Ariga's Rockman Megamix for RM9 - translated, Warning, a fair amount of big images Options

Since I felt other people would be interested in it, and I certainly was myself, I did a reasonable translation of the special Rockman Megamix comic that came with the Rockman 9 arranged soundtrack. I say reasonable because I didn't put so much effort in looking up everything grammatically in Japanese, and I'm by no means an expert on the language. But it was still fun to do, and it gives Mega Man's 9 story a more serious tone that I think some would appreciate. If you want to critique my translation then do so by all means, just have something to back it up.

Update: My friend Sketch was nice enough to incorporate the translation into the images, so it's probably a bit easier to read now. Still, I'd love to make a "final" version by going over it with someone who has more experience translating manga.

This is awesome! I've never really had a chance to enjoy these comics in English form, but this is fantastic. As Helldragon said - cameos, awesome designs, character development - it's all there and it's all fantastic. It also gives a lot more depth to the story and lets you really understand the gravity of the situation - almost brought a tear to my eye.

I still haven't beaten nine, but I hope things get better for the bots in the end. :) (Yes, I've been avoiding spoilers >_<)

Ariga's done an excellent job, for sure. RM1 Robot Masters taking a stand, awesome. I love the exploration into Light's thoughts about the robotic laws, too. I never did buy Light letting his robots get scrapped, and MM9's ending seems to support this, in an almost passive aggressive way. Delving into his thoughts beforehand was outstanding. It is somewhat contradictory to the in-game events, though, with Light being taken into custody before Rock suits up. But I think the extra heart it provided to the story was more than worth that small concession. Nice to see Cossack again, too.

Anyone notice what's written on each of the MM9 robot masters? It looks like "DR-*something*"

The only ones I can clearly read are "DR-JL" on Diamond Man and "DR-SP" on Splash Woman.

why did he do that weird DRN:[insert two letters from the RM name]
instead of actual numbers?

Just while it was on my mind about the abbreviations, this isn't the only set of Robot Masters Ariga has done that for. (You can see the other RM9 RM's lettering if you squint, like CN on Concrete's shoulder. The Magma Man pic on Ariga's site clearly shows the MG on his left shoulder. Hornet's looks like it'd be on his upper right shoulder hive. And Plug's appears to be on his upper left chest.)

Of course we know the original 6, plus Rightott and Eddie always have the scarlet letter R engraved on them. As far as I remember seeing, Cossack and Mr. X's are free of any type of lettering or insignias. The bots Wily created on his own (2 and 5) have one or more W on them.

But the Wily/Right RMs from Rockman 3 not only have W's plastered on them, but also those two letter abbreviations. Gemini has a GE on his non-buster arm. Mags has the MA on his "ears." Needle, Top and Spark all have the abbreviations on their chests (as does Shadow Man I assume, only his is NOT written in modern English lettering). Hard has an HA on his leg, while Snake has two SN's on his shoulder armor (there's even an error on one page where Ariga's got an SP on one shoulder instead.)

So this kind of marking is really no big deal and is actually consistent with things he has done in the past. Probably due to the fact that they are Right robots, but have been altered by Wily. That's my guess at least. He never puts their numbers on their bodies.

Also, R. Dorothy, quit playing Splashy dress up. You're such a louse, Albert Wily.
