Current Developments

The information just started pouring in after the rating for a game titled Mega Man 9 was seen to have been registered on an Australian government site around June 10th.

On June 26th, The Mega Man Network received Nintendo Power screens with exclusive screenshots and an interview with Keiji Inafune about the game. News spread fast, and big gaming sites started citing what we posted, adding more to the fact that the game was actually coming. This still left us without any type of announcement from Japan, which made some Rockman followers skeptical still.

On July 2nd, scans from Famitsu confirmed the game was indeed coming to Japan. The scan shows a black and gray sprite of Mega Man and as no other colors are shown, it's assumed this is not a simple palette swap from beating a Robot Master. More information to come as it comes our way.

Story Summary

It is the year 20XX, and the world breathes a collective sigh of relief now that Mega Man has once again put an end to Dr. Wily's plans for world domination. But then... Robots start going wild all over the world! Could this be Dr. Wily up to his old tricks!?

A news report comes on, as shown from Dr. Light's lab. Mega Man recognizes the robots and they both realize that they are all creations of Dr. Light! Dr. Wily comes on the screen, claiming that he has nothing to do with Dr. Light's robots and that this is what Dr. Light has planned all along. A conversation from the two doctors pops up and it shows Dr. Light asking Dr. Wily to join him in his quest for world domination, followed by Wily rejecting the offer, claiming he has "changed his evil ways". Dr. Wily has created his own robots to stop the treacherous Dr. Light, but lacks the funds to complete them, and requests that the people of the world donate money to his cause. A steady stream of phone calls are coming to the lab, all of them complaining about and denouncing Dr. Light. Mega Man gets ready to get down to the bottom of this, with Rush and Beat by his side. Dr. Light leave Mega Man with a simple warning: "Be careful! You haven't done this in awhile."

Game Overview

The game mimics the "retro" 8-Bit look of Mega Man 1-6 on the Nintendo Entertainment System. In an interview with Nintendo Power, Inafune claimed the game would be pushing 8-bit graphics to their limits in order to get the best out of game. More information to come later.
