Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter Stretch Goal Update: Consoles Being Prioritized

mno9banner The Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter has reached a new stretch goal at $1,500,000, which means that New Game Plus and Turbo Mode are now a go. But that's not the only news to come from reaching this milestone.

The fans have made their pleas heard loud and clear, and as a result, the entire stretch goal arrangement has been reorganized. $1,750,000 is the new goal for the making-of documentary, and $2,200,000 is now the new goal for bringing Mighty No. 9 to consoles, with the mystery stretch goals being pushed back. "We realized the other stretch goals we had planned would be more welcome after this overriding priority, where they wouldn’t pale so much in comparison," the team stated in their latest update.

Keiji Inafune Delivers a Special Message About Funding of Mighty No. 9

Now that Mighty No. 9 has been funded, Project Lead Keiji Inafune of Comcept has made a quick video to thank everyone for helping reach the initial goal within 40 hours:

Since making the video, the Kickstarter has gone on to reach its first stretch goal as well, which the Mighty No. 9 addresses at further length here while highlighting a piece of fan art from Kevin Bolk in the process.

Additionally, they offer a few words regarding this success and what it means for their former colleagues in other companies, which we've highlighted for you below.

One of the things we’re most proud of is the overwhelmingly positive vibe we all share in this mission. There are no losers in our success here, and no bad guys to rail against. We all know that none of the amazing stories and fond memories you've all been sharing would've ever been possible without the games that came before us, the developers who created them, and the companies who promoted and sold and spread them throughout the world. Yes, we are aiming to revive and reinvent this genre, but we do so with the deepest humility and all due respect to those who came before us, or in many cases worked alongside us -- our ex-coworkers and ex-employers, for example; whatever success we achieve here is ultimately a validation of their efforts. So we salute them -- as we do all of you -- Beck-style, with two fingers! (`_´)ゞ

Beyond this, the team says to look for a "Communi-Tuesday" update later today that will highlight some "amazing" fan art, an FAQ update based on common questions from fans, and some new reward tier ideas based on early feedback. So stay tuned for more!

Renegade Kid Makes Comcept an Offer to Bring Mighty No. 9 to Nintendo 3DS

The past few days have been a true whirlwind of events following Keiji Inafune's announcement of the Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter, which has not only reached but surpassed its $900,000 goal, sitting now at $1,174,553 as of this writing. With further stretch goals to reach and nearly a month left to do it in, we can only hope that it reaches the $2,500,000 necessary to bring it to consoles. That said, Jools Watsham of Renegade Kid reached out to Comcept with an interesting offer in the following tweet:

So for those who would rather not be confined to the PC in order to play the game, there may be another option yet, should Comcept for some reason not reach that final stretch.

The Dream is Real: Mighty No. 9 is Funded (Update)

mno9funded Keiji Inafune came to PAX and presented a request to fans: to help support his new game that would carry on the spirit of Mega Man. And the fans responded. With over 15,000 backers, and in just over 39 hours, Comcept's Kickstarter campaign for Mighty No. 9 is officially funded. The game is going to happen, and the supporters made sure it happened fast.

Of course, there is still a long road ahead. While it's fantastic the project is a go, the game can continue to get better with more funding. It may be a big stretch, even in spite of the rapid funding Mighty No. 9 received, but I'd really love to see this title grace consoles. There's still plenty of time to reach that 2.5 million mark, so keep spreading the word and rallying support!

A very big thanks to everyone giving their support! Keep it up!

Update: The Kickstarter has now surpassed one million dollars. That doesn't get us anything new, but it's a nice, round number to quote until it reaches $1,200,000, the first stretch goal.
