While I basically agree with everything you said, I do have to mention that I think you haven't used the weapons *as* much or as well as others have, to see where they can really shine.

Most notably the Chill Spike, which over time has convinced many people that it's the best weapon in the game. Not even for its spike properties, either, but the freezing from the goo. Unlike Concrete Shot, the immobilization lasts an extremely long time, which basically neuters whatever enemy is hit with it. Myself, I like it most for the large stomping enemies, as hard mode tends to put them in places very annoying to deal with. Otherwise, I like placing a bed of spikes beneath enemies that rush to the floor or in front of you quickly, such as the axes and spiders.

The Water Shield is a pretty meh defensive weapon but arguably the best offensive weapon in the game, simply because one use provides the equivalent of 16 buster shots. Murders minibosses and is particularly good for the Keeper and Tricastle. You didn't point out its main strength, so I'm guessing you didn't use it for this.

That said, I think the weapon set is unquestionably worse than MM9 and is still a little disappointing in that regard.

As for the music, I'm of the opinion that by the soundtrack growing on you overall, you come to enjoy the fact that each track sounds so different. And anyone that listened to the leaked tracks for the DLC was treated to an incredibly catchy, delightfully nostalgic surprise, which in my opinion raised my opinion of the soundtrack overall.

While I'm very happy with the game, I'm withholding my "final" judgment until all the DLC has been released. I have high hopes.

Pretty interesting and spot-on review. Thanks!

One problem that really hits me with Mega Man 10 is that Protoman abilities are essentially swapped with those of Megaman. I mean, wasn't it Rock that recieved all those fancy upgrades Dr. Light devised (Mega Buster, slide) while Protoman was on a constant run? I understand Inti trying to give Mega Man 2 expirience here, but why not move said expirience to Protoman altogether and leave Megaman upgraded like he should have been? Oh right, shield and double damage. Still....... Kind of nonsensical.

@Grammer Gestapo: Perhaps sir, PERHAPS. Of course I find your choice of name most curious, as "grammar" is the structural rules that govern word order, while the issues you point out are those of spelling! I hereby decree you change your name to Spelling Spaz. Also thanks.

You hit the nail on the head (I need to stop using cliches...) regarding why I loved 10 so much more than 9, and why I didn't really care for 9. 10's one of my favorites in the series - just behind 3 as my favorite Classic series game.

Good review. I thought the game was great and you are right, the music grows on you the more you play the game. All of the boss themes are great especially the Wily Machine boss theme!

Good review. I found MM10 much more accessible than MM9 due to less emphasis on "now master THIS type of gimmick platform!!...!!!" and more emphasis on fun stage design. That's not to say it was easier per se-- just a heck of a lot more enjoyable. I guess the review is right on when it says 10 isn't trying to emulate any of the past games as 9 did; it's more of an amalgamation of what made Mega Man fun over the years. :)

Hah, this also brings up another interesting question: Isn't Mega Man solar-powered as well? So... Solarman shouldn't logically work against Mega, but instead power him up!

Hey, someone do this.
