Character Information

Roll is a female household robot created by Dr. Light, and she is like a younger sister to Mega Man. She was created to do general housework such as cooking and cleaning, though when not doing such chores she assists Dr. Light with his work.

Being a robot created for household tasks, Roll greatly enjoys cleaning, cooking and the like. She generally has a kind and peaceful personality, and worries about Mega Man during his battles. Roll is also said to love animals, although she hates cockroaches.

Roll's strong point is being very helpful. Her dream is to someday create a hospital where she could help many people. However, Roll is also said to be somewhat cowardly, though this may not be representative of her later appearances (see below).

In most of the earlier Mega Man series games Roll is a minor supporting character, often just appearing at the end to greet Mega Man's return if she appears at all. In some of the later games she holes a more directly supportive role. For example, in Mega Man 8 Roll can create items for Mega Man at Dr. Light's laboratory, and in Mega Man & Bass Roll will give hints about a stage through a purchasable communicator.

Roll's first appearance as a playable character is in the Japan-only Monopoly-type game Wily & Right's Rockboard. After that, she later appeared as one of the racers in Mega Man Battle & Chase. Since then she hadn't appeared as a playable character in a game until Mega Man Powered Up, nearly 10 years later. In this game she is a hidden playable character, and she attacks by swinging a broom. She can also be equipped with various costumes.

Roll has also provided the role of "damsel in distress" a couple times. In one of the game modes in Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters Roll must be rescued. Also in the game Super Adventure Rockman, Roll is reduced to a near comatose state due to the activity by Dr. Wily and Ra Moon, and will die if they're not stopped.

Trivia

  • Roll's name comes from the musical genre rock and roll. This works as somewhat of a pun, since her brother Mega Man was originally named Rock.
