Beginning at 7:30pm EST on Friday, August 16th, Silver Hunter and a group of other Mega Man Battle Network fans are planning a speedrunning marathon of the series in order to raise $1,000 for the charity Doctors Without Borders. In addition to the six core games in the series, Silver's group will also be taking on such titles as Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge, Rockman.EXE WS, and even the fan game "Mega Man Battle Network: Chrono X." Additional runs to be performed for $500 raised towards them include a New Game + run of Mega Man Battle Network 2, a Buster-only run of the first game, Rockman.EXE N1 Battle, and a "blind race" of Mega Man Network Transmission. You can find more details about these runs here.
Finally, you can tune in for the marathon here, where they will soon be posting the account for people to donate to and a tracker.
This weekend is the second annual Megamanathon to raise money for Child's Play. On July 20th, Adam Strickland will be at "The Last Gamestore" in Halifax as he attempts to muscle his way through all ten numbered Mega Man Classic games and bring in enough money to reach-- or surpass-- their $1,500 (Canadian) goal.
As you can see in the video above, there will be several raffle prizes available to those who purchase tickets (one for $2, or three for $5), including figures, comics, and perhaps best of all, an honest-to-goodness Mega Man quilt! Be sure to check out their website and/or their Facebook page for more details.
Yacht Club Games, developer of the upcoming Shovel Knight (featuring original Mega Man composer Manami Matsumae) are going to be partaking in their annual tradition of playing through as many Mega Man games as they can, "in an effort to remind us of what great gameplay is all about." This year, however, they're opening up their yearly ritual to everyone else in an event they call "Mega May."
We’ll be streaming Mega Man on twitch.tv, reminiscing about Mega Man moments, etc. We may even have some special guests or other surprises in store! Here’s the schedule. First episode is tonight!! And if you miss your favorite game, don’t worry. We’re going to be taking requests after we finish the planned games each day. All times are PST, so east-coasters be aware!
You'll find the full schedule at right (click to enlarge), and as of this writing, the first one is scheduled to go live in about 45 minutes (sorry for the last minute posting; the news came while we were out). You can tune in and watch for yourself as they take on the original Wily Wars trilogy by clicking here.
Thanks for the tip, Gandkaidos!

Thanks to Victor, we just received word that the folks at MegaMarathon are holding... well, a MegaMarathon. They began on December 8th and have been working through both Classic and X series games in alternating order (Mega Man, Mega Man X, Mega Man 2, Mega Man X2, etc.), and as of this writing, they are now at Mega Man X6. The point, of course, is to help raise money for charity; in this case, Child's Play. As of this writing, they are 18 percent of the way there, and as is often the case for marathons such as this, those who donate are eligible for prizes. So head on over to the page, check out their progress, and dig deep to give this holiday season!
This Saturday, September 22nd will see Tom, Kevin, and Brian from Jetsville hold a Mega Man marathon called "Robots Love Animals" in a bid to raise money for the World Wildlife Fund. Starting at 10am, the group will be tackling all of the numbered Classic series games and Rockman & Forte, which they expect to "plow through." From there, it's on to Mega Man X, which will start with the first game and carry on through the sixth (or possibly eighth). Following that, their aim is to take out the four Mega Man Zero games. You can check out their planned schedule (to be updated throughout the run), complete with the first boss they intend to take out in each game and other statistics, right here.
As for the event itself, you can both watch and donate here.
For the next 48 hours, the MX3 Team will be doing what everyone loves: playing Mega Man. But what's more, they're doing it for charity! So give 'em a look, and donate some cash if you're feeling generous. It all goes to support the Child's Play organization.
Mega Man, plus donating to a good cause? What could be better?
The music you hear in the video is from The Megas' new album, History Repeating Blue, which they will be giving away throughout the duration of the marathon to those who donate any amount, as well as those who spread word of their endeavor (mx3team.com) on Twitter with the hashtag #MX3Team or "Like" them on Facebook. "The more you promote us the better chance it is for you to win."
For further updates, you can follow them on Twitter @megamarathonman, and if you would like to donate before the marathon begins, you can do so using the ChipIn widget on their webpage and even get your name in lights.
As we mentioned earlier, OtaRockman is this weekend, but if you're unable to go, that doesn't mean you won't be able to get your fill of Blue Bomber goodness. In fact, you'll probably be able to get even more, and can help a good cause in the process! On Sunday, July 29th, the Megamanathon will be held from 11am until 10pm as Adam Strickland will go through all ten main Mega Man Classic games to raise money for IWK Child's Play wishlist, "where we will buy games that all of the sick children want while they spend the time in the hospital!"
There will also be raffle tickets sold for prizes at a rate of one ticket for $2 or three for $5. Prizes include a Mega Man t-shirt from Sharkrobot.com and a copy of the Mega Man Robot Master Field Guide from UDON Entertainment.
You can find out more info by joining the Megamanathon event page on Facebook.
Throughout the event, viewers will not only be encouraged to donate via the ChipIn widget on their home page, but also have various opportunities to win some prizes. So be sure to tune in and check it out tomorrow night!
