Gamers React to Mega Man in Smash Bros. Live

Won't lie. My reaction to Mega Man in Super Smash Bros. was pretty subdued. I had to watch it when I got up in the morning for work, hours after the announcement was made. In fact I chose to go to bed 20 minutes before the Nintendo Direct, because I had a lot to do the following day. It was all for your benefit.

Nevertheless, I've been growing more excited with each day since. And I've also taken up looking for videos of other folks reacting to the announcement live. I feel like I can enjoy their excitement vicariously when I watch.

Check out some more videos after the break. I will warn, some contain a bit of NSFW language. You might also want to be cautious about your volume.

Jump to 4:30.

Jump to 40:30.

Definitely the most NSFW.

Not a live reaction, but still shell shocked.

Jump to 2:00.

Jump to 2:10. Also watch until the end, because what the guy says is hilariously priceless.

I imagine a lot of your reactions were pretty similar! However, seeing some of these videos I have to say - if you plan on posting yourself on the internet, you may want to think about cleaning up a little!

Another Fan-Made Tribute Album to Check Out

When it comes to Mega Man, top notch music is one thing many think of. And that music continues to be arranged by loving fans. In that tradition, here's another 25th anniversary celebratory album, "Rockman Forever," by doujin music label Prismatic Music.

The album consists of a handful of tunes from Mega Man, Mega Man X and Mega Man Battle Network. The overall style is electronica and trance, so it might not gel with you strongly if you're into more orthodox arrangements. But if you like something with a deep sound and strong beat, this is for you! And the best part is, it's totally free!

Support Mega Man in Smash Bros. via Fan Poll

I've been a little reluctant on this news, but we've received a number of tips about it, so we'll let you decide. Gaming fan site VG Tribune has been running a poll about third party characters fans would want to see in the next incarnation of Super Smash Bros. Currently Mega Man is in second place, behind The Legend of Zelda's Skull Kid. It's not much time, but you still have until tomorrow night to show your support. Personally, I'm a little skeptical about the effectiveness of this poll. VG Tribune promises to bring the results directly to Masahiro Sakurai, but I see no details about how that will be conducted or its apparent likelihood of success. Of course, there's really nothing to lose in giving support, just so long as you keep your hopes realistic. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Mega Man in Smash Bros. as much as the next guy!

Thanks to all who tipped us off about this one!

A Sample of the 5 Islands Adventure Dubbing

Here is a sample of the Get Me Off The Moon team's translation efforts for the mobile game Rockman DASH: The Great Five Islands Adventure (or its many other localized names). It now appears to have stepped up from a simple subtitle project to an actual dubbing! Color me very impressed.

Have to admit, in some regards I got closure with Legends 3's cancellation (at least in terms of cause), but hearing fans provide the voices, and extremely well too, does bring me to wondering what could have been. I can't help but feel a little regretful for it. Nevertheless, I hope the GMOTM crew keeps up the great work!

You can find more direct footage from Five islands Adventure on the Rockman DASH 3 Revival Project Blog.

Thanks to Amunshen for the tip!

Mega Man Tribute Reminder and Tease

Just a reminder, the deadline for submitting artwork to be evaluated for inclusion in UDON's Mega Man Tribute is January 31st at 1:00PM EST. That's just another week. If you haven't started yet, then you're looking at quite a bit of crunch time this week! Be diligent, because there are a number of requirements and conditions for your piece to be eligible. All of the details are at UDON's Mega Man Tribute website. And as a fun treat, the image here is a teaser from UDON's own Jeffrey "CHAMBA" Cruise for his piece in the Tribute book. Mega Man sure is looking pretty tense there! Makes me wonder what the completed piece will be like.

Anyway, hurry and finish up your pieces! Let's make this UDON's best Tribute book yet!

Legends 3 Developer Room is Gearing Up

Capcom has opened developer rooms for Mega Man Legends 3 on both the Japan side and the US side as a means of getting the fans involved with the game's development. So far things have been fairly plodding, with preparations getting in place, but activity will be heating up in the coming month. That's when the dev room will fully open, allowing fans to interact with the developers as co-developers.

In the meantime, Capcom Unity is asking questions from both fans and non-fans to gain perspective about the feelings towards the Legends series:

1) Legends fans, what is it that you liked most about Legends? And how would you like to participate in the development of Legends 3 going forward?

You may have already submitted similar comments earlier, but please let us hear them again for the record.

2) Those of you who have never played Mega Man Legends, what exactly was it that brought you here? And what expectations do you have of the Legends 3 project?

Please let us hear from you even if what you say isn't exactly an answer to these questions.

Please leave your comments in this forum thread. When leaving a comment, please indicate which group you belong to (1) or (2).

So far group (2) has been quite underrepresented, and we would like to have everyone's participation so that we can make this a truly interactive game development project.

It sounds like Capcom plans on reaching out to just fans, who are of course hotly anticipating this title, but looking for ways to make the game appeal to prospective newcomers as well. To that end, you should definitely head over to Capcom Unity and give your insight!

Waiting for Legends 3: A Tribute

Ok I'm taking a risk here. I'm posting this video without really having watched any of it yet, because I CANNOT watch more than a few seconds without completely cracking up. I apologize, Dashe, I know I'm a horrible person. However, I've been assured that the video is entirely clean. And really, when fans go to these lengths to create something like this, you just know the game is hotly anticipated. I know the rest of you have been creating your own Legends 3 themed musicals at your computers. Start recording them!

Thanks, Cleveland Rock!

Fan-Made Mega Man 9 HD Remix

For those out there who bemoan the 8-bit retro chic look of Mega Man 9 and 10, I'd just like to point this out to you: it could be worse. Of course I don't mean to disparage the work of Eric Ruth, the man behind this fan-made HD remake of Mega Man 9, and also known for doing an 8-bit rendition of Left 4 Dead (I'm starting to see a theme here). Having watched the video, I can attest this is a pretty skillfully made recreation of Galaxy Man's stage.

Eric is not planning on finishing this project, having concern about legal repercussions from Capcom. I don't see too much of an issue, although I think Mega Man 9 is pretty much fine the way it is. But I know there are those who want it in HD regardless. Of course to be truly HD, it'd need a lot more cut scenes.

Announcing a TMMN music project: BN Remix!

exemusicWe've had this in the planning stages for a couple of months now, but we can finally let the cat out of the bag. In honor of Operate Shooting Star, some of us at TMMN are putting together a special arranged album of the original MegaMan Battle Network called BN Remix, and the project homepage is now online. We already have a few samples available! Right now we're aiming to have the album released in the summer of 2010 to coincide with the North American release of Operate Shooting Star. Aside from the arranged music itself, we will be creating a digital CD booklet, and possibly some other features. Nothing is entirely set it stone at this point. But we definitely want to make sure the album is representative of the Battle Network fans' voice.

So we hope you'll enjoy the project, and keep up with updates as they occur (they probably won't all be posted via TMMN). We do intend to open site affiliation sometime soon, so keep your eyes peeled for updates. Thanks!
