cool…
AWESOME!!!
I choose YOU, Pikachu!!
Having lock-on in Battle Network is just way too cheap… Takes away the whole use of strategy between long distance and short distance attacks. : /
Wow, looks like I’m the only guy (on the front page of the comments as of this message) who likes the Star Force battle style. o_o
I’m guessing that they really couldn’t use it, since that system didn’t have area grabbing, just eating, which is one of the old Battle Network strategies, among other things. >_<
Spike: Which is why they need to give something to Rockman.EXE that offsets that advantage in some way, otherwise I see everyone and their mother playing through the game with just Subaru.
For some reason, the images appear to be quite vauge on what Rockman.EXE gets. We’re not even sure if they’re exclusive to EXE. We don’t even know if there have been any changes to any of the Program Advances, and what kind of style system EXE may have access to. Heck, I even see them possibly putting in a Navi Customizer. So we’ll have to wait on this.
Then again, this is Capcom we’re talking about, they wouldn’t know balance in terms of the EXE series even if it hit them in the face, with the grand example being EXE 3 Blue getting that horrifyingly broken FolderBack while White users were stuck with decent-at-best NaviRecycle.
Folder Back was awesome… broken but awesome.
@alilatias
Exactly what you said. You’d think after 2 games, you’d recognize the exploits a bit better. Especially since they did balance a load of other things.
But god yes, I hope they put in a navi customizer as well. And styles. Some kind of style change for Subaru? Seems like a logical enough step.
And some more content. Seeing just BN with some Subaru pics mangled in just isn’t fullfiling this hype for me. Sure it’s nice, but it’s nowhere near the images of SSR1.
Hell, Subaru looks like a simple edit of Netto!
Also heat, just for the sake of it, I disagree with lock on being that imba. I think they’ll cripple it in a way that it’s not so good.
Lastly, I’m hoping for the Dreamsword PA. I mean shit, beta sword? What’s that all about?
…WHY would thay have the lock on!! it just defeats the purpose of the area grab, which is one of the greatest things in the battle network series! * if your listening capcom just scrap the starforce series all together!! Bring back classic!! We (the REAL Gamers) dont want a cheap rip off of a classic series! We dont want you morons to use us as market tools and sell our hobbys short!! we didnt spend years of social outcast just to watch you Suits mess this up!!!!
Blue Bombers cousin: I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or not. If you aren’t and you’re not trying to show Classic and X fans how ridiculous they sound (in which I don’t understand why you’d do it here and now since no one’s attacking EXE/SSR in that manner yet)…
…Wow…
I don’t understand how this all works? Are they changing the main story around?
Hmm… I guess my decision has now changed to “I’ll wait ’till the Japanese release to see if I’ll buy it.”
Also, I think the term “real gamer” is absolutely ridiculous. It’s like an admission that you have no argument.
I’m really invested in the Mega Man series, but I wouldn’t consider myself a ‘real’ gamer because of that.
I wouldn’t call myself that at all, actually, no matter what game I played.
I quite like the sprite of Shooting rockman. I just wonder, how will they balance out both characters?
Haa…IT’S VIRUS BUSTING TIME! BUCK WILD STYLE!
BN Battle system? I’ll buy this game now. Starforce should’ve had this system to begin with.
More like… BATTLE ROUTINE, SET! STAY FROSTY!!
@RegalX7: Lol, yah, omega xis said that so many times in starforce 3
I am really liking the looks of how they are using BN’s battle system for both Megamans! I wonder what they are going to do to the difficulty due to SF Megaman still having his abilities from his games?
>Then again, this is Capcom we’re talking about, they wouldn’t know balance in terms of the EXE series even if it hit them in the face, with the grand example being EXE 3 Blue getting that horrifyingly broken FolderBack while White users were stuck with decent-at-best NaviRecycle.
Looks like someone hasn’t played MegaMan Battle Network 6~
Beast Out granted lock on and wasn’t overpowered, although it was for three turns. However, lock on would probably have the same limitations as in Star Force with having to align yourself with the opponent, anyway; Shield would honestly be more broken if you could activate it with a simple button press like in Star Force, and if there aren’t many Break type chips.
I hope the Cross system is in this game, and I’m also particularly worried about the Chip selection. A previous screenshot showed that MegaMan still has the incredibly useless Shotgun/Crossgun chips so … uh, ew?
Salad: I actually did play Battle Network 6 (and it’s actually my favorite Battle Network game).
While they did a very good job with keeping the Beast-Outs balanced in that game, the different crosses between each version weren’t particularly balanced at all. Falzar version generally had far more useful crosses, and I don’t think I have to explain why when you compare the types of bonuses and abilities each cross in each version grant.
Then again, I haven’t extensively played any of the Star Force games yet, so they might have improved in that regard.
Nah, Star Force is okay, but nowhere near the depth and fun of Battle Network 6. The only good thing going for Star Force is that it has wifi, so you have a larger amount of player base to fight.
While Gregar is considered to be inferior, everyone seems to overlook the cross beast charges which can do an aimed 220 trap destroying, invis piercing attack per chip, which is enough damage to hit through an unsupported LifeAura, along with some other good charges. Slash Cross’s charge shot is ridiculous enough on its own, really; Elec Cross is also very fast. You have to build very specifically for it but Gregar can be formidable also; I’m always up for playing a game, hahah. (I do main Falzar, and did think Gregar was useless for a long while, but beast over colonel force as your trump card along with the crosses/cross beast is very powerful.)
Wow, this looks nice except that…
Oh, crap, I have to fight Starforce Megaman as Megaman.EXE?
With Starforce MM’s lock-on abilty compared to my bad battle chip timing…. (X_X) ….I would get pwn’d 5 billion times over. I mean, even Cybeast Gregar and Gregar-Cross Megaman and maybe even Bass is NOTHING compared to this.
I think I will just wait for the rom file and cheat codes so that I don’t get pwn’d.
Instant Delete Cheat FTW!
i was hoping that if you played as .exe, you battled his way, and if you played as starforce, you battled his way.
