Here’s a video feature I’ve wanted to make for a little while now. You may recall how Mega Man 9′s Endless Attack mode paid homage to classic Mega Man by using a few stage segments from Mega Man and Mega Man 2. As to be expected, Mega Man 10′s Endless Attack mode has some homages of its own, quite a few more in fact! If you’re a long time Mega Man player you probably recognized a lot of these already, but here they are compared side by side. The video runs a bit long, but there turned out to be a lot of homages! And who knows, maybe there are even more. It’s not like I have every stage memorized (just almost). Perhaps you can point out others.

ScrewAttack has added a new Top 10 list to their archives, and this time the focus is squarely on– what else? –Mega Man. And with the release of Mega Man 10 this week, that means no Mavericks, no Neo Arcadians, and no NetNavis– it’s all about the Robot Masters.

Specifically, they detail who they think are the ten worst Robot Masters Mega Man has conquered. Not included on the list itself is anyone from Mega Man 10, though they note that Sheep Man was the inspiration for such a list. And without further ado:

All said, not a bad score, and it is in keeping with other sites’ praise for the title. Now, let’s just hope that Capcom shows that discretion is the better part of valor, and gives the Classic Blue Bomber enough of a break for the developers’– and fans’– batteries to recharge. In between now and then, a new Mega Man X game might be a good way to keep momentum up without overdoing it, wouldn’t you say?

UPDATE: IGN also has this short hands-on report of the game, and while not much new information is given from this account, it does state that aside from the eight regular Robot Master stages, there will be eight more stages, which IGN believes hints at two final castles. Furthermore, the Challenge Mode will include 88 total challenges.

Following up my previous post, here is the actual video footage of my adventures in Mega Man 10′s stadium stage. The first two videos are the game’s normal difficulty, and the third is easy difficulty. You should also keep an eye on Takes On Tech, as Doug of that site also recorded my gameplay for his own reporting, and his camera looked a lot better than the one I brought!

I also have a little Q&A with Jason Allen of Capcom that I need to transcribe, but for right I’m just… so incredibly tired. Goodnight and enjoy the footage!

Update: Digital Chumps has some of their own footage that shows the stage in better color levels, and louder sound from the setup. It appears the spiked soccer balls actually aren’t instant death as I had suspected (but I didn’t wait around to get hit by them ;P). That being the case, however, means the stage demo featured no instant death traps at all. Is Inti Creates lightening up a little? Or perhaps they’re just pampering the reviewers.

A short while back, we were introduced to some videos that attempted to dispel the idea that the weapon Top Spin in fact sucked. Today Redmage1987 attempts to prove that same fact, but now about Mega Man 5′s Charge Kick. The video above is the first in a series of eight stages played entirely with Charge Kick, except for the end bosses. You can see the rest here. Honestly I don’t know if I ever really thought Charge Kick sucked, but I know I hardly ever use it myself. But then the weapons in Mega Man 5 and 6 are very forgettable to me.

Now I’d like to see someone try to make a video proving to me that Sakugarne doesn’t suck.

You have to admit, as cheesy as they were, old videogame shows from the 80s and 90s were way cool. It’s a shame that today gaming is much too “sophisticated” for stuff like that (unless you live in Japan, where you have the awesome Game Center CX). One such show from the 90s that I was unaware of is the UK show Gamesmaster, where kids faced challenges in various games from the eponymous “Gamesmaster” to win a golden joystick trophy.

Reader Viper has alerted us to this video from an episode where a kid must clear “the satanic Heat Man stage” in under three minutes without dying. Can he make it? Well, you should watch the video to find out! Though it is probably a bad sign that the challenger is not a big fan of Mega Man. Also, if you’re wondering why it seems a little slow, Viper informs me this is due to PAL conversions for NES games at the time.

Everything about this video is corny but fun. I love the setup. I love the host’s reactions to little enemies like the Springers. I love the audience cheering. This is not a TV show about gaming being awesome. It’s a show about gamers being awesome.

Thanks Viper!
