With the impending release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on PSN and XBLA, you’d think that Capcom would stop at advertising it everywhere.  Enter Gamestop, who have now added a PS3 version of the game’s retail pack.

Hold on now, the game isn’t coming out in disk format.  It’s just a voucher for the game at a whopping $19.99.  Thankfully, you’re not just paying extra for a plastic box.  Inside the box you’ll also find other goodies:

  • Redemption Code for full game
  • DVD case with sleeve
  • Data DVD with exclusive artwork (wallpapers, icons, character and content art), 4 trailers and screenshots
  • 8 page color manual with artwork and moves list
  • 1 month free subscription to Marvel Digital Comics ($9.99 value)
  • 2000 Capcom-Unity points – can be used for prizing and auctions

There you have it.  So there IS a disk, just not the one you were thinking.

    *sigh*
    I really need to get a PS3 now…

Don’t worry, if this thing is true it’ll likely get some reaction from the Xbox 360 crowd. I don’t see this actually being an exclusive bonus for PS3 owners.

  3. Shake says:

Damn…I’m thinking Capcom is..making a new business strategy here?

That’s right, screw retail and cut the middle man out of it.

  4. MaddogExplosive says:

Whoa, free subscription to Marvel’s digital service. That’s good stuff. Still, I’m too crappy at fighting games to feel like this is a smart purchase for me right now.

  5. SeraphMan says:

@LanceHeart: You mean like how Gamestop had exclusive Joker maps for Arkham Asylum and squat for 360? I wouldn’t be surprised if 360 got the shaft here too.

  6. LanceHeart says:

@SeraphMan: If Capcom decided to make this game’s retail kit PS3-only, that’s their decision. I was just stating how I think it wouldn’t be the case, considering how Capcom has rarely given multiplatform games exclusive non-game content.
